Stop pressuring black boys into play basketball or football as if it’s their only choice in life or as if it’s the only reassurance of their masculinity and manhood. Just because society has stereotyped black men as more physically capable and mentally inept does not mean that black boys have to be constantly shoved into sports because it seems like the only doorway to success. It’s not. Black boys can be into instruments, black boys can be into creating video games, black boys can be into cinematography, black boys can be into writing, black boys can be into science, they can be into anything they want. That being said, there’s nothing wrong with them being into sports either. Yes, basketball and football are a whole lot of fun, but help them spread their wings by making them play other sports tennis, hockey, or even swimming! They just might find something they truly love more instead of something that just might get them by.
