So, at the end of The Day of the Doctor, each Doctor goes back to his original timeline, therefore Ten goes back to Elizabeth I. But what does he exactly remember of the whole thing? Does he remember marrying her? He shouldn’t, because Eleven and the War Doctor were there too. So, Ten goes back to Elizabeth I, and she’s like: "Welcome back, my beloved husband! Where are your acolytes, Grampa, Chinny, and the girl in miniskirt?… Anyway, now put on this preposterous period costume, and pose for our super-secret family portrait. And then shag me, so you can make puns about me not being the virgin queen anymore." And Ten’s like: "I don’t have the first idea of what the fuck you’re talking about, I don’t even really like you, for what I remember you’re a Zygon… but whatever, I’m going to shag you anyway because reasons." It doesn’t make any sense.
In Journey’s End, Ten tries to save Davros, and gets mad at Tentoo for destroying the Daleks. In The Day of the Doctor, he cheers gleefully at their destruction. In The End of Time, Ten is horrified at the Time Lords returning, and fiercely willing to do whatever it takes to send them back to hell. In The Day of the Doctor, he’s so happy to save them he’s grinning ecstatically, and jumping around with joy. In The Day of the Doctor, Ten is so blatantly out of character, sometimes I really believe he was a Zygon copy. And the Zygon and the Moment were working for Rassilon to trick the War Doctor into saving Gallifrey, as they were Rassilon’s B-plan all along. And thanks to Eleven, the plan worked.
Headcannon accepted. His characterization in the Day of the Doctor pissed me off so much!
that Elizabeth I theory in full
- Both Elizabeths in The Day of the Doctor were Zygons.
- The Zygons wanted to trick the Doctor into doing something for them, so copied Elizabeth as a honeytrap. They then copied her again, the intention being that the Doctor wouldn’t expect both of them to be copies and if one copy got discovered then the second one could still finish the job.
- Whatever the Zygons wanted the Doctor to do required him to be King of England and Wales. (Not prince-consort, given the time period. And not Scotland, since the thrones weren’t united until James I.)
- The real Elizabeth I has met the Tenth Doctor only once - in The Shakespeare Code.
- However. Upon returning to court from wherever she’d been during Day of the Doctor, Elizabeth was informed that she had been there all along and had married a man known as the Doctor, who was now King. She was shown the painting as evidence.
- Elizabeth now had to fight to convince her courtiers that an imposter had taken her place and that she still had full rights to her hard-won kingdom. She ordered search parties sent out to find the imposter Elizabeth and the ‘king’, but neither was ever found.
- Until, that is, many years later the Queen went to view the opening performance of Love’s Labours Won, and there he was. The man she’d been hunting all these years, the man who had nearly taken her throne from her…
