Era IV Ghouls React to Cryptids Looking For (non-human) Food

Believe it or not, Cryptid spottings within ministry property is more common than you’d think! Cryptids are often drawn to areas that radiate abnormal energy. Clergy grounds tend to have high levels of magical energy or supernatural/psychic seeped grounds. Which makes it safer scavenging grounds for all sorts of beings!

Ghouls are still pack based, so very protective of their human companions. That, and ghouls live much of their lives in hell competing with dangerous species for food and survival. So the initial reactions of ghouls who guard an abbey would be entirely dependent on if the Cryptid is a danger or not.

For the sake of this ask- let’s say the Cryptid is a sentient, humanoid, and the ghouls are aware they are not a danger!

Aether: The head-Quintessence Ghoul in Training actually knew about you for decades. You lived in the Forrest and land around the main Abbey in Lincopia. You were rather an urban legend among the siblings but were no threat. You had your territory and knew not to venture too close. It’s only when you started stalking the ministry’s livestock that Aether decided to come find you. Livestock wasn’t cheap and Sister Imperator was NOT happy about losing food sources. Aether wanted to prove himself by solving this problem.

You were very easy for him to find with his quintessence abilities. He found you lurking around one of the grazing areas by the tree line, eyeing some of the milking cows. Actually, he was so good at keeping his powers hidden than HE startled YOU! You couldn’t exactly run from a strong ghoul but you were relieved when he calmly asked if you wanted something to eat. It’s how you came to an agreement. You would protect the Ministry animals in exchange for COOKED food.

Swiss: The Guitarist was sneaking around the kitchens for a midnight snack when he heard you. At first he assumed you were another ghoul (or Copia) also looking for a late night treat when he jokingly turned the light on on you. Cue you both staring shocked at each other. You with last night’s roast in your claws and Swiss in the doorway way. It felt like an eternity before either of you moved. Truthfully you were about to bolt out of the window you crawled in through with your meal. But Swiss spoke first. “… you want a drink to go with that?”

Despite the awkward start you weren’t intimated by the ghoul. Instead he helped fix you a plate of all the best left overs. You even spoke like you both weren’t supernatural beings in the middle of a human kitchen. It’s was actually nice. Swiss promised to keep slipping you some food if you wanted to come back the next night. Somehow you both went months of having this routine before you were caught!

Sodo/Ember: The fire ghoul was actually sent out to hunt you down! When Sister Imperator heard from a few siblings and clergy members that something was prowling the halls and breaking in she sent a few ghouls to look. Sodo wasn’t happy about the task but he couldn’t say no. He was convinced the siblings were seeing things… until the night he saw you ducking into one of the pantries. It’s also how you found yourself tackled to the ground when you were holding a bag of uncooked rice.

The two of you grappled, Sodo trying to pin you and you trying to escape. He was stronger than he looked and didn’t relent until you yelled. “I’M JUST HUNGRY!!” At first he didn’t believe you until you pleaded that you didn’t eat human meat! That made the fire ghoul stop completely. “… well FUCK- why didn’t you just ask!!” Imperator was not as happy finding Sodo feeding you in the kitchens, but she supposed it was better than finding out you were hunting siblings.

Cirrus: As the most pragmatic ghoul of the band, the keyboardist was not worried about you. It was only a rumor that something was stalking the halls of the clergy. As far as she figured it: humans weren’t going missing, livestock was undisturbed, and the outdoor pets of the siblings were all accounted for. So what was the issue? Well, according to Sister Imperator, it’s an issue when the food budget for the abbey keeps going up. Reluctantly, Cirrus was assigned to help hunt you down.

It only took her a day to track you down. You had feeding patterns based on the moon and certain foods you craved. One comically prepared net later and she had you! You had gulped while tangled in the enchanted net. But the tall ghoulette only kneeled and sighed. “Can you PLEASE just go join the ministry? I’m sick of trying to catch you!” Did you really have a choice? Either way, it was the start to a new friendship!

Cumulus: She actually had a personal vendetta against you. Unbeknownst to you, some of the snacks you pilfered from the pantry were actually HERS! You weren’t very versed in human food, but you loved these little chocolate truffle things. They tasted so much better than some of the bagged sweets! Although the pantry humans didn’t get them often… how were YOU supposed to know they were specially ordered all the way from Belgium for the cloud ghoulette? Little did you know your recent trip into the food stores actually had a trap!

The moment you touched the fancy back of candies you heard someone pop out. “AH CAUGHT YOU!! YOU-!! … you don’t belong here.” Normally you’d run but with her blocking the door there was no where to run… and she looked stronger than you. Just when you thought she was about to yell, she started to laugh. “That explains so much! … well, if you were hungry you could have asked!” This is how you found a ghoul ally in the clergy!

