Hello Clergy!!!! I've been reading your blog for a bit now and I absolutely love and onjey your National Geographic on ghouls. And I was wondering if there were more types ghouls in hell like:

○Light/Sun ghouls mostly live in the desert/Sahara plains of hell and they move in tribes like nomads, and they follow the

Sun as much as they can.

○Shadow/moon ghouls live in caves (their kinda like bats), they are nocturnal, they sleep through the day and come out at night to get with their lives, and they can not live without the moon in hell or on earth, (they have runes on their body that glow in the moonlight)

○Plant ghouls are a sub class of earth ghouls, they live in the jungle of hell, their much weaker then earth ghouls and most other too

(That's all I have, sorry if my English isn't good)

Awwwwwww, thank you so much!! ❤️❤️ I’m so happy you like my ghoul types!

I LOVE ALL OF THESE SO MUCH!! I love the idea of big, bat like ghouls!! ❤️ You should write more of these, I’d love to hear your ideas for other types! These are so cool!!

If you don’t mind my joining in with what I do for mine for these three types!: :)

-I actually have a plant based type of ghoul element, too! I do Earth ghouls in three categories; Normal/Plains type, Stone (rock and mountains), and Forest! Forest ghouls are your plant elemental types. They live in HUUUUGE trees, are typically very short, and are one of the biggest populations in Hell.

-Light elemental ghouls are actually a hybrid in my works! Sunshine is one of them! :) Sun/light ghouls are a mix of a fire element and air element. Air ghouls are both weather and air based, and when mixed with fire you can get really cool hybrids! Sometimes they manifest as lightning, and sometimes they manifest as pure light! Sunshine, for example, has powers that can be used to make beams of light!

-I think the closest I have to any type of ‘night’ or ‘moon’ ghoul are various Aether ghouls! Aether as an element embodies a LOT of different powers. Aether ghouls can have gifts in anything from manipulating shadows, to healing, to seeing the paths of the universe, and to even melding space itself! So many Aether ghouls are drawn to celestial bodies like the moon, and work very well at night! They particularly adore our Moon on Earth because it affords them more magic during certain phases.

Seriously, you should write more of yours!! They are so cool and I’d love to see it!! Thank you for sharing!! :)

Ghouls x reader who likes back/shoulder tickles(I think that’s a way to describe it?) They’re really relaxing

I wasn't quite sure what you meant, so I wrote for a couple of different sensation types. Hope this is what you're looking for! :)

Era V Ghouls With S/O Who Loves Gentle Shoulder Touches

When it comes to physical affection you've got the jack pot with the majority of ghouls! Physical touch is a regular and needed pack behavior when it comes to bonding. So ghouls ALWAYS love snuggling or grooming each other.

Cirrus: Prefers to give touches rather than receive them, so this works out for you both. She has a lovely way of mindlessly running her claws along your shoulders and spine- very gently tracing over each shape on your body. Most of the time she doesn't realize she's doing it. Is more likely to do so when you are around others, because it's her unconscious way of knowing she can protect you and claim you as HER partner.

Cumulus: Thinks it's adorable the way you always melt under her touch. She tends to especially tickle your shoulders and back when you are anxious or stressed out. It's her go to when you both cuddle and try to sleep. It works every time to get you to sleep!

Sunshine: They adore doing this for you! But... they also love getting the same shoulder scritches! So now you both have the best hug ritual when your in the mood for it. You and Sunshine will hold each other while facing, and then use both hands to tickle each others backs. It's some of the best cuddling you've ever had!

Swiss: Be careful what you wish for because he will actually try to tickle you! But he'll switch between trying to tickle you for real to get you laughing, or just doing the light scritches to relax you. Swiss is very big on touch, especially after a long day. So he's happy to go between soothing and playful. Whichever makes you happiest in the moment!

Mountain: Doesn't really use his finger tips or claws to caress your shoulders. He actually does this thing where he will gently ball up his fist and use his knuckles to slowly stroke around your back. It's soothing and like getting a massage when each of his knuckles find those spots under your shoulder blade and get all the tenseness out!

Aether: The king of any and all types of soothing physical touch! He knows EXACTLY how to move his hands over your back and shoulders for the best relaxation. Aether knows how to use his finger tips so it still tickles, but also gets the best pressure to not be too rough. His hands are magical and he has always put you to sleep tracing your back!

