Here is a small tutorial on how to get hair coloring done !

① Line drawing ② Paint the basic color ③ Add a layer with "Multiply" blending mode and start painting the first layer of shadow ④ Add another layer with "Multiply" blending mode and paint darker shadow ⑤ Add a layer with "ADD" blending mode and paint the first primary light with the air brush ⑥ Add a last layer with "ADD" blending mode and paint the hard light with a hard brush

All of that is done with only one color ! You do not need to change to darker or lighter color. It will change automatically with different layer blending mode.