Rain: He’s in trouble because it turns out… he has been feeding you for months. You are what he actually considers a close friend now. Rain met you during his many excursions to the creeks and small ponds in the forest around the clergy. There is a huge lake for all the water ghouls but Rain likes his alone time. Imagine his surprise when he jumped into a pond and you came scrambling out. Rain felt bad and tried to make it up to you. Weeks later is when the humans started to spot you getting closer to the clergy walls.

The band Rain started to sneak out more and get really weird whenever anyone mentioned the new monster sightings. His behavior got stranger and stranger when he started hoarding extra snacks that would later disappear. It took half of the band following him out at night to see what he was up to! He ended up getting in trouble with Imperator, but luckily for him you were pretty harmless when left alone! He has to get proper visitation now, but you are happier he always comes with big full meals provided by the humans!

Sunshine: Sunny honestly didn’t know you WEREN’T supposed to be in the buildings. They are so freshly summoned they are still learning about what is considered ‘normal’ to humans and what isn’t. To Sunshine, it made perfect sense there was a supernatural being wandering around for food! They were just happy to meet someone new that smelt fun! On your end? You had been expecting the mixed element ghoul to attack you… not excitedly grab your hand and show you where the GOOD food was.

The band and Papa listened on and on about Sunshine talking about their new friend. None really knowing you were a Cryptid. From how they described you you were just a loner and a bit weird. They begged you be allowed to join them for dinner. Papa agreed just happy his first summoned ghoul was making friends… until you walked in. Everyone just stared in shock but none moved. When sodo tried to point out you were possibly dangerous Sunshine snarled. It was awkward but… everyone in the band just had to except you were there. Papa especially!

Mountain: The drummer actually knew you were in the walls for a while, you just didn’t do anything to make him worried. So what was the point of exposing you? Also, come to find later, he had assumed EVERYONE knew there was a cryptid in wall. Why else were you allowed to stay? (Not everyone knew and many jaws were dropped when Monty casually mentioned it). He was rather indifferent to you taking food… until you picked clean one of his favorite fruit trees. Even the really good fruits at the very top!

One night you were making your rounds when you suddenly felt yourself being lifted off your feet. You froze as you turned to look at the giant ghoul. Monty stared at you for an agonizingly silent minute before speaking gently. “If you take the last fruit you have to let the garden ghouls know.” You nodded , scared and he set you down. And then just.., walked off. You weren’t sure how to feel. But eventually you made a friend in him!

Phantom: Our favorite chaotic ghoul accidentally ran into you while you were scavenging for food! Phantom often likes to disappear into the scary forest surrounding the main clergy Abbey. Specifically at night where he does… well, no one is sure WHAT he does. But the point was is you startled him and he startled you! Neither of you were particularly hostile at each other but more curious. Phantom was VERY interested in what you were and why you were so close to ghoul (and demon) territory. You just wanted to know what a ghoul even was!

Phantom, you found, was incredibly inquisitive and asked you many questions. But when you eventually admitted you were just looking for food he offered to take you home!! You weren’t sure it was a good idea… but when he promised a good meal how could you refuse? The man in the skull face paint wasn’t happy Phantom dragged in an outsider, but everyone was nice none the less. Either way, after being checked out by the other ghouls to make sure you weren’t a threat you were offered a job in exchange for meals. Now you and Phantom are in charge of keeping outsiders from exploring the Forrest!

Aurora: The vocalist thought a lot of the siblings of sin were trying to pull her tail when they claimed they saw a monster in the nearby forest. Who knows what’s out there, but humans tended to get themselves worked up over the littlest shadows in the trees! But when she heard squeals of fright, looked to where siblings were pointing, and saw you walking around the trees… well, she was convinced Aurora isn’t a reckless ghoul, but she is very brave! And she certainly wasn’t going to ignore a cryptid prowling around with vulnerable humans!

She was the first to investigate you and quickly deduced you were harmless. A bit scary to the humans, but you were just hungry! The other guard ghouls came over to see Aurora ushering you inside- much to their chagrin. But who was going to argue with a band ranked ghoul? She happily fed you and introduced you to Copia and Sister Imperator. The only thing keeping her from getting in trouble is that Copia knew what kind of cryptid you were. Now she brings you meals and considers you a friend!

Era IV Jobs Before the Ghost Project

Aether: Aether was summoned when the ministry decided to start training successor ghouls to the current ghoul leaders. Air had finally stepped down as Beta ghoul, and the ministry was afraid others would do the same. Ather was summoned specially to become the next Omega ghoul. While Aether has his own powers of healing that took over as his main duties, he mainly shadowed the head quintessence ghoul. This included a lot of traveling, learning about Earth and human culture, and working with many different types of ghouls. There was also a lot of personal assistance to the Emeritus line, as aether ghoul healing is more effective for demon blood than normal human medicine.