Rain: Another ghoul who absolutely wants the favor returned. Typically, you two will sit shoulder to shoulder while you hang out with the others. Each of you with an arm bent behind the other's back as you give each other shoulder rubs. You tend to like a more tickling sensation, and Rain prefers more of a scritching on his back.

Ember/Sodo: Unintentionally leaves more scratches than he means to. He constantly does the same thing a comfortable cat does- accidentally stick his claws out when he's just trying to make biscuits. It's very good when you have an itch at least! Ember is getting better at using less of his nails when he tries to tickle your shoulders the more he does it!

So, since ghouls can be summoned anywhere, what's the experience like for the ghoul themselves?

Because I always make myself laugh at the thought of a ghoul just lounging around in the Clergy, then suddenly they feel The Summoning™ and a void appears, sucks them in and spats them out in the middle of a corn field with some random cult LOL or is it more of a, "Hey guys, guess who's being summoned right now? 🤪✌🏼" and they have more control on if they want to fulfill the summoning or not?

LMAOOOOOOOOO!! I can't even begin to imagine how confused everyone would be!! Because I can also imagine it being one of the band ghouls and having to call Copia in the middle of no where.

"Please come get me, there's corn everywhere..."

But I'm always happy to talk about Ghoul Geographic!! <3

Ghouls During Summoning

~Typical Clergy Sanctioned Summons (there is an important distinction) are always scheduled and based on need. Summonings are difficult both for the summoners and the ghoul being brought to Earth. Lucifer will reach out to the acting Papa or Ministry if there needs to be a SPECIFIC powerful ghoul in Hell He wants brought up. And a sanctioned summon is a VERY different experience from a summon that isn't authorized or performed by amateurs.

~From Hell, a ghoul can always tell when they are being summoned. Days leading up to it (Hell time is MUCH different than Earth time) a ghoul will feel restless. Not able to shake off the feeling that change is on the wind. But when it finally happens and the magics start to pull them, the ghoul will immediately recognize it. The call of their Dark Lord for something greater. To most it's like the mixture of purpose and overwhelming fear that tugs at every fiber of their being from mind to soul, ready to pluck them from their lives in Hell. It's an unmistakable NEED to answer it.

~A ghoul ALWAYS has the choice to not answer the call of the Clergy, but it's rare that a chosen ghoul would be one who is unwilling. Lucifer tends to pick his willing servants. In most ghoul tribes it's considered an Honor to be strong or skilled enough to be needed. So most are happy to go, albeit many reluctantly. Ghouls who don't want to go can dissipate the summoning magic with their own element. Usually as just a reflex from the ghoul to protect themselves rather than necessary.

~Physically, the ghoul will be consumed by both Hellish energies AND their own element. Imagine sitting next to your friend and suddenly the wing picks up and winds around them. Then you see bursts of color and shimmer surround them followed by them catching on fire and then suddenly disappearing. That's pretty much what other ghouls see during a summoning.

~Many ghouls have described the actual travel as off putting and strange. Like being pulled around like taffy but without the pain. Well, until the ghoul reaches through the metaphysical barrier that connects Earth to Hell. Then it's described as being painful. Brief moments of every cell in your body being both on fire and frozen as you are restructured into a new physical being. It eventually passes and the ghoul has to feel the weight of their summoning circle and bizarre new creatures who babble at them.

~Many ghouls also report a bit of a shock after being summoned because Earth FEELS fundamentally different than Hell in so many ways. Many are cut off from the main source of their power, so feel like they are wearing kit gloves all the time. That, and gravity seems lighter here. Others find it equally overwhelming because their senses are almost SHARPER on Earth. So the noises and lights are suddenly intense all the time.

~Unfortunately, you do get outside cults who steal summoning magic (though rare), AND you can get ministry members who get too big for their britches and think they can summon a ghoul by themselves. This is incredibly dangerous for both the summoner AND the ghoul, which is why it's so forbidden and harshly punished. What's worse this either can result in an angry and possibly injured ghoul being summoned against their will... or a ghoul kit being summoned because the summoner is not strong enough for an adult. Again, VERY HARSH PUNISHENTS for this- even more so if you are a clergy member.

