Era IV Ghouls React to Cryptids Looking For (non-human) Food

Believe it or not, Cryptid spottings within ministry property is more common than you’d think! Cryptids are often drawn to areas that radiate abnormal energy. Clergy grounds tend to have high levels of magical energy or supernatural/psychic seeped grounds. Which makes it safer scavenging grounds for all sorts of beings!

Ghouls are still pack based, so very protective of their human companions. That, and ghouls live much of their lives in hell competing with dangerous species for food and survival. So the initial reactions of ghouls who guard an abbey would be entirely dependent on if the Cryptid is a danger or not.

For the sake of this ask- let’s say the Cryptid is a sentient, humanoid, and the ghouls are aware they are not a danger!

Aether: The head-Quintessence Ghoul in Training actually knew about you for decades. You lived in the Forrest and land around the main Abbey in Lincopia. You were rather an urban legend among the siblings but were no threat. You had your territory and knew not to venture too close. It’s only when you started stalking the ministry’s livestock that Aether decided to come find you. Livestock wasn’t cheap and Sister Imperator was NOT happy about losing food sources. Aether wanted to prove himself by solving this problem.

You were very easy for him to find with his quintessence abilities. He found you lurking around one of the grazing areas by the tree line, eyeing some of the milking cows. Actually, he was so good at keeping his powers hidden than HE startled YOU! You couldn’t exactly run from a strong ghoul but you were relieved when he calmly asked if you wanted something to eat. It’s how you came to an agreement. You would protect the Ministry animals in exchange for COOKED food.

Swiss: The Guitarist was sneaking around the kitchens for a midnight snack when he heard you. At first he assumed you were another ghoul (or Copia) also looking for a late night treat when he jokingly turned the light on on you. Cue you both staring shocked at each other. You with last night’s roast in your claws and Swiss in the doorway way. It felt like an eternity before either of you moved. Truthfully you were about to bolt out of the window you crawled in through with your meal. But Swiss spoke first. “… you want a drink to go with that?”

Despite the awkward start you weren’t intimated by the ghoul. Instead he helped fix you a plate of all the best left overs. You even spoke like you both weren’t supernatural beings in the middle of a human kitchen. It’s was actually nice. Swiss promised to keep slipping you some food if you wanted to come back the next night. Somehow you both went months of having this routine before you were caught!

Sodo/Ember: The fire ghoul was actually sent out to hunt you down! When Sister Imperator heard from a few siblings and clergy members that something was prowling the halls and breaking in she sent a few ghouls to look. Sodo wasn’t happy about the task but he couldn’t say no. He was convinced the siblings were seeing things… until the night he saw you ducking into one of the pantries. It’s also how you found yourself tackled to the ground when you were holding a bag of uncooked rice.

The two of you grappled, Sodo trying to pin you and you trying to escape. He was stronger than he looked and didn’t relent until you yelled. “I’M JUST HUNGRY!!” At first he didn’t believe you until you pleaded that you didn’t eat human meat! That made the fire ghoul stop completely. “… well FUCK- why didn’t you just ask!!” Imperator was not as happy finding Sodo feeding you in the kitchens, but she supposed it was better than finding out you were hunting siblings.

Cirrus: As the most pragmatic ghoul of the band, the keyboardist was not worried about you. It was only a rumor that something was stalking the halls of the clergy. As far as she figured it: humans weren’t going missing, livestock was undisturbed, and the outdoor pets of the siblings were all accounted for. So what was the issue? Well, according to Sister Imperator, it’s an issue when the food budget for the abbey keeps going up. Reluctantly, Cirrus was assigned to help hunt you down.

It only took her a day to track you down. You had feeding patterns based on the moon and certain foods you craved. One comically prepared net later and she had you! You had gulped while tangled in the enchanted net. But the tall ghoulette only kneeled and sighed. “Can you PLEASE just go join the ministry? I’m sick of trying to catch you!” Did you really have a choice? Either way, it was the start to a new friendship!

Cumulus: She actually had a personal vendetta against you. Unbeknownst to you, some of the snacks you pilfered from the pantry were actually HERS! You weren’t very versed in human food, but you loved these little chocolate truffle things. They tasted so much better than some of the bagged sweets! Although the pantry humans didn’t get them often… how were YOU supposed to know they were specially ordered all the way from Belgium for the cloud ghoulette? Little did you know your recent trip into the food stores actually had a trap!

The moment you touched the fancy back of candies you heard someone pop out. “AH CAUGHT YOU!! YOU-!! … you don’t belong here.” Normally you’d run but with her blocking the door there was no where to run… and she looked stronger than you. Just when you thought she was about to yell, she started to laugh. “That explains so much! … well, if you were hungry you could have asked!” This is how you found a ghoul ally in the clergy!