When Omega was on his tours, Aether took care of his business in his stead to test how close he was to being ready. Aether was never originally meant to take part in the Ghost project until a few albums ahead. But with Omega’s sudden departure and being needed back in the Clergy, Aether was once again tested by being a band substitute. Luckily, he was a natural and has been proving himself as the next head ghoul! Handling both responsibilities and the pressure of being the Omega Ghoul.

Cumulus: Cumulus has been around for a few decades and has served enthusiastically. Her first decade was as an assistant to Papa I- her summoner. Namely as his ritual assistant and with his paperwork. She has always had a good eye for detail and organization, with a queenly air of authority about her. But Papa believes in letting his ghouls flourish to their strong suits. Until Copia’s ascension, Cumulus has been the lively and loyal personal ghoul to Sister Imperator. Serving as everything from bodyguard, personal confidant, and even enforcer to the Mother Superior. Cumulus was the very first selected for the job of band ghoul when it was Copia’s turn to head the Ghost project.

Imperator wanted a ghoul who was smart, capable, and with a good grasp of leadership to help supervise the other ghouls. Cumulus was also vouched for by Air. Her and Cirrus were both personally trained by the older ghoul when he was looking for a successor for the Beta ghoul position. While neither were chosen for that particular duty, Cumulus is happy to be a part of the band. She still keeps in touch with Imperator and sometimes acts as though she is Copia’s manager. If something goes wrong or needs to be done, Cumulus is the first to know.

Cirrus: Cirrus has gone back and forth between two duties. Serving the current Imperator and studying under the former Beta ghoul, Air. Cirrus is a tough cookie and has been a ghoulish enforcer for many abbies. Essentially keeping ghouls and siblings in line when it comes to fights or rule breaking. There are always ghouls who make sure the will of the clergy is followed and those who commit crimes are punished. This was her preferred job, rather than work with Air. Who tended to find stuffy, traditional research more important. Cirrus, as calm as she is, prefers hands on work. She’s also worked security detail for all of the Papas but most importantly, Grand Papa Nihil. Cirrus is a long time bodyguard (and baby sitter) for the Grandpapa and Sister Imperator.

Cirrus was recommended by both Cumulus and Air- since they were both practically raised by Air to be potential leader ghouls. Nihil was particularly sad to see Cirrus disappear from his entourage, but agreed she would be a wonderful fit. Also Nihil and Imperator can agreed that Cirrus keeps Copia in line by her sheer intimidating presence and powerful aura. Cirrus would be lying if she said she didn’t also enjoy the chance to do something more fun and get away from the clergy for a bit!

Mountain: Although Mountain was summoned by Papa II, he was never strictly a ghoul for the Emeritus. Personally summoned ghouls tend to be bodyguards or close entourage for their Papal summoners. For a couple of decades Mountain was an effective and reliable body guard for Papa II. But Papa eventually realized his ghoul’s talents were being wasted. Stone ghouls have been shown to have natural strength beyond most ghouls and a good eye for architecture. Mountain has been responsible for helping build new cathedrals, quarters, and even clearing land. His level headedness and bluntness have also been excellent when working with Papa II, who has supervised many of these new buildings.

Mountain being assigned to go with Copia was actually a sort of ‘good faith loan’ from Papa II. Don’t get me wrong, Papa II does NOT like Copia. He finds him opportunistic and a usurping leech… However, Copia IS chosen by Lucifer. Papa II cares about his ministry MORE than he hates Copia. Since he hasn’t had Mountain as a bodyguard for years he decides to recommend him. After all, it also looks good on him for being generous enough to support the newest singer of the band. The Ministry was happy, mainly to let the Cardinal practice working with ghouls of different types and skill sets to delegate. On tour he was accepted and chosen for both his natural talents but to help balance out all of the incredibly strong personalities of the current ghouls.

Rain: Rain was a very behind the scenes ghoul, and rarely worked in the public congregation. He was the archivist assistant to the current head water ghoul, Delta. Delta is one of the oldest serving ghouls who now takes care of the Ministry’s protected collections of records. Rain has happily kept a quiet existence processing old and new registrations for the entire ministry. At one point Rain had studied directly under Delta with Water and Mist- all powerful water ghouls who are being trained for greater works. Rain loved playing music but never considered himself one to be ever picked for anything but reorganizing entire archives and dusting off old books.

