Question for Pagans and Polytheists
A SUGGESTION
stop calling ancient gods and traditions mythology, lots of people still practice it.
The majority of pagans and polytheists I’ve known refer to our own religious stories as myths, though. In the context of literature and religion, “mythology” doesn’t mean “complete bullshit.” It’s a particular type of story meant to illustrate truths that aren’t necessarily scientific or historical. I’ve yet to meet a Norse Heathen that believes the earth was literally licked out of the ice by an actual cosmic cow, for example, and so mythology is the correct term there.
That said, some Christians in the “but our texts really are literal history!” camp` do need to chill when the phrase “Christian mythology” is used in the same manner.
Agreed. I think the real problem is when you get one group's religious texts being treated as myth while another group religious text is treated as fact.
I'm all for pagan myths staying myths cus like, ya know, I don't really think that some guy named Lugh dies and comes back to life every year with the harvest, I think that's probably just a metaphor for something else like most religious text is, but I am gonna take offense if someone tries to tell me that their deity that got resurrected is real, and my diety that gets resurrected isn't.
So yeah, pagan mythos is mythos, it's just that the Christian mythos is mythos as well whether Christian's like that or not.
Three Simple Ways to Celebrate Samhain
not all of us have the lore, tools, ability, or spoons to go the whole nine yards. here are the most basic (and still fully valid!) ways you can celebrate the holiday. you can do one, two, or all three, up to you. 1. eat or drink something with apple, pumpkin, or pomegranate 2. take a walk outside and reflect on Autumn (it’s okay if you lack the ability or spoons to do this) 3. remember the dead
that’s it.
Mabon’s coming up and idk what to do for it help
Mabon is the autumn equinox, so celebrate all things fall! Decorate with oranges, yellows, and reds. Lay protective spells on your home. Do a harvest rite.
For food, this website has great recipes for each sabbat. Here’s their mabon page: http://recipesforapagansoul.weebly.com/mabon-sept-20-23.html