Rain: He’s in trouble because it turns out… he has been feeding you for months. You are what he actually considers a close friend now. Rain met you during his many excursions to the creeks and small ponds in the forest around the clergy. There is a huge lake for all the water ghouls but Rain likes his alone time. Imagine his surprise when he jumped into a pond and you came scrambling out. Rain felt bad and tried to make it up to you. Weeks later is when the humans started to spot you getting closer to the clergy walls.

The band Rain started to sneak out more and get really weird whenever anyone mentioned the new monster sightings. His behavior got stranger and stranger when he started hoarding extra snacks that would later disappear. It took half of the band following him out at night to see what he was up to! He ended up getting in trouble with Imperator, but luckily for him you were pretty harmless when left alone! He has to get proper visitation now, but you are happier he always comes with big full meals provided by the humans!

Sunshine: Sunny honestly didn’t know you WEREN’T supposed to be in the buildings. They are so freshly summoned they are still learning about what is considered ‘normal’ to humans and what isn’t. To Sunshine, it made perfect sense there was a supernatural being wandering around for food! They were just happy to meet someone new that smelt fun! On your end? You had been expecting the mixed element ghoul to attack you… not excitedly grab your hand and show you where the GOOD food was.

The band and Papa listened on and on about Sunshine talking about their new friend. None really knowing you were a Cryptid. From how they described you you were just a loner and a bit weird. They begged you be allowed to join them for dinner. Papa agreed just happy his first summoned ghoul was making friends… until you walked in. Everyone just stared in shock but none moved. When sodo tried to point out you were possibly dangerous Sunshine snarled. It was awkward but… everyone in the band just had to except you were there. Papa especially!

Mountain: The drummer actually knew you were in the walls for a while, you just didn’t do anything to make him worried. So what was the point of exposing you? Also, come to find later, he had assumed EVERYONE knew there was a cryptid in wall. Why else were you allowed to stay? (Not everyone knew and many jaws were dropped when Monty casually mentioned it). He was rather indifferent to you taking food… until you picked clean one of his favorite fruit trees. Even the really good fruits at the very top!

One night you were making your rounds when you suddenly felt yourself being lifted off your feet. You froze as you turned to look at the giant ghoul. Monty stared at you for an agonizingly silent minute before speaking gently. “If you take the last fruit you have to let the garden ghouls know.” You nodded , scared and he set you down. And then just.., walked off. You weren’t sure how to feel. But eventually you made a friend in him!

Phantom: Our favorite chaotic ghoul accidentally ran into you while you were scavenging for food! Phantom often likes to disappear into the scary forest surrounding the main clergy Abbey. Specifically at night where he does… well, no one is sure WHAT he does. But the point was is you startled him and he startled you! Neither of you were particularly hostile at each other but more curious. Phantom was VERY interested in what you were and why you were so close to ghoul (and demon) territory. You just wanted to know what a ghoul even was!

Phantom, you found, was incredibly inquisitive and asked you many questions. But when you eventually admitted you were just looking for food he offered to take you home!! You weren’t sure it was a good idea… but when he promised a good meal how could you refuse? The man in the skull face paint wasn’t happy Phantom dragged in an outsider, but everyone was nice none the less. Either way, after being checked out by the other ghouls to make sure you weren’t a threat you were offered a job in exchange for meals. Now you and Phantom are in charge of keeping outsiders from exploring the Forrest!

Aurora: The vocalist thought a lot of the siblings of sin were trying to pull her tail when they claimed they saw a monster in the nearby forest. Who knows what’s out there, but humans tended to get themselves worked up over the littlest shadows in the trees! But when she heard squeals of fright, looked to where siblings were pointing, and saw you walking around the trees… well, she was convinced Aurora isn’t a reckless ghoul, but she is very brave! And she certainly wasn’t going to ignore a cryptid prowling around with vulnerable humans!

She was the first to investigate you and quickly deduced you were harmless. A bit scary to the humans, but you were just hungry! The other guard ghouls came over to see Aurora ushering you inside- much to their chagrin. But who was going to argue with a band ranked ghoul? She happily fed you and introduced you to Copia and Sister Imperator. The only thing keeping her from getting in trouble is that Copia knew what kind of cryptid you were. Now she brings you meals and considers you a friend!