Rain was recommended by Mist after her short stint with the Ghost project and Papa III. While she wanted to go on tour, she was needed elsewhere to train. She could vouch for Rain’s hard work and need to open up and embrace his potential. Copia was happy to take the water ghoul, as was shown to have indelible talent and an agreeable personality. The touring has definitely made Rain want to be more active in the ministry and with his fellow ghouls.

Swiss: Swiss was actually pretty high ranked before he became a band ghoul! While not part of the leader ghouls for the entire ministry, Swiss was the top ghoul in one of the main cathedrals outside of the head abbey. This meant he directed, advocated, and watched over all of the ghouls a part of the cathedral. Making sure all duties were done and all ghouls were taken care of. Swiss is a pretty strong ghoul in his own right. While he is fire he was born from two mixed ghouls of different elements. So he is well versed in different elemental energies and knowledge. His easy going nature and quick wit makes him a favorite among siblings and ghouls alike. Higher Clergy also worked with him to make accommodations and holidays for the ghouls.

Swiss was hand picked by Copia who worked with him pre Ghost project. Copia has always valued Swiss’s hard work and ability to get along with everyone he met. Swiss was agreed by Imperator and the ministry to be a great ghoul. Not just in vocals but bringing everyone together and interacting with the fans and staff. Swiss accepted the position with glee. He loves doing ceremonies at his home abbey, and a Ritual is nothing different- just bigger! Plus, Swiss will never turn down a chance to sing.

Ember: Ember has been strong but an entire pain in the ass of the Ministry for a LONG time. There have been many times he was almost sent back to Hell because he was difficult to control. Ember has calmed down in recent years, but he can still be a bit of a thorn in everyone's side. But he has so much potential within the Ministry, he’s too valuable of an asset. At first he was summoned as the potential candidate to be the next Alpha ghoul, for when Alpha eventually steps down. But to help him adjust to the responsibilities he had been shipped to many places with many duties. He’s been everything from a guard, to ritual assistant, to attack dog.

Eventually he found a spot with Papa III right before he went on tour as his bodyguard. Their energies actually worked very well together and he was one of the few before Copia who was able to give him the right outlets he needed. Ember was hand chosen to be a bassist by Papa III when Alpha had to return with Omega to the Ministry. Ember had originally asked to be guitarist, but the Ministry was interested in testing Ifrit to be the next Alpha ghoul. Ember was just happy to play but was absolutely thrilled when Copia asked for him to play head guitar.

(Also for anyone who needs clarity, I refer to the taller ghoul as Cirrus and the shorter as Cumulus! :) )

~Cumulus and Cirrus were already a couple before you joined them. You got incredibly close after they came home from their last tour. You knew for a long time you had feelings for both ghoulettes, but tried to be respectful to their relationship. But your jaw hit the floor when both confessed to you (surprisingly casually) that they wanted to try dating you. They both admitted they adored you and you made them both feel loved. It took time but eventually the three of you were inseparable!

~The Ghoulettes are notoriously protective of those they love. Be it bandmates, friends, or you! When you three became serious you finally understood why Copia referred to them as 'lionesses'. Cirrus and Cumulus would happily tear anyone apart who was rude or trying to hurt you. You fondly remember getting into a minor argument with another Sibling and then feeling two bodies press against your shoulders. When you turned around you saw both air ghouls glaring daggers at the Sibling that was trying to speak down to you. You've never seen anyone run away so quickly!

~The two have very different ways they like to be shown love and that's always been fine to you! Cumulus likes being pampered and treated like a queen (and she will treat you like royalty in return!) Cirrus likes to be the one who treats YOU TWO rather than you treat her. Cirrus likes the feeling of being the protective provider, but will slowly accept being spoiled.

~Cumulus is the partner that prefers more quality time spent together while Cirrus will often request more alone time. Often time Cumulus and you will spend most of the time together until Cirrus is ready to join. You always accept her with open arms when she's ready !

~You and Cumulus are one of the few people that get to see Cirrus vulnerable and comfortable. She is a very guarded ghoul and despises letting outsiders into your personal life. Cumulus will always cheerily point out all of the cute things Cirrus does to show she trusts you! Cirrus usually denies it but does nothing to stop the behavior. Recently you noticed that Cirrus likes it when you play with her hair and actively seeks out some sort of scritches from you.

~Cumulus is more likely to be in the kitchen and cook than Cirrus. Not that Cirrus CAN'T cook, but Cumulus has more of a knack for it and makes very tasty food. Cumulus will often happily cook for the three of you. however if you cook for HER she will be delighted!!