~It's possible for a ghoul to be summoned to a different part of the Earth, but incredibly unnecessary. But then again, humans can also be 'summoned' if they have the right ties or loyalties. A same plane summoning might be attempted if the ghoul is missing or thought to be captured- but that has it's own risks.

Do most ghouls pass on people who are scent marked by other ghouls or just ones they think they’re domanaint over? Like Reg Ghoul Scent Vs Band Ghoul Scent Vs Lead Ghoul Scent OR Ghoul Vs Dom Ghoul

Another National Geographic On Ghouls!! Love getting to expand on this tag!!

Ghouls and Scent Marking Humans

Scent has always been an incredible part of ghoul territory and sense! And naturally, everyone and thing has a particular scent they carry. Inevitably, when you spend time with a ghoul for any reason you WILL carry their scent even if you don’t know it!

That being said, there is a difference between carrying scent and being Marked. Like you asked, yes- if a particular human is scent MARKED other ghouls will leave them alone... for the most part.

Scent marking is done very intentionally on items, territories, rooms, human, and even other ghouls! So a human will have a ghoul who rubs up against their necks and other parts of the body to be ‘claimed.’ This is entirely done for a number of reasons.

1) Scent marked means that an item or person belongs to a ghoul pack and is, therefore, protected. So in Hell, that means if something should HAPPEN to this particular marked person or thing it means you will have angry ghouls who will retaliate should anything happen.

2) All families, packs, or tribes carry a scent and it’s a ghoul way to recognize safe members of their community or individuals who carry favor.

3) The scent on a human is definitely either a warning or a claim. A warning for other ghouls to stay away (for many reasons) OR the ghoul has claimed the human for companionship.

Most of the time, this scent will make other ghouls back off from said human. Especially if it smells like a higher ranked or more powerful ghouls. Others can perceive this as a challenge.

It’s very difficult for the human ministry of the clergy to really regulate and watch over when scenting happens- as humans can’t pick on the smells. But they try their best in order to keep in fighting from happening!

If two ghouls fancy one human, and the human is scent marked, a challenge CAN and sometimes WILL happen. A ghoul can be bold enough to fight another ghoul for their human companion. It’s a messy, territorial nightmare and one the Ministry is NOT fond of. So you will often hear warnings to ignore or stop nuzzling from ghouls when it occurs.

Have you described the ghoul's tails yet?Maybe era 3-4?

Ghoul anatomy is a favorite! <3  Threw in some extra ghouls too! :)

Era 3 + 4 Ghoul Tails!

Omega: A thick, darker skinned tail with a spade that has a V like barb shape on the bottom. Not terribly pointed but enough to have a distinct silhouette!  It’s actually very soft to touch but very strong.

Alpha: Common for many fire ghouls, a shorter tail that’s about a little more half his height. The spade is asymmetrical and has one barb that is hook like on the top that’s quite sharp on the edge. Only slightly thicker where it connects to his lower back.

Air: Long and incredibly prehensile, more than the average ghoul! Constantly able to coil like a snack and even trip people if he so wished. The end of the tail is barbed and wicked, with a few small spikes lining just under the tip.

Water: A more oceanic ghoul tail, as it’s thicker than a standard tail. It does taper off at the tip, that has a spade like a smaller shark tail fin. Has two extra fins at the base of his tail. The bottom of his tail is slightly paler than the rest of it.

Earth: It’s shorter than an average ghoul tail length, but it’s proportionate it to his height. As a plains earth ghoul he has a bit of fur and fluff on the end of his tail, right under the spade! His tail is thicker with a flatter spade at the tip.

Special: An almost serpent like tail that is pitch black, standing out against the grey of his flesh. It tends to curl like a cartoon and never stops moving. The spade at the end is almost comically cartoon shaped, but thin like the head of an old ink pen.

Cowbell: Unfortunately, does not has a cow like tail! Much to the disappoint of everyone who knows his nick name! The spade of his tail looks like an actual spade in a deck of cards, rounded on the sides and is sat on the end of a longer tail. It’s very average size, think of the girth of circumference of about three fingers.

Mist: Another oceanic ghoul like tail, but thinner than Water’s. Dark scales line where it connects to her lower back and on the small fin like spade at the end. The bottom is the same grey as her skin, but darker on top and spotted around where her scales end.

