Drarry HC
Okay, so, in my mind, the Malfoy boys weren’t taught how to express love, they were taught feelings were weaknesses, and Draco had to agree, because he was feeling things which prevented him from doing what he was asked, and he couldn’t talk about his feelings, because he had learned to bottle them up as much as possible, and keep everything to himself. And Harry expresses so much, even though he doesn’t realise it all the time.
In the beginning of their relationship, everybody who was “on Harry’s side” (as in who knew Harry and not Draco) only saw Harry being in love and thought Draco was just toying with Harry because he didn’t seem to reciprocate Harry’s feelings. It was Hermione who noticed the small things Draco did which showed his love, like how he spotted Harry first in the room, how he tensed when someone was close to either of them but relaxed when Harry was right next to him, how he always repared Harry’s glasses, always remembered where Harry had left this or that, small stuffs one wouldn’t notice if they weren’t paying close attention. And it was Hermione who then prevented Ron and the others to confront Malfoy, because yes, he loved Harry, he was just not good with expressing his feelings, and besides, Harry was happy, “leave Draco alone Ron, please, or it’ll be 4th year all over again”.
Except Draco cannot bring himself to say the words, and he sees how much everyone expresses their feelings, while he doesn’t, and he doesn’t get how Harry is fine with this. So he just feels terrible. And Harry gets worried, because he sees his boyfriend isn’t well, but he doesn’t get why. And Draco doesn’t explain, he can’t, he’s terrible at this.
After a while, Harry understands, thanks to Hermione, who had noticed the way Draco looked at other couples before looking down, and Ron because he was still pissed that Malfoy didn’t really show his love, and so Harry goes to his boyfriend how he doesn’t care, it’s okay if he can’t say how he feels, and it’s okay if they’re not acting like the other couples, because the only thing that matters is how much they love each other, and Draco cries because he can’t say it back, but Harry understood, and that makes him feel better.
Draco may not express his feelings with words, but he’s great with actions. So he plans their anniversaries, he makes sure Valentine’s day’s dates are great. And Harry tries too, yeah? They’re cute. But that’s not during one of these amazing date that Draco says it either, because he can show, and it’s easier.
One day, Draco is working on some files/paper/whatever at his desk, and he decides to take a break. So he goes downstairs, to the kitchen where Harry is. They’ve been together for quite a while now, they moved in together, and Harry had decided that maybe he’d like cooking if it was for someone he loved, so he asked Molly and it was now a usual thing for him to do, cooking. And Draco stands here, leaning against the frame of the door, watching Harry cook, and he suddenly blurts it out.
And Harry freezes. Draco too, because he doesn’t know what to do. Harry is now tensed, back turned to him, and Draco is so scared, and all his insecurities come back. So he mumbles apologies, because all he can think is that he might’ve upset Harry, and he had been taught not to express his feelings, he lost control, that’s not what he does, wtf. And Harry turns to him slowly.
So Draco freezes again, but repeat it.
And Harry’s face lit up, he has the biggest grin ever and his eyes seem ready to tear up, and he throws himself to Draco and holds him close, as close as he can, because he’s so proud, so happy, and definitely so in love. And Draco is confused at first, but melts, because what the hell, he just poured his heart out to this man, maybe loosing control isn’t so bad, maybe letting the mask down isn’t so bad, maybe he can forget his education here, right now. So he hugs Harry and starts crying, because that feels good, he’s him. And they both whisper small love declarations, how much they love each other, silly sappy nicknames for a while, just standing in the doorframe of the kitchen. Just the two of them.
Yes, the dinner was left a little too long and slightly burned, but it still tasted good, and none of them could hold the smiles. And from that day forward, nobody could ever doubt Draco Malfoy loved Harry Potter, because if Harry was here, Draco could put down the barriers a little.