~Both air ghouls absolutely love to cuddle! You being in the middle seems to be their favorite. Cumulus tells you it's because you are the most fun to cuddle between the three of them, and Cirrus insists it's because they both want to protect you. Either way, you've woken up with two sleepy ghouls pressed on both of your sides. They've managed to keep you so warm you rarely need a blanket!

~Personality wise, you've always been a very well rounded group. Cirrus is the logical, blunt, yet encouraging one. Cumulus is the soothing, more emotional, and doting one. And you are, well, you! You've found having perspectives from both of your partners has been helpful in communicating and figuring out any problems together.

~Both ghoulettes are attentive partners in many ways. The only thing they can be confused on is human culture and etiquette. Well both are well versed they are not perfect! The same could be said for your knowledge on ghoulish behavior. Cumulus tends to find some of your slip ups endearing and funny, but Cirrus always calmly and firmly corrects you. On the flip side, you're more than happy to talk to them more in depth about human matters!

I didn’t stick to one instance, so I went back and forth of why and when the reader is listening to music! But I tried to keep dancing in all of them! 

Era IV Ghouls with S/O Blaring and Dancing to Latin Music

Aether: Anytime you dance or just look happy, Aether is so stricken with adoration. His favorite is just seeing you lost in your world and music. Sometimes you laugh because you catch him staring with a love struck look on his face! “You want to join, Big Guy?” He always says yes! He loves the songs you play and you sometimes catch him singing them when he’s alone. Eventually he asks you to make HIM a playlist he can jam to when you two are apart for work or chores! Aether is also NOT the best dancer, but if you lead he will definitely join you! 

Swiss: No matter what you are in the middle of doing, if you are dancing to music you have just invited him to be your dance partner! Cleaning? Nope, dancing. Cooking? It’s gonna burn cause it’s time to DANCE! Dancing just because? Great, he’s gonna join! Swiss loves to shimmy and dance, but expect him to be a bit goofy. If you actually have training and skill, he DEFINITELY wants you to teach him all that you know! At the end of the day, the ghoul just loves music and getting to be goofy with you! Be careful, because sometimes he gets ahead of himself and might break something by accident! 

Cumulus: Don’t get her wrong, she absolutely LOVES seeing you dance- but she loves CATCHING you dance more! You are never ashamed, or anything like that. You just tend to get lost in your own little world and pretend music video. And Cumulus LOVES to jokingly sneak up on you! She always grins but immediately gives you a cheek kiss before turning up the music. You both always end up having a duet to both sing and dance together! Cumulus loves to lead, even if you are taller than her! But her favorite is when you sing and dance around her like a bird attracting a mate. It works every time!  

Cirrus: She usually finds you practicing dancing after she comes back from rehearsals. At first she just liked to relax and watch you practice. But eventually she wanted to join you and asked if you could help teach her! You were so excited at the thought of FINALLY having a partner learn with you. You both started slow and let her learn. Cirrus already danced on stage once or twice, but she loves having you teach her how to properly move. Cirrus is a fast learner and soon you both get to the intermediate dance moves! She enjoys your weekly practice sessions and even offered to compete if you were so inclined.  

Rain: As much as he loves seeing you have a good time Rain is always more excited for the music!  The moment he hears you blaring the music the water ghoul comes running. Will always ask if you can play his favorite song from your playlist if you could! Rain prefers to do your chores together because of this. He always tells you how everything is way more fun when you got music going! But Rain always ends up getting distracted with wanting to dance with you! You’re the one who always dances but Rain is the one who always ends up singing and trying to air play specific instruments to the song! Either way, you both have a blast when the music starts! 

Mountain: You thought at first that he has never seen you dance around or heard your music, ever. But the truth is he has known about it for months but just lets you go. One day you were i the middle of cleaning and trying to salsa when you screamed, seeing Mountain in the corner just watching you! After getting over the fright your big lug gave you, you ask him how long he’s been standing there! Mountain admits whenever you dance around he likes to watch you. When you ask WHY he never says anything or joins he sheepishly admits that you always look so happy and doesn’t have the heart to interrupt! 

Ember: It’s honestly his favorite sight to see! But even though he finds your dancing adorable and your choice of music excellent... there is his absolute need to fuck with you that over rides his appreciation. EVERY. TIME! Ember will watch you for a few minutes to enjoy how happy you are before taking over your music device. Suddenly your music is changed to heavy metal! You look back to see a grinning Ghoul stick his tongue out at you! His favorite is when you jokingly chase him out of the room.

Ghouls and Scent Marking Humans

Scent has always been an incredible part of ghoul territory and sense! And naturally, everyone and thing has a particular scent they carry. Inevitably, when you spend time with a ghoul for any reason you WILL carry their scent even if you don’t know it! 

