when I grow up, I want to be an abomination unto nugan
You guys I’m on my last Discworld book (and THE last Discworld book) and I am not ok, both with the content and the fact that I’m almost done 2+ years later. Just gonna weep my way right through it.

I identify so much with Nanny. I’d like to think I’m Granny Weatherwax when I need to be though.
I can’t choose between these two, I just can’t. They’re the only two Discworld books that I reread as soon as I finished them.
I think I started The Colour of Magic many, many years ago and couldn’t get into it and then read Small Gods a few years ago and was instantly IN on Discworld. I’ve since gone back to the beginning and enjoyed the Rincewind books and I think I only have eight books left before I’m finished. And then I’ll start again. 😉
Really, though - start anywhere. If one book doesn’t sing to you try another one. There’s something for everyone. Happy Terry Pratchett Day!!
I made a silly little generator to assign you a faculty position at Unseen University!
I've been getting into the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett lately, and the wizard university is very silly. Feel free to roll again if you don't like the one it gives you, and please, put any especially funny combinations in the tags so I can read them!
Dean of Controversial Mythology
The older I get, and the more on fire the world seems to be the more I feel comforted and SEEN by Sir Terry Pratchett and Discworld.
Not because all the books are inherently comfortable so much as because they feel like someone taking you by the hand and saying; “I know. I’m just as angry about this bullshit. But we can hold hands. But the sun still rises. But hope is still important. Hope wears steel toed boots and smiles with pink and bloody teeth and will make you laugh and will make you cry. It’s not okay. But we’re in the shit together, and some day it’s gonna be less shit.”
This got away from me.
What I’m saying is, I’ve got a shovel.
This year has been hard, and I would’ve gotten through it without Discworld but I’m so grateful I haven’t had to. It’s been the warm, fuzzy blanket I can pull over my head to keep the monsters away. I mean, there are monsters under here with me but Vimes and Death and Susan and Granny and the rest are under here with me too.
Its a Nac Mac Smeagol (I am so sorry).
This made me snort laugh 😁
Just jumping on right quick to say that I have a very painful bruise on my foot because I dropped a book on it the other night because my hands were full and my cats were rubbing against my legs like “hey, the bowl is half empty, are you planning to do anything about that right now or…” and the book I’m reading is Thud! by Terry Pratchett and I almost dropped all my shit again because I was laughing about dropping Thud on my foot and how absolutely ridiculous that is.
Anyway, my foot hurts.
Outside of Discworld, do you have a favourite book?
Oooh, so many but my knee jerk reaction was to say The Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden, all three books (The Bear and the Nightingale, The Girl in the Tower, and The Winter of the Witch) are amazing, I think about them a LOT. What about you?
House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski
It’s good!
Ahh, I read that one, it creeped me out in the BEST way!
His Sister’s Companion piece, a concept album is amazing too.
Haunted - Poe.
Amazing.
10/10.
I’ll have to add that to my reading list!
Listening actually.
Ha, reading comprehension, I has it. 😂 (Listening is even better, I can do that while I knit!)