Ember: Short like a typical fire ghoul, but looks smaller due to being proportion to his height. Very dark at the spade but fades to his normal grey skin color at the base. Double hooked at the spade and actually very sharp. Tends to wag when he’s excited or up to mischief.

Aether: Shorter but super thick. Still manages to be pretty flexible, especially at the bottom of the spade. The same color as his skin but at the very tip of his spade it has a dark blush. His spade has soft sides and is very silky to touch!

Mountain: Very long and thick, but consistent size through out the entire length. Hurts if it accidentally ever hits you. The spade is slightly bigger than average but doesn’t have pointed sides- it has more of a smooth shape. His tail is darker than the rest of his skin.

Cumulus: Very long tail, longer than her height! Half way up her tail it starts to gradient into a black tip. Asymmetrical spade that’s bigger on the top, but both ends are rounded. Like Air’s tends to curl back towards her body into a loose spiral.

Cirrus: Also long but almost completely black until it hits her lower back. Has a barbed, sharp spade and a couple of spikes under it. Tends to lay straight and doesn’t move as much, so it can be hard to tell her mood based on it.

Rain: Very long tail with a fin like spade at the bottom- the tail is almost as long as he is. It has a line of scales on the top of it the same light blue color as the scales under his ears/gills. The base of his tail is thicker where it connects to his lower back and gets thinner as it goes to the tip.

Swiss: Actually long for a fire ghoul, thanks to his mixed elemental genes. Has a soft hooked spade like Alpha’s, but the edges are softer and not as pronounced. Extra prehensile and he often like to holds things with it. His favorite party trick is using his tail to open bottles.

Nameless Ghoul Headcanons - Leader Ghouls

(I wrote about this briefly once or twice, but I finally want to get it down and recorded!)

The Nameless Ghouls in the Clergy actually DO have a small handful of designated leaders. While not as established as the human ministry, there are named head ghouls.

The two we are most aware of are Omega and Alpha, aka- currently the head Aether and Fire ghouls, respectively. But there are actually four more titles that are lesser known to the public outside of the Ministry!

Originally, when the church was first formed and ghouls were summoned the human ministry realized ghouls needed their own ‘leaders.’ Aka, head elemental ghouls who had several responsibilities in the church. This ranged from being present with important summonings of stronger ghouls, keeping a semblance of balance amongst all the ghouls in different parts of the world, and even performing in the Ghost project.

Each element has its own representitive ghoul, who serves as the acting most powerful ghoul in the clergy for said element. They are each given their own title. So far the line up is-

The Omega Ghoul - Quintesscence

The Alpha Ghoul - Fire

The Delta Ghoul - Water

The Gamma Ghoul - Earth

The Beta Ghoul - Air

The current Omega and Alpha are who WE know as Omega and Alpha! so far they have been the only known Omega and Alpha ghouls for centuries! This is also why they have different “names” compared to other band ghouls.

Delta was actually the original bass ghoul for the Ghost project, but was quickly replaced due to his sour nature towards humans. He was better suited for his Ministry duties and was taken off to make way for a more agreeable ghoul.

Gamma was replaced because he was needed after Papa I retired. Gamma has been a long time assistant and confidant, who was actually in the middle of looking for a successor when he was taken off of the Ghost Project.

The ghoul we know as Air WAS the Beta ghoul before the Ghost project. As the oldest living ghoul in the clergy he was the most powerful. But after five centuries of service he asked to stand down to find different work. The clergy wasn’t willing to let him back to hell, but for one reason no one knows, allowed him to name a successor Beta ghoul. Air is content to just be known as ‘air’.

And finally, there is actually a SIXTH named ‘leader’ ghoul only known by a very select hand picked individuals.

The Sigma Ghoul - aka, the Ghoul who Holds all Together.

Only the Papas, Copia, Imperator, the current ghoul leaders, and a VERY VERY few select Clergy know who this is or what he does.

Special will never admit to it.

Do ghouls have their own eating/sleeping/common areas? If so, what do they look like?

Love love LOVE talking about Clergy life for ghouls!! Please enjoy! <3

Note: None of the pictures belong to me and were found Via Google!!