The Ghouls Mate Adopts a Displaced Kit

For a quick recap, ghoul summoning HAS to be done by an experienced and supervised sibling of sin. Many botched summoning are done by new siblings who have no clearance to carry one out. Botched summonings can result in injured ghouls, stolen kits, or even pulling beings that are not ghouls into the clergy…

Aether: The guitarist ghoul was ready to keep the kit immediately when you told him what happened. His only hesitation is that you both could be in big trouble if you didn’t report it. The ministry is very strict on tracking these types of summons. But you were happy to know that Aether was already attached and wanted to keep the little one sooooo badly. Aether just wants to do it the RIGHT way. It’s how you ended up in Papa’s office, with your mate kindly explaining why you had to keep the kit. You and the kit were already attached at the hip, and so was he! Papa was VERY happy for you both and for the baby. “Well, uh, it solves where we must place the little one, yes? Uh… congratulations?”

Phantom: It takes an hour of convincing Phantom that you are completely serious about adopting this random kit. When you first got him and told your mate you wanted to keep the little ghoul he thought you were trying to prank him. Phantom literally thought you had borrowed a kit to try to get one over on him! But when he realizes this ISN’T relation for the prank he pulled on you last week, he’s very quiet. He stays quiet for a very long time and you get nervous this might be the end of your relationship… but he surprises you. “So, what do we name him?” He’s completely unsure of what to do, but he wants to make this work! Phantom insists this is awesome, because he can raise your kit to be a guitarist like him!

Cirrus: You were very nervous about bringing home your new kit. Cirrus hates when you both make big decisions without consulting the other. She was very curious when you brought home a tiny kit, asking why you were baby sitting. You carefully started to explain that the little ghoul was accidentally summoned. But before you could finish it Cirrus came over to take the baby. She immediately clutched the kit protectively, and you remembered the same had happened to her when Air adopted her… “We will protect her with our lives.” She declares before nuzzling into the little ghoul.

Cumulus: Your mate was so supportive when you brought home the kit. She was very confused at first, mind you, until you explained what happened. Cumulus quietly listened as she held the baby ghoul and eventually started rocking the kit to sleep. “Well… he already likes us. We can’t just give him back!” Cumulus’ main concern is that eventually she does have to work and tour. So you both have a big discussion of how your home situation will be when you are left with your kit by yourself. But if you are happy with the arrangement, so is she!

Mountain: To your surprise, Monty barely asked any questions. He just readily accepted that you made the executive decision to adopt. You personally know it’s from his home tribe, where spur of the moment adoptions happened. The drummer is more interested in picking out a name, figuring out the kit’s element, and getting the nest ready for the baby. Mountain already starts gathering spare curtains to make a kit sling for you both to carry her around. You barely have time to blink before your kit is slung against his chest comfortably and he’s out the door to go get supplies!

Swiss: Your kit? You mean OUR KIT!! Swiss loves kits so much, so when you brought one home randomly he had assumed you were baby sitting. The guitarist had the baby in his arms so fast to play and the small ghoul clung to him immediately. He was so wrapped up in playing he nearly didn’t hear that no, you weren’t babysitting! It took you a moment to get his attention and explain… you sorta… kinda just took this one after a botched summoning? Swiss stared at you for a long time before becoming emotional. “You mean… you adopted a family for us?” He’s SO excited and hugs you both. You know he wanted a family after the band but are just excited he’s excited for one a little early!

Rain: At first you thought you had made a mistake when Rain seemed a little sour at first. He had made a face when you told him what happened . But you quickly came to find that he just hates when humans do these vile things. Rain scooped the kit up with your permission and looked at you. “Do you really want to do this? I need to know we are both committed before I get too attached.” Neither of you had discussed starting a family before this. It was time for you two to talk about it and be 100% sure you both were ready for the responsibility. But when you saw the kit fall asleep on Rain, you knew it was meant to be.

Sunshine: They didn’t really know you could just… do that? I mean sure, in Hell you can adopt any kit you find abandoned. But wouldn’t the humans get suspicious if they saw you both with a baby out of no where? Sunshine doesn’t think about it too hard once the baby is in their arms. they’ll explain to Papa and Sister eventually! Sunshine is admittedly a little scared to raise the kit in the human realm. They are still super new to human culture and is scared of raising a kit outside of Hell. But they trust you since you were summoned for way longer! Sunshine wants to introduce the kit to the band as soon as possible!

Aurora: She takes to the kit almost as fast as you did! You both realize later that your kit has quintessence as their element. No wonder! You three bonded so strongly it would be impossible to separate your new family. Aurora is not shy to immediately go to Papa and have a long list of supplies and accommodations you will all need. Papa is bewildered but can’t find it in him to say no to the confident ghoulette and her demands. All you originally wanted was just for your mate to be ok with adopting. But you won’t say no to all of the perks! It’s how she got you both a bigger living quarters, kit supplies, and even new furniture! The only thing you two end up bickering about is names. So far you might compromise on an Opera inspired name.

