Mel Odius Goes Six-String Searchin' (In-browser, DOS, Worwyk Software, 1992)

You can play it in your browser here, or if in-browser emulation isn't working yet, you can download it as a .zip file here and run it in this alternate in-browser emulator.

Tips for that alternate emulator: for this game, choose any item on the list you're given, then on the next screen, replace the line under AUTOEXEC with these three lines with nothing in between (click the line to start editing; press enter to add second line):

CD MELODIUS

PLAYGAME

Another tip: if the alternate emulator's page is blank, refresh it properly with Ctrl-F5.

The developer, Worwyk, went on to become a heavy metal band that's still active; its website is here.

Perfect Day For Murder - Day 1 (Windows, Jedware Productions, 1995)

Don't bother with the in-browser emulator, whether or not it's working again. Instead, downlaod the .zip file under 'DOWNLOAD OPTIONS, unzip it, put VBRUN100.DLL from here in the same folder, and drag the game onto otvdm.dll from here. You'll need to resize the game window a bit wider.

Despair (Classic Mac, Lloyd Burchill, 1992/1997/1999)

The game/toy that answers the question: what's it like to be a jealous god? You can download version 1.6 from here as Despair.sit, and run it on modern systems via these instructions:

  1. Run this Infinite Mac in-browser emulator.
  2. Drag Despair.sit onto the emulated desktop.
  3. Open The Outside World, then Downloads, and open the file you find these.
  4. If nothing appears afterward, close and re-open Downloads.
  5. Run the game.

Fun fact: one of the spawnable items is a 'cziltang brone', or osmosis generator, a device enabling movement through solid matter from Larry Niven's Ringworld books.

The Shadow President/CyberJudas Duology (DOS, D.C. True, 1993/1996)

You can downlaod them here, or download them packaged to run on Windows here.

If in-browser emulation has returned, you can play CyberJudas in your browser here.

Natsuyasumi - kogane no kabutomushi o sagashite aka Summer Vacation - Search for the Golden Beetle (Classic Mac, 1991)

You can download it at Natsuyasumi.sit here; you can find the game's Japanese manual (and an alternate download for the game if the Internet Archive is still down) here. Important instructions below. I believe in you!

Instructions:

  1. Drag the .sit file onto the emulated Japanese Mac desktop here.
  2. Open the Outside World, then Downloads, then open the file you find and wait for it to be decompressed; then close Downloads and open it again.
  3. Open the folder you'll find. Drag the six files in there onto Macintosh HD (they'll be copied). Open Macintosh HD if you haven't already; scroll and/or resize it if necessary.
  4. Open Infinite HD, then Utilities, then Disc Copy (set language to English the first time to make things easier), then drag each of the six files from Macintosh HD onto it (since just double-clicking them won't work). A disk will appear on the desktop for each one.
  5. Make a new folder in Macintosh HD (using the first item under the first non-Apple-logo menu) and name it anything or just leave the name there.
  6. Open each of the six disks that appeared on the desktop; each will contain a single file. Drag each resulting file into the new folder you made (again, they'll be copied), then open the folder (scrolling/resizing as necessary) and run 'Natu key'. Click the white words to begin; you can click the NORMAL turtle first to switch to EASY mode.
  7. If you can't read Japanese, use Google Lens, or on a PC browser, use Google Images via the 'Search by image' icon, and paste a screenshot (though you'll probably need to crop it down to just the text in Paint or similar first), then click Translate.

Time Travelers - Adventure One Demo (Windows 3.1, Gruffy Ink, 1993)

You can download it here. Important instructions below.

Instructions:

  1. Drag the installer onto otvdm.exe from here and install the game, remembering the chosen location. (Choose 'No' when prompted about backups during installation. You can click 'Cancel' when prompted to create a program group; it will say the installation was aborted by the game will still be in the chosen location.)
  2. Download VBRUN300.DLL from here, WAVE1.VBX from here and MHOP200.VBX and MHRUN500.DLL from here (use Ctrl+F to find the latter three).
  3. Drag the four downloaded files into the same folder as the game (not the shortcut created if you created a program group).
  4. Drag the game onto otvdm.exe. When a white message appears, click it; if not happens, wait a moment and click it again. After if disappears, wait a moment for the actual program to open.

This would not have been possible without the excellent Discmaster site.

Bandit (Windows 3.1, The Wicked Witch Software Company, 1991/1992)

You can play version 1.5 in your browser here, or download version 2.0 here and run it on modern Windows using otvdm (note: when closing it, you may get an error, but don't worry, it's harmless).

You are using an unsupported browser and things might not work as intended. Please make sure you're using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge.