National Geographic on Ghouls - Abby Designated Areas

In short, yes! Ghouls have their own designated areas for all of these things! Even though a majority of the Abbys are inhabited by both human and ghoul, ghouls still need their own environment for their specific social and physical needs.

It would be easiest to break them down by category.

Eating Areas:

Most Clergy buildings have a standard cafeteria/mess Hall. Siblings AND Ghouls are allowed to dine in the main areas together. All standard meals are usually had at the same time, where everyone stops for the day to eat. And the cafeteria area is always open for those who missed chow time or just need a quick coffee break.

Ghouls are allowed to sit with siblings and vice versa for the most part- so long as there are no disruptions or fights. A few Cathedrals, run by stickler Arch Bishops and Cardinals, sometimes DO have table areas designated for species only sitting. But these modern times many leaders are happy to have mixed seating, and find seating by species VERY archaic and in poor taste! The only seating that IS divided would be the tables reserved for high ranking ghouls (and clergy) who have earned their place at the front.

Ghoul eating areas have two exceptions, however. The first is for newly summoned ghouls, and the second is for Ghoul kits. Ghoul kits are typically separated from standard ministry life until they are old enough to serve. These children stay with their den mother in their own areas in order to freely eat and grow.

Newly summoned ghouls have their own dining room where they are watched by more seasoned ghouls. This is to ensure two precautionary measures. New ghouls have to be shown they can eat and interact with humans and other ghouls without aggression. Even though ghouls aren’t uncivilized there can be a LOT of competition for food in Hell. It’s also a time ghouls are most vulnerable. Many that are summoned are also not used to dining with ghouls from different tribes or rival elements.

The other need to have them separated tends to come from needing to transition a ghoul from a Hell based diet to a human provided one. Fire ghouls, for example, tend to have a huge meat diet that is not sustainable for a single clergy. So the ghoul will slowly be given more and more human based dietary substitutes. There is also an old misconception that ghouls can get sick from eating too much processed human dishes right away. But that has been proven false ages ago, as ghoul stomach constitution is NOTHING like ours!

The standard cafeterias really depend on the funding of the individual building AND how much is stuck to tradition!  Many look like something out of an old movie- LONG wooden tables and bench like chairs. Some even look like typical new ball room dining areas, with clergy decoration and ornaments.

Sleeping Areas

The only ghouls who have their own private quarters are typically band ghouls or high ranking ghouls. This tends to be less favorable among many, as ghouls typically live in familial units rather than by themselves. It’s more comfortable being bunked with other ghouls than by oneself. Often times you will see at the very least two band ghouls share a large room for this very reason!

As for the rest of the ghoulish population; they, like Siblings of Sin, have designated dorms. This is especially important separation due to the fact that ghouls often have their own antics. Whether this is play, socializing, or just establishing smaller close knit units of other ghouls. Ghouls also tend to have a need to congregate with others of their element (and rarely) their tribe for some sense of stability. The only misfortune for many is having ghouls translate from big, shared nests to human beds. It’s common to go into a ghoul dorm and seeing all the bunk bed frames pushed aside in favor of stacking mattresses and pillows into the middle of the room.

Ghouls are allowed to spend the night in human dorms (so long as it’s not destructive), but it’s often frowned upon for a human to sleep in the ghoul wing. Not for any hatred or bias, but more so for safety. Ghouls are VERY strong compared to humans, and it’s easy for a human to be injured when in a gaggle of playful ghouls who just want to rough house!

Ghoul dorms look anywhere between military barracks to rooms like new siblings of sin. Depending on the ghoul population, this can be a large shared room or several wings of connected rooms!

Common Areas

Smaller, richer common areas for ghouls are normally reserved for high ranking ghouls, much like private common areas are for high clergy/siblings only. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t any at all! Most Abby’s have MANY big rooms that are shared by siblings and ghouls. Libraries, pools, gyms, media rooms, etc are not split between the two. Ghouls are welcome to come and go as they please... outside of duty, that is.

High ranking common rooms are typically more furnished and have more easily accessible luxuries. Band ghouls typically get their own TV’s, entertainment devices, kitchens, wash rooms, and anything else they could possibly want!

I keep thinking about ghouls making nests for their human mates. OMG Ghouls making nests for pregnant humans in the clergy omg.

That is actually something that happens quite often in both cases!