That being said, there is a difference between carrying scent and being Marked. Like you asked, yes- if a particular human is scent MARKED other ghouls will leave them alone... for the most part. 

Scent marking is done very intentionally on items, territories, rooms, human, and even other ghouls! So a human will have a ghoul who rubs up against their necks and other parts of the body to be ‘claimed.’ This is entirely done for a number of reasons. 

1) Scent marked means that an item or person belongs to a ghoul pack and is, therefore, protected. So in Hell, that means if something should HAPPEN to this particular marked person or thing it means you will have angry ghouls who will retaliate should anything happen. 

2) All families, packs, or tribes carry a scent and it’s a ghoul way to recognize safe members of their community or individuals who carry favor. 

3) The scent on a human is definitely either a warning or a claim. A warning for other ghouls to stay away (for many reasons) OR the ghoul has claimed the human for companionship. 

Most of the time, this scent will make other ghouls back off from said human. Especially if it smells like a higher ranked or more powerful ghouls. Others can perceive this as a challenge. 

It’s very difficult for the human ministry of the clergy to really regulate and watch over when scenting happens- as humans can’t pick on the smells. But they try their best in order to keep in fighting from happening! 

If two ghouls fancy one human, and the human is scent marked, a challenge CAN and sometimes WILL happen. A ghoul can be bold enough to fight another ghoul for their human companion. It’s a messy, territorial nightmare and one the Ministry is NOT fond of. So you will often hear warnings to ignore or stop nuzzling from ghouls when it occurs. 

Ghoul anatomy is a favorite! <3  Threw in some extra ghouls too! :)

Era 3 + 4 Ghoul Tails! 

Omega: A thick, darker skinned tail with a spade that has a V like barb shape on the bottom. Not terribly pointed but enough to have a distinct silhouette!  It’s actually very soft to touch but very strong. 

Alpha: Common for many fire ghouls, a shorter tail that’s about a little more half his height. The spade is asymmetrical and has one barb that is hook like on the top that’s quite sharp on the edge. Only slightly thicker where it connects to his lower back. 

Air: Long and incredibly prehensile, more than the average ghoul! Constantly able to coil like a snack and even trip people if he so wished. The end of the tail is barbed and wicked, with a few small spikes lining just under the tip. 

Water: A more oceanic ghoul tail, as it’s thicker than a standard tail. It does taper off at the tip, that has a spade like a smaller shark tail fin. Has two extra fins at the base of his tail. The bottom of his tail is slightly paler than the rest of it. 

Earth: It’s shorter than an average ghoul tail length, but it’s proportionate it to his height. As a plains earth ghoul he has a bit of fur and fluff on the end of his tail, right under the spade! His tail is thicker with a flatter spade at the tip. 

Special: An almost serpent like tail that is pitch black, standing out against the grey of his flesh. It tends to curl like a cartoon and never stops moving. The spade at the end is almost comically cartoon shaped, but thin like the head of an old ink pen. 

Cowbell: Unfortunately, does not has a cow like tail! Much to the disappoint of everyone who knows his nick name! The spade of his tail looks like an actual spade in a deck of cards, rounded on the sides and is sat on the end of a longer tail. It’s very average size, think of the girth of circumference of about three fingers. 

Mist: Another oceanic ghoul like tail, but thinner than Water’s. Dark scales line where it connects to her lower back and on the small fin like spade at the end. The bottom is the same grey as her skin, but darker on top and spotted around where her scales end. 

Ember: Short like a typical fire ghoul, but looks smaller due to being proportion to his height. Very dark at the spade but fades to his normal grey skin color at the base. Double hooked at the spade and actually very sharp. Tends to wag when he’s excited or up to mischief.  

Aether: Shorter but super thick. Still manages to be pretty flexible, especially at the bottom of the spade. The same color as his skin but at the very tip of his spade it has a dark blush. His spade has soft sides and is very silky to touch! 

Mountain: Very long and thick, but consistent size through out the entire length. Hurts if it accidentally ever hits you. The spade is slightly bigger than average but doesn’t have pointed sides- it has more of a smooth shape. His tail is darker than the rest of his skin. 

Cumulus: Very long tail, longer than her height! Half way up her tail it starts to gradient into a black tip. Asymmetrical spade that’s bigger on the top, but both ends are rounded. Like Air’s tends to curl back towards her body into a loose spiral. 

Cirrus: Also long but almost completely black until it hits her lower back. Has a barbed, sharp spade and a couple of spikes under it. Tends to lay straight and doesn’t move as much, so it can be hard to tell her mood based on it. 

Rain: Very long tail with a fin like spade at the bottom- the tail is almost as long as he is. It has a line of scales on the top of it the same light blue color as the scales under his ears/gills. The base of his tail is thicker where it connects to his lower back and gets thinner as it goes to the tip.  

