Is the passing of the #GOP #TrumpCare bill in the House of Representatives reason to rejoice?
If you make $200,000 or more, are not on Medicaid, never get sick, then maybe so. For those on Medicaid or Medicare, it means $900 billion in cuts, approximately 25% cuts in Medicare benefits, no healthcare coverage at all for the already ill, elderly and poor, and increased costs and less coverage for those in the lower and middle income brackets who will have healthcare. Those people make up the biggest core of Trump supporters. Oh well, you have to make some sacrifices to Make America Great Again, right? #MAGA
But, the celebration is pre-mature. The real celebration for House Republicans is because they were able to pass this hot potato off to the Senate. Trump of course thinks he got a win, but he also just had to reassure himself that he was prezident.
The House Bill still has to go to the Senate, and it will not be passed by the Senate in its current form, that is almost guaranteed. The Senate will either submit their own plan, make changes to this one, and then it must go to a Committee and then back to the House. This could be a long game of volley before it ever gets to Trump’s desk where he can draw mountains on it.
The real victory is that we now have a solid list of House Republicans to throw out of Congress for daring to use their constituents as sacrificial lambs to get big tax cuts for the already wealthy. You can find the list here.
With Trump’s pushing of this plan, strong arming and threatening House GOP members to get it passed, and his celebration of it, it is clear he really does not give a fat rat’s ass about the poor, elderly, working families and the sick whom are the biggest part of his voter base. He betrayed them, plain and simple, and so did their Republican Representatives.