Ghouls learning human culture is always a journey, and many are confused by it when they first come up to Earth! Namely that many ghouls are used to sleeping in nests or mats, and not full beds like we have. Ghouls also sleep in piles often, and like having big soft areas of blankets and pillows and soft things to sprawl out on and get comfortable.

Ghouls often see humans as softer, dumber ghouls who sometimes need help in protecting themselves and others. It’s so jarring when they find out that humans DO NOT get very violent and make their own separate nests during the last weeks of their pregnancy.

Pregnant ghouls usually have a week or two period before giving birth where they have the instinctual NEED to prepare a safe baby nest in a quiet and comfortable place. This nest is guarded very well and ghoulettes often get violent in defending it and their soon to be newborns. To know humans don’t get the same way is very confusing, and to know that many humans are PRESENT during the birth is equally as weird. Does the human giving birth not feel threatened by so many in the room? Does the human not have the natural need to maul anything to defend their kit?

You’ll often see ghoulettes whisk soon to be due mothers to a nest they’ve made for their human friend and then stand guard. It takes a lot of talking and persuasion to keep the ghoul from getting defensive- because they just want to help their human friend give birth safely! Luckily many older summoned ghouls can talk each other down and let the human go on their merry way to the Hospital or Infirmary.

Could you maybe draw the Ghouls from different eras meeting one another? I had this thought that they would all meet at one point and (maybe) get along

I think they definitely have all met, especially as being band ghouls!

But one thought kept sticking with me... One inspired by my good friend @sp00kworm who always had the brilliant idea that Air met the gohulettes when they were kits- and thought them how to play when he did. <3

When they first met him, they didn’t even care that he was this ancient, scary, powerful ghoul. All they cared about was the fact that he played this instrument and made music! They instantly wanted to know how!

Many were super surprised when the grouchiest ghoul of all took to teaching these kits so patiently!

Also shout out to @of-devils-and-drawings! I really liked the hair for her unmasked ghoulettes and used it as inspo for the kits!

Ghoul Headcanons - Elements, Sub Types, and Tribes List

(Taking a break from my requests to write some world building. <3 A lot of this is inspired and collaborated with my friends. A big shout out to @knoife-ghoul and @blacklight-ghoulette for writing with, putting up with, and sharing with me. <3 A lot of inspiration has come from collaborations for personal works. But this is a refined version of my personal takes on the concepts.

Definitely check out these two for some awesome ghoul fics! their work is impeccable!! Thanks for creating with my ya’ll <3

Quick note: I might add to this in the future should more types come up!)

Ghoul Elements and Tribes

The ghouls are an elementally imbued species split into five main elements, as illustrated by the band.

Fire, Air, Quintessence, Water, and Earth. Fire and Aether being the most powerful.

Though a lot of the elements can be broken up into tribes or packs. Even two tribes of the same element might not HAVE the same exact powers. Tribes can be broken up by either power type or geographical location. Because ghouls have existed for so long, many have adapted to their specific environment. It’s probably impossible to map out EVERY single individual tribe or clan of ghoul, but here are some all encompassing categories.

Fire - Funnily enough the least varied yet powerful group of ghouls. They mostly all live in Volcanic or high flammable areas of Hell. So their tribes are broken down into individual family clans and power strengths. They aren’t known to have particular ‘sub types’. But tribe independence is fiercely guarded.

“Metal” ghouls - Fire ghouls that have taken to smithing and jewelry. Are known to be excellent crafters. They convert their element to make something useful. They boast the ability to harness raw volcanic material. These tribes tend to be more mountainous or dwell in deeper caves under ground.

“Dragon” ghouls - not their own subtype or anything, but considered naturally the most powerful of fire types. These are just kin related tribes that take more dragon like features. Typically with hard scales, bigger horns, and thicker tails. Usually thought to be the direct descendants of Hell’s first fire ghouls.

Air - besides the Aether tribes, not a lot is known about Air ghouls. Mainly because they are very secluded and stay to themselves. The fun fact of Air ghouls is that they tend to take on the most attributes to their environment. They often combine their natural powers with their habitat to create new magic.

