I Have a method which keeps me in check in terms of volume, proportion and line.

First I sketch the gesture, proportion and volume - this process takes about 20-30 minutes depending on how locked in I am and if I have enough references for the poses.

2. Then I add the details I want - the anatomy/volume underneath is what's there to keep my details in check. Again, if you can do it by heart alone this is also fine, I think maybe even quicker. But again: Lots of references on the side.

3. Lastly, I do the inking/lining - this takes me an hour at most because I check for errors regardless, I go over any inconsistencies. It's never 1 to 1 regarding the sketch.