Swiss: Actually long for a fire ghoul, thanks to his mixed elemental genes. Has a soft hooked spade like Alpha’s, but the edges are softer and not as pronounced. Extra prehensile and he often like to holds things with it. His favorite party trick is using his tail to open bottles.

Era 4 Ghouls in the presence of an Angel

Aether: The quintessence ghoul definitely felt the angel before he saw them! One of the benefits (and drawbacks) of his element is that he can be considered more elementally aligned with angels. While not “holy” the aether does use a lot of properities and magic angels do. Aether is almost immediately worried when he senses on and let’s everyone know an angel is around! He wants to stay calm but can always feel his element acting up, ready to strike out when needed. Among all the ghouls he is most likely to be a peace keeper and to inquire WHY the angel is there in the first place! His second instinct is to keep other ghouls from attacking so a fight doesn’t break out! 

Ember: His strategy is to be as loud and intimidating as possible without actually having to fight... at first. It really depends on how the Angel presents itself. Ember has no problem dropping everything to fight immediately, but he knows sometimes scaring something off works just as well! He absolutely will change into fight mode should to angel make ANY aggressive movements. Ember knows how deadly angels can be around. If Aether is around and the Angel is passive, he MIGHT consider calming down. But only if other ghouls are there to hold him back! 

Rain: Very weary and on guard, but more like you would see with an anxious cat. Back arched and hair raised, but won’t swat at you unless you get too close. Rain normally is more friendly but Angels can be bad news. If the angel in question can prove they are there on neutral terms and not to cause harm he may, eventually, come around to talk to them. Some angels aren’t there to fight or hurt the children of Hell, but every fiber of his being is right to be weary. The rational side of Rain wants so badly to be friendly and have a decent conversation but he just can’t- not when letting your guard down can get you killed! 

Swiss: Cocky bastard of a ghoul smiles, even does friendly things like wave and have a conversation. Don’t take this the wrong way, he will still be on guard. But Swiss never likes to show how upset or weary he is, it gives away your sense of surprise! If he TRULY deems the Angel not a threat, he will be courteous and charming like he is with any other person or ghoul. Swiss deep down feels many lower ranked angels are like ghouls, they can’t help that they are born to a certain faction. Both are stuck in opposing sides that they didn’t choose. Olive branches can go a long way, if you ask him! 

Cumulus: A lot like Swiss, the smaller ghoulette puts a more calculated and nonchalant front. Getting herself worked up doesn’t help and only puts the angel on guard. But a part of her is definitely curious, as she has never been near a holy being so close! If not a threat she might talk to the angel and keep it to small talk. Definitely wanting to know more while keeping them at an arms length. That being said, she won’t hesitate to try and rip them to shreds if they try to harm her or her friends! 

Cirrus: Cirrus can be described as standoffish, but she’s normally a very level headed ghoul. Being in the presence of holy enemies puts her on edge. She won’t go into a blind rage but she will snarl, hiss, and her heckles will stand. Cirrus definitely WANTS to fight the Angel, but does not want to endanger everyone around her. So she will keep a good threatening stance in case the angel wants to fight. She will be willing to exchange words if need be, but they are curt and not very nice. 

Mountain: VERY quiet yet alert, unmoving and mostly watching. Mountain’s natural ghoul instinct tells him to fight to defend his friends and loved ones from the angel. But he knows it’s too foolish to strike first without a plan and without reason. It will just cause more problems in the end! So he patiently waits to see what the angel will do, especially if the holy being is interacting with his friends. He won’t go out of his way to speak to them, however. If the angel feels hostile he will fight tooth and nail to protect everyone!

Era IV Ghouls with Their S/O cuddling and singing to them to Sleep

Ember: Is unashamed to admit he loves getting to cuddle even if he is a complete brat about it. While Ember much rather get into OTHER physical deeds, he’s not going to say no to some soft time. But he will get on your nervous about it by pretending to be difficult. Ember will want to roll around and change positions many times before you can convince him to stay still. The easiest way you’ve done this? Playing with his hair. Once you get your hands on his hair does he start to relax. Ember might grumble about how dumb he looks with braids but will whine if you stop making them. His eyes don’t start to get heavy until you start to sing. 

Aether: Aether absolutely adores any excuse to nap AND have you in each other’s arms! when you mention you’re in the mood to cuddle he nearly belly flops on top of you to get into bed! There’s no escape from an Aether bear hug once you promise a night of snuggles! Aether is a very handsy ghoul with you because he just loves to be in your embrace. So singing to him only makes the entire mood that much better! Aether loves to play with your hands gently when you sing to him, only stopping if you rub around his horns and ears (his favorite spots!) After your songs, if he is even awake, Aether gives you a small round of applause. He loves to compliment your singing. Always makes the same joke. “If I wasn’t so comfortable I’d go get my guitar and we could make music together!” Give him ten minutes before he’s snoring. 

