I’ve been seeing some SMC III/eternal gifs on my dash and it reminds me the painful reality that is the massive character change that happened to Haruka in the 90s anime for some specific things, and one of those is parenting Hotaru

in the manga/crystal, when Michiru said “this girl is now alone we have to raise her” Haruka was beside her, accepting this duty, along with Michiru and Setsuna, and she was part of the parenting.

in the 90s when Michiru said something along the lines “how nice it would be for us to live together raising Hotaru” (Setsuna was not in the picture) Haruka’s response was so negative, like as if Michiru had said something insane. and then they parked the kid back to her abusive father. And later on Setsuna just stole the baby and made harumichi co-parent. of which we got the feeling that it was setsuna who did all the parenting, michiru did absolute ZERO and Haruka just read Hotaru some stories,

while in the manga all 3 had set responsibilities, setsuna was the educator, Michiru on feeding and dressing, and Haruka on dippers and play time duty. We actively see them do those things. Michiru also teaches Hotaru how to play the violin, which was scrapped from the 90s.

so yeah. some changes make me angry and some others are just painful.

The fictional “Aurora ♥ Wedding” manga created by Marie Buraidaru in the Codename: Sailor V manga was very clearly a reference to the Sailor Moon series - just compare the panel of “Aurora ♥ Wedding” on the left to the image from the third artbook on the right, for one example.
