i want better female characters in bsd

like i just started thinking about it, but lucy was entirely stripped of her entire personality and now everything about her just includes atsushi. higuchi really only appears when akutagawa does, and naomi is just highkey creepy with tanizaki. kyouka is also very linked to atsushi (perhaps for an understandable reason, but still) and akutagawa.

the only female character i decently like is yosano. sure, she met a guy (who was fairly older than her) when she was younger, and then she met ranpo, but i don't see them romantically linked to her. in the manga, yosano gives a good entrance and she isn't sexualized. she's a well-written character with a mature personality and a sadistic side that reflects her ability. i think that's what makes her interesting. other female characters that i don't see as bad as the ones mentioned before are agatha and kouyou.

i appreciate that bungo stray dogs don't build their female characters upon fan service and they don't sexualize them (at least in the manga). but a good majority of them are bland and their personalities all just revolve around a man.

i finished the beast manga yesterday and i genuinely sobbed like dazai is ok with oda hating him in this world because he knows oda is dead in the actual manga?? and akutagawa and kenji's relationship is so adorable oml i loved the ending so much even though i was crying (dazai finally achieved his dream of committing 😭)