Storm Ghouls - The most dangerous type of Air ghoul. Through magic they have learned to control the weather around them. These types usually dwell in higher grounds. Be it mountains, hilled areas, or even high cliffs near the ocean. You can usually spot Storm ghoul territory by a sudden, violent change in weather. Some humans have speculated there might even be a collaboration between air and water elements to have spawned this tribe.

Wind Ghouls - Considered the most common and aloof. Very hard to spot. It was thought that at one point these ghouls might have had wings or the gift of flight. Their tribes are often small and nomadic- to avoid interaction outside of their kin.

Water - Water ghouls don’t vary in much of locations, but they do display a wide variety of physical appearances! Like fish, they often come in many scale and gill styles. The two main offsets of water ghouls are like, again, fish. You will typically have salt water and ocean water ghouls.

Ocean ghouls - The original type of water ghouls, as birthed in Hell’s oceans. Known to have sharper teeth, bigger claws, and bigger scaled hides. Their water magic is more destructive and can even be weather based.

DEEP ocean ghouls - Thought to be long died out. Considered the fore-bearers of the water tribes. Some of the oldest type of ghoul to have ever been spawned in Hell. If they still exist, no one sees them. They look very fierce and predatory compared to a common ghoul from these days. From what tribes have said, they are the only type to completely be able to live without going on land.

River ghouls - The most common type of water ghoul currently. They are considered more docile than most, but don’t let that fool you. Their water magic is both powerful and the only element to heal that isn’t Aether based. Emotion tuned, sensitive, but ready to drown prey at a moments notice. Some ‘river’ fresh water ghouls will even have an entire lake claimed by one tribe. You will see more color in freshwater ghouls and finer scales with smaller gills and fins.

Swamp/Marsh ghouls - (blow kisses for Blacklight Ghoulette, cause she made this a thing and it’s perfect). Ghouls, like any species, learn to adapt. And these ghouls are just as rare as their old ocean counter parts. They have developed more than just gills, but claws and rough hides. Think gators. Save these ones are way more territorial. Despite being powerfully built, they don’t use their elemental powers as often as their other kin.

Earth - The easiest of the tribes to differentiate. Mainly because they have become the most adapted to their individual environments and display as such. Earth ghouls like to mark their tribe by these locations and areas in Hell they call home.

Plain Ghouls - Considered the ‘Original’ type of Earth ghouls. Common tribal powers encompass both plant and earth based magics. They are the most encountered of the Earth tribes and have a vast area they dwell in. Not very nomadic by nature.

Stone (or Mountain) Ghouls - Ghouls that have migrated into either mountainous terrain or mining areas. They are known for their more rock based use of the element. Also known gem experts and are uncharacteristically tall for Earth ghouls.

Forest Ghouls - Ghouls that dwell in the forests of hell. Marked by their elemental talents in growing plants and over all having a green thumb.

Aether - These ghouls are incredibly hard to find in the wild, and not much is known about them. It is thought that these were the very first of the elements and first ghouls to be raised in Hell. All elements are thought to come from the earliest aether ghouls. Since this was so incomprehensibly long ago, only Satan himself could confirm it. Tribes are also very small and tend to be individual clans. All ghouls of this ilk do share the same powers. But certain ‘types’ show more talent or skill in the same tribe.

Fortune Ghouls - Aether ghouls that are gifted in fortune telling and predictions. They have the most supernatural sense out of all. It is especially amplified in the human world.

Empath or Aura Ghouls - The ghoul tribes who are thought to be able to read minds. Truthfully, their Aether abilities let them understand the world around them. Gifting them with the ability to ‘read’ any living being and understanding it’s nature. They tend to be able to know you better than yourself before even meeting you!

Quintessence ghouls - Those who can manipulate the fabric of the universe around them. These are your teleporters and those who create and destroy matter. They are an exceptionally rare breed to come by, due to their powers. (Omega himself is rumored to hail from this tribe).

Mind benders - Ghouls from this tribe are reported to be able to penetrate the mind and manipulate with great ease. These include memory wiping, memory viewing, or even mind control (should said ghoul be exceptionally powerful).

Shape shifters - there is much debate if these ghouls even exist, even among other ghouls! It is thought that this long dead clan managed to bend the aether to nearly impossbile, demonic lengths. A demon kin skill that no ghoul should be able to master. The ability to change their shape to such an extent where no glamour is required. If the Clergy is to be believed, only one ghoul like this exists...
