Context: this is a very common viewpoint on the ao3 subreddit which I very recently stumbled upon, but most people i’m friends with in danmei fandom (twt, discord etc) don’t agree and think negative bookmarks are rude.
#reader/writer. it's a little complicated but my final answer is 'i guess?'#long answer is: complaints are for private bookmarks#if you fucking hate a fic or it wasn't to your liking why are you even bookmarking it in the first place. move on#all my bookmarks are private and i do leave complaints on some but i only bookmark shit i like and want to reread#my 'negative bookmarks' involve me gushing about the fic and then either nitpicking useless trivia#or warning my future self that a specific scene was like a bit of a slog or something. or the author has bad grammar/spelling/formatting#at the end of the day i dont bookmark it if i dont like it#i can be a hater but it is a temporary state. i am at my heart a lover and i bookmark shit that makes me smile#you should probably do the same instead of pinning fics you hate made for free by strangers to your page#like look. would you tag someone's art on here with 'this looks like fucking shit and i hate it' or would you just keep scrolling?#maybe do the same for fics as they too are hobby art 💀
