My take on the walrus knocking on your door versus a fairy knocking on your door thing is that I don't believe in magic or fairies whatsoever and I'd still be more surprised by the walrus. A fairy knocking on my door means I've made one bad assumption about how the world works; a walrus knocking on my door – in Saskatchewan, in February – means I'm wrong about a great many things.
As an aside, I feel like a lot of the folks on the "anyone who wouldn't find the fairy more surprising is a superstitious moron" side of the argument are operating under – or, at least, have chosen to adopt – a very particular set of assumptions about what a "fairy" in order to justify that position. "The fairy is obviously more surprising because its existence would oblige us to rewrite all of biology and physics" no, it absolutely would not. A fairy on my doorstep is one data point, my guy. Upending one's entire understanding of the universe on the basis of a single isolated observation is not how we do things. Walruses, on the other hand? We know how walruses work, and this isn't it!
Look.
I'm a middle-aged trans queer.
There's a fairy on my doorstep multiple times a day, minimum.
It's not my fault the poll didn't specify.
People like to talk about "wholesome" art like it's the antithesis of sexually explicit media, but to be frank, some of the most genuinely wholesome and emotionally upliftng art I've ever seen has been art where somebody has their dick out.
For the benefit of all the weirdos in the notes who are determined to twist this around into an anodyne remark about "tasteful artistic nudity", I'm talking about art which depicts people fucking.
This is still one of the greatest things ever made.

*going to a festival that celebrates what has for a long time been considered sexual degeneracy by society* Oh boy I sure hope I don’t encounter anything that society views as sexually degenerate!

And then came out
i cant wait for the day boys arent scared to kiss another boy in the streets or on the bus, in the school halls, in the mall, or anywhere in public where people can see. mlm deserve to love freely and openly without fear.

like jesus fuck dude. i’m so FUCKING tired of having to listen to straight people talk about how a gay romance or a trans character should ~add to the story~ as if straight romances and cis characters have ever had to have a reason to exist
having consensual sex with someone without being romantically involved with them is not inherently wrong, immoral, predatory, abusive, or anything negative at all.
this does not change if the person having the sex is aromantic.
sex shaming aromantic people for having sex with people they’re not romantically attracted to or involved with is not any more acceptable than sex shaming someone who is not aromantic for having sex without romantic attachment would be.
if you’re happy to shame aromantic people where you would never shame people who aren’t aromantic for doing the same thing, then you’re arophobic. and if you’re happy to shame anyone who has sex with people they’re not romantically involved with, then you need to drag your puritanical ass back to wherever you docked the mayflower and sail the hell away – either way, you’re the one in the wrong here.
"Why are you hornyposting, you never hornypost" buddy, I hornypost all the time. It's just I'm usually hornyposting about dicks, and everybody assumes I'm doing a bit because Tumblr has the sexual mores of a Roman senator and regards men sucking dick as a form of comedy.
While that's definitely true, I feel it's worth noting that it's not just MLM who get the "we will respect you if and only if you exclusively top" treatment around here; obviously I can't speak from first-hand experience, but the way this site talks about WLW bottoms often feels like it's going pretty far beyond the boundaries of friendly ribbing, too.
In light of another queer show cancellation:
You can express anger at WLW media being treated poorly without tearing down MLM media. I've already seen "why doesn't Netflix cancel the cringey MLM shit instead" takes, and that is not okay. It wouldn't somehow be better if it was an MLM show getting cancelled, because it would be just as rooted in homophobia.
WLW media being cancelled is not the fault of queer men, it's the fault of societal and corporate homophobia. MLM deserve to be represented and deserve to enjoy MLM media. You don't have to tear down what little there is of that in order to make your points about WLW media. MLM aren't stealing the representation from you.
We are not in competition with each other. We do not fight over scraps. Express your rage at the right targets. Don't be a jackass just because you're angry.
