We were posted by the official Katsucon tumblr?! Ahhh, I love it! I am Lady Loki, (This is my cosplay page) and Lady Thor is the ever-talented Lady Everspark
Recently, I've had at least two or three people say to me about themselves, "I don't have the skills to make my own cosplay."
Now if you choose to buy your cosplay because of this, that's absolutely fine. I'm not saying one way is better than another, cosplay is a personal experience. This post isn't about that.
But saying you don't have the skill to make your own cosplay is silly. NOBODY gets into cosplay with the skills necessary to be a great cosplayer. Nobody. Every great cosplayer started out being a shitty cosplayer.
When you look at a fantastic cosplayer, and you think to yourself, "Wow, I could never be that good," just remember: That cosplayer once made a costume that was too small to fit, and once they stitched a costume inside-out, and once they butchered a wig beyond all repair, and once they broke their prop the night before the convention. Don't put yourself down because you think someone else is better - they went through exactly the same stuff you're going through. They never thought they'd ever be a good cosplayer either. And look at them now.
It won't happen overnight - but as long as you keep at it, you are ALWAYS improving. And you WILL be great.
Remember to challenge yourself. With every costume you make, try a new technique or advance a skill you already have. Never quit because you think you 'don't have the skill' - and before you know it, you'll be the cosplayer someone else is wishing they were.

So gaywalrus ran this panel at Katsucon and we had to write out Homestuck confessions But I'm not Homestuck I was only there as staff So I wrote about the time I was cosplaying Sebastian without pants on and I made out with Gamzee in a public park while rubbing each other's horns. Dear Anonymous Dual Badger. When you came to me saying that you were upset, that you were ending your life that weekend. I do not know why you came to me. We talked for a while until your staff was angry for talking to you. I gave you my business card and my spare badge (registration mixups ftw) before you got pulled back by your staff through the human Berlin Wall, hiding what I gave you, and you ran quickly.
I hope you are alive and have hope in your life.

As a BBYO IC attendee, I’m very upset to see the bashing going on under the ‘bbyo’ tag. I understand that there must have been issues, but of that, which do we know is the honest truth? The internet muddles up the truth and transforms it until it’s not recognizable anymore. I honestly had a lovely...
My experience with BBYO attendees was fine, I did have at least one group of girls ask me for photos which was really great. However, I heard through fellow staffers, not through the internet, that there were some serious harassment issues that arose. And that's not the fault of either group, but rather, the fault of the few individuals who don't realize that while bullying is often overlooked in high schools, out in the real world it's a different story. And I am encouraging everyone who had a harassment issue to file a formal complaint with the hotel, so that steps can be taken to prevent this type of thing from occurring in the future. But bashing an entire group of people, on either side, is absolutely childish and unnecessary, and I hope people will see that.

As a Katsucon staffer this year, I'm so sorry to hear about your con experience being ruined this way, and I (and many of my fellow staffers, I'm sure) ABSOLUTELY support your decision to file a formal complaint with the hotel. They treated our entire convention as second-class citizens the whole weekend, they blocked and harassed our staff as well as our attendees, and they generally were much less hospitable than anyone in the hospitality business has any right to be. To anyone else reading this, if you had an issue this past weekend with either the BBYO convention attendees/staff, or the hotel staff, PLEASE PLEASE do file a formal complaint with the hotel. Too many things are going unreported from our side and we should try to prevent this type of thing from happening again, because as Raidou says, it's absolutely unacceptable.

What did you guys think of Katsucon this year? I've never been to this con, but it was a lot of fun! I met so many great people, I sat in on a few late-night panels during my shift (the anthropomorphic horse porn, oh my goodness) and I had people actually come up to me and tell me they recognized me from Tumblr (WUT!). And the Rise of the Guardians photo meetup was awesome, I loved hanging out with you guys! (Until you went outside. D: Pitch in a silk robe isn't going anywhere outside in the middle of February, nope. XDDD) Staffing was great and I'd love to do it next year too. AND I GOT TO MEET HAMLETMACHINE AGAIN AND I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE HER AT OTAKON. I LOVE THIS WOMAN. I AM SO COSPLAYING AS CAIN THIS SUMMER. *ahem* So, how was your experience with Katsucon this year? Of course, I really want to hear about your experience with the staff, if you had any, because as a first-time staffer, I'm curious to hear how we did. XD I always hear people complain about con staff, so whether your experience was good or bad, I'd love to hear about it. :3 Thanks for coming and I hope to see you all next year! :D

HOLY SHIT I'M ON TUMBLR ALREADY. HELLO LOVELY FEARLINGS. Yeah this is where I realized that not having a weapon meant that I had no idea what to do for a pose. So Sassy!Pitch happened.
Best reaction to my Pitch cosplay so far: *points at gold epaulets* "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT TO US. IT'S LIKE PITCH REMEMBERING BEING KOZMOTIS. WHY WOULD YOU. OH GOD THE FEELS. THE FEEEEEEEELLLLLSSSSS!!!!"
