The best characters are worshipped by half the fandom, with intricate, in character fanons that explore their depth, and countless fics written all about them, while simultaneously being hated by the other half of the fandom like they regularly kick puppies and you are the devil for liking them 💜

The one thing in fandom that frustrates me is fandom no longer using separate ship names for who top and bottom in ships.

"They're the same ship!" Yes, they do contain the same characters and most of the time (dependent on the creator) the only thing that has changed is their positions in bed but when I'm looking for nsfw stuff, THAT IS IMPORTANT.

I have preferences! Sue me! So yes, it's frustrating that fandom has made it harder for me to find my preferences because fandom thinks to stick everything under the same label and make finding things a nightmare.

I wish fandom would stop viewing multiple ship names as bad and go back to viewing them as an organizational tool that will get your work to the audience it intends.

Call me old fashioned but I miss it.

Marinating a bit with ship names specifically, in some cases, especially when I don't actively ship them, I use the name I think sounds better

AO3 is obviously superior since you can specify the situation in the tags. But elsewhere it's so annoying to see KaiShin and it turns out to be ShinKai. I also have my preferences. And words mean things.

But that's a general thing nowadays, that nothing really has a specific meaning anymore, everything is the same, everything is just The App™

For smaller ship fandoms you have to use the same name if you want to see content sadly T-T Going into the seran tag can be depressing at times when half the content is just your own shitposts you made about the pairing XD

Heikazu/Kazuhei also has the issue that a quite popular ship for another fandom shares the name so I think that's why the fandom tries to use Heizuha but the former names are nice sounding.

For Kaishin though, having a separate ship name would be good as I know that top Kaito is quite a bit more popular which makes it hard for those who like top Shinichi/bottom Kaito have trouble finding the content they want. It's one of the most popular ships too so you wouldn't have an issue with it going under the radar like smaller ships.

I agree that's why AO3 is superior just because it has the switch/bottom/top tags and I can just pick which ones I want to see. Though the dcmk fandom doesn't need to be as shy about using them XD

it sucks because most of the good fandom artists are on twitter but none of the fandom opinions there are good. overall the opinions on tumblr may not necessarily be 'better' but they're certainly more diverse and i would take an opinion that completely blindsides me over the identical Fandom Consensus any day. but not nearly enough people post their art here which is insane to me because objectively tumblr's layout and features are the best of any contemporary social media site for posting art archivally

The proship label says nothing about what content a person consumes.

Proship means you have a "ship and let ship" mentality. The "pro" in proship doesn't stand for "problematic."

"Proship means you ship adult x minor." No it doesn't. Proship means you won't harass or belittle someone who does. Proshippers don't assume the moral values of another person based on fanfiction.

There are Proshippers who are uncomfortable with age gap ships, there are Proshippers who are uncomfortable with shipcest, etc. There isn't a human being on the planet who isn't squicked out by some topics and Proshippers aren't a monolith.

I've seen antishippers unironically say and agree with eachother on the following opinions: being a proshipper means people should be allowed to bully you. proshippers make them believe in eugenics. proshippers all belong in jail. being a proshipper means people can send you death and rape threats because "you deserve it". being a proshipper should be basis for taking away someone's human rights or at least put them on a watchlist.

I'm not a proshipper because i care too much about fictional ships, I'm a proshipper because antishippers sent my friends threats for liking certain ships. I'm a proshipper because i believe i shouldn't have my human rights taken away or be bullied or in jail just for liking a fucking ship. If you believe ship discourse is stupid and immature, then you probably believe people shouldn't be thrown in jail for it.

Also, antishippers are vile, man. And their bullying has real life consequences even aside from the bullying. There was this post about kids literally being groomed by them, into thinking their parents' small (<5) age gape is ~problematic~, and to distance themselves from their parents and only talk to the "good and moral" people online

So no, it's not just "silly fandom discourse".
