everyone go enable this immediately. it can be a bit hard to find because “visibility is under blog settings instead of general settings or privacy. you have to do this individually for each separate side-blog

if you can’t find it on the app then the update probably hasn’t rolled out to you, and you’ll have to go through the web browser. what a truly wild way/time to implement this

In all seriousness though---

Korra got a ton---and I mean a TON---of hate, for daring to be a headstrong, non-genderconforming woman of color. So forgive me if I don't react well to "korrasami doesn't deserve it"

Korra already fought through enough misogyny and racism while it was actively airing. She already got enough criticism for not being the "target audience" of 8-12 age males who buy action figures. She already got enough criticism for having flaws as a woman, for not "acting ladylike". She already got enough criticism for not being white or white passing in a show that has ZERO white characters. So when you come at korrasami fans with "they don't deserve it"? Don't be surprised when korrasami fans look at it with a lens of suspicion, because korrasami already fought through the criticism, already fought through being stuck in the "dead slot" air time in nickelodeon (which they were moved to in season three, when the show runners actively started hinting at a wlw ship), already fought through being pulled off air and onto online viewing only, in 2014, for those of you who are a bit young. (Obergefell vs Hodges, the Supreme Court case which legalized gay marriage nationwide in the US, happen on June 26, 2016). "They only held hands in the finale" because that's all they could get away with at the time. They were the FIRST. Bubbeline came later. Rupphire came later. Catradora came later. There are still no notable mlm ships in children's media, so the work ISN'T done. Korrasami fans "screech and yell" at you for not understanding because you accuse them of "queerbaiting" without understanding that they were the FIRST in their time to OPENLY hint at being gay on a a children's television network. In a time, for most intents and purposes in the US, being gay was still ILLEGAL.

And by the way? The Owl House, a recent, animatec children's show on Disney, was recently canceled for not being "the Disney brand". It features a bisexual woman of color (in an EXPLICITLY wlw relationship) as the main character, not unsimilar to Korra. Misogyny is not dead. Homophobia is not dead. Know your history, and know the work isn't done.

I love how Tamsyn Muir was like, in this world everybody’s totally cool about gender and sexuality, but there’s a new invented binary that’s culturally and religiously defining and dictates who people are allowed to love and/or fuck and the roles they play in society.

They’ve written volumes and volumes of religious texts about how to conform to these sacred binary roles and filthy porn about people fulfilling or breaking the stereotypes of these roles. The role a person fulfills is determined before they’re born and dictates every aspect of their life. Once in a while someone who’s supposed to be on one side of the socioreligious binary is born more suited to the other side and has to hide it all their life (Coronabeth). Sometimes people fall in love in a way the socioreligious binary declares blasphemous and they decide to love each other openly anyway, and it shocks and scandalizes people no matter how wholesome and lovely and mundane their relationship is (Abigail and Magnus).

And these sacred binary roles are not equal, oh no, as much as the religious doctrine crows the importance of both roles, one is supposed to sacrifice endlessly and unquestioningly for the other, body, mind, and soul. And these binary roles have existed for ten thousand years and were created by God and underlie the whole structure of the universe! But here’s the secret: there was a time before this sacred binary existed, and God is just Some Guy who made this shit up.

House of Hunger: My Immediate Reaction

House of Hunger is a gothic horror novel by Alexis Henderson about a "young woman [who] is drawn into the upper echelons of a society where blood is power" (literally).

  • That was absolutely nerve-wracking. I can't recall a book where I said "I hate this" as much as House of Hunger.
  • I absolutely loathed Marion's (the MC's) jealous streak as it hit way too fucking close to home for me. Like in the exact things it was about and ways it was depicted. I hated it so much and it made me so uncomfortable reading it.
  • I am genuinely struggling to think of things that I actively liked. I can't even think of any specific moments the book hooked me in. I mean I am gay and do immensely enjoy the inherent homoeroticism of partaking in another woman's blood (vampires and such are really fucking hot, sue me).
  • And yeah, Lisavet's (the totally-not-a-vampire's) hunger and violent nature and the blood were hot, sure. But at the end of the day she was like, actually evil and not hot evil :(
  • And Marion's jealousy made it really difficult for me to like her, but I did still end up feeling bad for her and, to use American vernacular, was rooting for her.
  • Lisavet's description of rubbing her hands clean after killing her father was particularly evocative of Lady Macbeth's "Out damn spot" monologue from Macbeth, but honestly the whole book kinda gave me Macbeth vibes, if it was gayer and hornier and everyone's ambitions were confined to one house and not all of Scotland. Chapter 31 also reminded me of the end sequence from The Shining.
  • But yeah, that was horrifying. 4/5

Fuck me I really need a pallet cleanser rn

The Dragon and Her Thief: A Review

The Dragon and Her Thief is a sapphic 🌶️ romantacy by Ariel Marie between a dragon and, well, a thief.

  • Was dumb and fun, but got really cheesy and tacky at times (I don't know what I was expecting, but still).
  • Characters were kinda bland - I didn't have much reason to care about them - and felt like they were defined by dragons hoard stuff and are possessive and dommy and not that.
  • My biggest issue was that, to me, the way the characters were described and the spicy scenes were written felt like "lesbian porn" for men, rather than an authentic sapphic experience.
  • The concept and dragon lore were fun, and would be cool if it was explored with characters with more personality and more of an ongoing story.
  • But yeah, I wanted lesbian dragon smut, and I got lesbian dragon smut, so I can't really complain too much.
