shout out to my fellow pansexual siblings who:

  • are constantly forgotten/overlooked by the LGBT+ community
  • consistently have to defend the existence of their sexuality
  • are accused of actually being bisexual but want to be “special”
  • are shunned/berated by others in the LGBT+ community when in a hetero relationship
  • are represented in the media even less than other sexualities
  • never see “PANSEXUALITY 👏IS 👏VALID” on their dash or any other positive messages specifically for pansexuality (as an afterthought we’re sometimes tacked onto bisexuality, which, yknow, ISN’T THE SAME THING.)
  • have to explain, in depth, their sexuality to every person they come out to (isn’t that just bisexuality???)

You are valid. Your sexuality matters just as much as the others in LGBT+. You belong in the LGBT+ community. And I love each and every one of you. 💖💛💙

ps: obvi I’m not shitting on ANY positive shout-out posts for bisexuality/aces/aros/etc. those are much needed. I just haven’t seen a single positive post specifically about pansexuality since pride month began. and everytime a pansexual person tries to include themselves in other pride posts I see people berating them - THIS ISN’T ABOUT YOU. MAKE YOUR OWN POST. so hey, that’s what I’m doing

Something I never want to deal with ever again as an m-spec person: any and all bi/pan/ply/omni headcanons inevitably getting slammed with the ‘COMPULSORY HETEROSEXUALITY!!!’ accusation in this shit-pit, to the point where, whenever I see an m-spec headcanon, I say to myself: ‘shriekers incoming in 3… 2… 1….’

I am a pansexual woman and I am not a fucking product of ‘compulsory heterosexuality’. I am a pansexual woman and I deserve more than meager breadcrumbs of representation and my joy in fandoms getting consistently shat on by selfish fucks who wouldn’t know what ‘intra-community solidarity’ was even if it bit them on the arse!

if people could stop framing the pan/bi thing as “some people choose to identify as bi and some choose to identify as pan” that’d be great.

because that framing makes it seem like all pan and bi people consider both labels as “options” for them.

of course, some people feel they’re interchangeable or similar enough that they could identify as either or both.

but some people feel they aren’t interchangeable or similar enough, and that only one is even considerable.

for me, bi was never an option because I never related to it or felt represented by it, because I’m just not bi. so, no. I didn’t choose pan over bi. I didn’t decide I like pan better for whatever reason. I just am pan. just like some bi people are just bi, and pan isn’t even considerable for them.

along with this is another thing I’d like stopped: people putting emphasis on choosing bi to honor bi history.

because that framing makes it seem like those who don’t identify as bi are insulting or disrespecting or ignoring bi history.

I don’t have to be bi to honor and respect bi history. me not identifying as bi does not mean I’m disrespecting bi and its history and community. it just means I’m not bi. it’s quite literally that simple.

all in all. some people feel they could identify as either bi or pan, but choose one over the other (or both). some people feel it isn’t a choice, they just are bi or just are pan, and the other isn’t even considerable. identifying as one label does mean you’re not honoring or celebrating the history of other labels.

As a queer person that mostly has queer ships, I do not appreciate the idea that some gay ships “are for straight people, if you know what I mean”. No, I do not know what you mean and I don’t care either. Stop judging gender and sexuality of people over ships, you gazoos.

Yeah that’s probably my least favorite “joke/meme” that’s going around right now. Like sure, there are queer ships I don’t like. But saying ships you don’t like are for “straight people” in an obviously pejorative way is not a good look. I already get called “straight” enough for being a bisexual in relationship with a man. I don’t need more people to invalidate my sexuality because of my shipping choices.

#this goes for ‘straight ships for straight people’ too#it’s not funny#stop it#I’m tempted to call it a microagression#but maybe that’s too strong a word for it#it’s certainly invalidating This is actually the exact definition of a microagression, something that is not outright hateful or discriminatory but still slowly chips away your soul, mental health and wellbeing because you keep encountering it and keep being affected by it as someone that is part of a marginalized community. Biphobia online hasn’t stopped being a thing for people to make jokes like that without just reinforcing it.

shoutout to all the pan people who struggle to find characters to relate to and see their identity represented in, because writers refuse to write pan characters and say they’re pan on screen.

shoutout to all the pan people who find characters they relate to and see their identity in, but those characters are never celebrated for being pan, because fans and media erase or ignore their pansexuality.

shoutout to all the pan people who struggle to find validation in their pan headcanons/interpretations, because hardly anyone has pan headcanons and pretty much everyone just assumes unlabeled multisexual characters are bi.

shoutout to all these pans, because y’all deserve fair, explicit, celebrated representation and validation and support for your headcanons.
