Obviously this is an adorable bit but I'm so struck by how different this is from so many little kid shows today like.......the muted colors. no background noise. no sound effects. you can literally hear Jim Henson breathing between his lines. Ernie is talking very slowly, meandering, letting the kids digest the info. it's a full minute before you get the payoff of it all. man

I spent way too much time wondering if I should change "Farm boy" to "Farm frog" but farm boy just sounded better.
I intended to draw Kermit with the same expression Westley has in the film, but it's hard to resist giving Kermit at least a slight smile. So let's just say he's smiling because he genuinely appreciates Piggy's compliment.
So, right after posting the previous drawing one of my Instagram followers (Thank you C_Robinns!) pointed out a line of Piggy's from the Muppet Show describing Kermit's eyes and I am immediately forced to acknowledge that THIS is the far superior version of this scene (Seriously how perfect is this line??).
the way sesame street, a pbs puppet show for literal babies, is pressing on with pride content despite vitriolic monsters descending on every post to insinuate they're pedophiles or demons while some of the biggest companies on the planet who could swim in olympic swimming pools of money like scrooge mcduck on steroids buckle and cave just emphasizes how completely and utterly pathetic these corporations are. they'd butcher a baby if it meant saving a penny.

Jim Henson supported his openly queer colleagues in the 1970s! The Muppet performer Richard Hunt was majorly influential on Sesame Street, the Muppet Show, and Fraggle Rock.
They also dumped Chick-fil-A in 2012 when CFA made their stance on gay marriage known.
It would be a dishonor to their memories for the Jim Henson Company to kowtow to queerphobic demands when their namesake always stood for diversity and acceptance of everyone, and it makes me proud to be a Muppet fan to see that insisted upon 💖🌈

Kermit doesn't represent an independent corporate managerial layer over labor; this is a self-managing theater troupe. Kermit Thee Frog may be in charge, nominally, but it just means he's the one at the bottom, where all the shit flows downhill to. The stars, in this paradigm, are (a) the ones who cause the shit, and (b) the ones away from whom it all flows. It's a much older paradigm, with lots of people in the middle to shovel the shit around.
Oh yeah, to be clear I mean "stage manager" in the theater sense, as you describe, not as "he's management." I have said before that he doesn't really want that job, but he knows a) it's a necessary job for the show to go on and b) everyone else would be worse at it.
Look at the end of the Muppet Movie where he marches straight into Orson Welles's office and demands a contract, though. He absolutely plays old pro-union folk songs on that banjo.

They say that Michael Caine did so well in Muppet Christmas Carol because he treated the Muppets like fellow actors, and Tim Curry did so well in Muppet Treasure Island because he treated himself like a fellow Muppet.
I’d say this counts as strong evidence toward that theory.
