Settlers: Science is inherently contradictory to any form of religion or spirituality or mysticism. Real science rejects all of that.

Indigenous scientists: I take inspiration from traditional stories and ceremonies to learn how to interact with the world, and with my work as a scientist, in a meaningful and positive way. I don't see my scientific beliefs as contradicting my spiritual ones, and in fact, as we learn and discover more with Western science, it just seems to continually validate what my people have passed down for millennia.

When people ask me whether I'm religious, spiritual, or believe in the supernatural, I'll say that I don't actively believe in anything, but I try to keep an open mind. And by this, I mean that I'd consider the existence of supernatural entities to be more plausible than the idea of a walrus capable of operating an elevator.