Swiss: This ghoul is widely known for being the most extreme cuddle bug of the band. So be warned, if you do this for him once he will never leave you alone! Swiss is like a giant cuddly cat that constantly needs attention and snuggles. Normally he is the one singing to you but you singing to him? His eyes light up more than a fan being Cirice’d! He lays down in your lap purring up a storm and nuzzling into your warm stomach or chest. Swiss will pull your hand to his head so you can rub under his mask as his eyes get heavy. He inevitably falls asleep with a grin on his face and radiating a nice warmth. 

Cirrus: It’s all very new for the ghoulette, as she is used to being the one to hold and cuddle YOU! Cirrus is the big spoon and doesn’t quite know how to feel relinquishing control. At first she seems stiff and a bit hesistant, but let’s you continue. When you are behind her you start to rub her shoulders as you sing gently in her ear. Eventually her back and arms stop tensing and she starts to go limp from the attention. Cirrus actually has a very delicate and quiet purr, so if it wasn’t for her form vibrating you would barely be able to hear it!  Before she falls asleep she will grabs you arms and pull them around her, nuzzling into your neck. If you stop petting her she actually grumbles, “why’d ya stop?” It’s not long before you have a sleeping ghoulette on your shoulder. 

Cumulus: Normally, Cumulus is the one to sing you to sleep with her sweet voice. But she doesn’t mind the same treatment right back! She loves being spoiled by you. Nothing gets this ghoulette to purr like having you play with her hair as she lays in your lap. Cumulus loves to climb up your torso until her arms are around you as you continue the lullaby. Sometimes she even joins in, matching your voice as you stare into each other’s eyes. Cumulus has alwasy enjoyed the cheesy moments and always ends the song with a kiss on your nose. After you two nuzzling down into your covers, hands rubbing each other’s sides. 

Rain: Even though he comes off as calm most of the time, the promise of cuddles has this ghoul practically tackling you to the bed! Rain LOVES any type of snuggles or physical contact, so he’s always eager to be curled around you. Rain hums along with you when you sing to him, and closes his eyes as he stretches. Rain adores your voice and regularly asks for you to sing to him! When you do he melts like butter in your arms and doesn’t move. The longest he has ever lasted with you patting him to sleep and serenading him was five minutes before he was completely knocked out. It’s adorable the way he curls around you like a giant kit. 

Mountain: Mountain grins like an idiot whenever you softly sing him love songs. He’s got a huge soft spot for small, romantic gestures. You serenading him is on his top list of what he loves! The earth ghoul loves to rub your foreheads together gently and purr as you sing. He rarely can just sit there and let you do all the rubbing and cuddling, and feels better when he can reciprocate. Most of the time, you trying to make him relax ends up with you on the receiving end of the best deep tissue massage you can ever get! Mountain loves the attention, but prefers to give! At the end of every attempt to put him to sleep YOU’RE the one who ends up napping in HIS lap! Mountain loves getting to hold you as you drift off. A part of him thinks it would be extremely precious if humans could purr like ghouls...

That is actually something that happens quite often in both cases! 

Ghouls learning human culture is always a journey, and many are confused by it when they first come up to Earth! Namely that many ghouls are used to sleeping in nests or mats, and not full beds like we have. Ghouls also sleep in piles often, and like having big soft areas of blankets and pillows and soft things to sprawl out on and get comfortable. 

Ghouls often see humans as softer, dumber ghouls who sometimes need help in protecting themselves and others. It’s so jarring when they find out that humans DO NOT get very violent and make their own separate nests during the last weeks of their pregnancy. 

Pregnant ghouls usually have a week or two period before giving birth where they have the instinctual NEED to prepare a safe baby nest in a quiet and comfortable place. This nest is guarded very well and ghoulettes often get violent in defending it and their soon to be newborns. To know humans don’t get the same way is very confusing, and to know that many humans are PRESENT during the birth is equally as weird. Does the human giving birth not feel threatened by so many in the room? Does the human not have the natural need to maul anything to defend their kit? 

You’ll often see ghoulettes whisk soon to be due mothers to a nest they’ve made for their human friend and then stand guard. It takes a lot of talking and persuasion to keep the ghoul from getting defensive- because they just want to help their human friend give birth safely! Luckily many older summoned ghouls can talk each other down and let the human go on their merry way to the Hospital or Infirmary.