Sodo/Ember: He’s mad at first. No. NO NO NO NO NO! You can’t just come home with a FAILED SUMMON KIT! You both can get in serious trouble and- one angry look from you kept your fire ghoul from arguing more. But he INSISTS this is YOUR issue, not his! …. Until he realizes the baby is a fire kit… and also really cute… and awww, look at how the kit likes you already. Fine. Sodo eventually relents when it’s his turn to hold the kit and the small ghoul falls asleep in his arms. When you try to take the kit back he pulls away protectively. Eventually you hear a “Fuck you, babe, if you think I’m changing diapers!!”

I love this because all ghouls know what it’s like to learn human languages!

Era V Ghouls with a Sibling of Sin Learning English

Phantom: Everyone expected Phantom to only want to help you learn how to swear, thanks to his mischievous streak. But he’s not THAT much of an ass! Phantom was actually very encouraging to you. He will typically ask if you want to try conversations with him in English to help you get practice in. Phantom will admit he’s not very good at helping teach… but he can get you in with private lessons, via Papa. Yes, he can actually do that. Yes, you’ve gotten to meet Papa because of it who was happy to speak in your native tongue!

Sodo: The guitarist knows your pain very well. English was actually his second language, and a huge pain in his ass. (His first being Swedish based on being summoned in Linkoping.) He’s not really a teaching type outside of music, but he’s happy to help you where he can! Sodo approaches it the way he learned , and that’s just being talked to in English. He’ll always stop when you have questions or ask him to slow down. But having conversations in practical situations slowly helps. The one thing he will personally teach you is how to cuss someone out if you ever need it!

Cirrus: Being raised by Air in the Ministry meant that Cirrus grew up with several languages at once; Ancient Ghoulish, Ghoulish, English, and several other types of human languages. You half expect her to be critical of your growing English, but Cirrus is very complimentary. The more stern ghoulette is always happy to give you constructive feedback. Cirrus is very encouraging of you and lets you know how well you are doing. Learning a new language is tough, after all!

Cumulus: The keyboardist LOVES to help you when you ask her! Cumulus knows that English is a particularly hard language to master to non-native speakers. You were really touched when you found out she went out of her way to try and learn your language, too. She mentions this is because she considers you friend and having someone who knows your language back makes chatting so much easier! Cumulus is always your cheerleader!

Aurora: One of her many tricks she suggests to you is to learn songs in English! This is what helped her back when she was a classically trained opera singer for her first Papa. It’s how she learned more than Italian! You don’t even have to be a singer, that’s the best part! Picking a song you like and mimicking the singers can help with pronunciation and word cadence…. At least according to Aurora. Aurora is always happy to help read or offers to translate for you when she can. You find that you both sing together these days!

Swiss: The guitarist definitely startled you when you first spoke to him, as he knows your mother tongue! Swiss excels at picking up languages! It helps that he was raised with several ghoulish dialects, so to him you learn one you learn them all! Since you are buddies, Swiss loves to help you learn where he can. He doesn’t really like textbook learning languages, it’s too formal. He’s helped you with more natural conversation structure and understanding things like common English sayings or colloquialisms.

Aether: Taking over as the next Omega Ghoul meant Aether needed to master a LOT of human languages. You were delighted to know he had a pretty decent grasp of your mother tongue! That made him a perfect tutor for you! Aether adores helping where he can. He’s happy to help you learn whatever you want! You both converse in both your native language AND casual English.

Sunshine: Being a new summon, Sunshine understands completely! Their English has gotten better, but they still heavily lean on Ghoulish and nonverbal cues to communicate. You two basically have bonded trying to learn English together! Sunshine has a tough time with Grammar and writing, but you’ve help them too where you could. You both practice conversations together and attend lessons given by the ministry. It’s brought you both super close to each other. You’ve even learned a little ghoulish from them, and you’ve taught Sunshine some of your own mother tongue!

Rain: many people don’t know that Rain was actually an archivist before he was ever a band ghoul; so he knows quite a few human languages! The bassist knows where the best work books are if you ever wanted to practice writing and sentence structure! Rain offers to get you access to Papa I’s teaching notes and any supplementary work you need! You find he’s actually a natural teacher as well and you sometimes meet with him during lunch to practice!

Mountain: At first you thought the drummer didn’t speak English because he was so quiet. But Monty is just a naturally quiet and friendly ghoul. He bluntly compliments that your English is very good for a beginner. Monty knows how passionate you are about learning, so you found that he’s been secretly hoarding learning materials for you. It’s how you received several really really helpful books and personalized notes from Papa! He’s so excited to give you everything he’s gathered for you!
