Fun fact from Wannyanpuu’s deleted pixiv fanbox (2017/01/24): her fanmade Kagerou Daze MV was partly inspired by 2nd OP of Mawaru Penguindrum. In particular, she tried to imitate its hair animation.
On another note, apparently there are official school uniform designs:
So the insane instrumental in the middle wasn’t transcribed. This song would’ve been up almost two weeks ago if I hadn’t kept attempting to figure it out. 4.5/5 difficulty with melody, about 4.6 with instrumental.

Jin : Otsukimi Recital. “I believe, because it’s you”, the lyrics are personally my favorite. People who listen to it, thank you. Please look forward the album.
Translation of Jin’s commentary for Otsukimi Recital, from the booklet included in the limited edition version of Mekaku City Records.

Otsukimi Recital!!!
And it seems that Wannyanpuu was the one handling the PV!
@jin_jin_suruyo: シングルカップリングの「群青レイン」を気に入ってくれた方多くて嬉しい。一番好きな曲でして。
Jin: I’m happy there are many people that like the coupling song, “Gunjou Rain,” since it’s the song I like the most.
I came in a few minutes late, but he was practicing some of his songs! Shinigami Record, Gunjou Rain, Headphone Actor, Konoha no Sekai Jijou, Toumei Answer, and also Sky of Beginning and Ishifuro’s Yuugure Sensei at the end.
Namahousou that Jin held with Ishifuro today since Headphone Actor reached one million views! Next is probably Konoha no Sekai Jijou~?
Soralon Rajio after three months~
He sang a bit, and took some polls asking people which they preferred (Dogs vs cats, Pocky vs Pretz etc) and always ended up as the minority vote. And plus a lot of people were using points to promote the housou– I think by the end it was 19,000? When it reached 15,000– he said that that was enough for his food expenses for a month. (since the number of points are proportional to amount in yen)
@jin_jin_suruyo: りゅうせー「目をあ~わ~せ~ないで」わんにゃんぷー「あれ?なんでしたっけその曲!聴いたことありますー!!」
Jin: Ryuusei “Me wo a~wa~se~naide” (Don’t meet my eyes) Wannyanpuu: “Huh? What was that song again?! I’ve heard it before–!!”
Now I wonder if Rei going to a private Catholic school has any relation to her mother dying and her father not being in the picture.
And Makoto lives alone after the death of her parents, but there is no mention of her ever being in an orphanage. I have always wondered about Makoto’s situation. I always figured relatives, like an aunt and uncle or grandparents, pay for her living expenses, but why she isn't living with those relatives has always puzzled me. Maybe she wanted to stay in a certain area, and they just let her after she proved to them that she can be independent? Maybe they check in on her once in a while? Thoughts?
Rei going to a private Catholic school is actually more of a sign of her being upper class. In Japan, a lot of fancy private schools are run by Catholics (which is also true in the United States and other Western countries), so it makes sense that as the daughter of a high-ranking politician she would attend a nice private school as opposed to a public school like the other Inner Senshi. We actually see T.A. Academy in the manga, and it’s super fancy. I think we also see bits of it in the 90s anime but it’s not quite as extravagant.
Also, speaking as someone who did go to Catholic school in the States, you don’t have to be Catholic to go to one. I myself came from a Catholic family and was Catholic (at the time) and so were most of my classmates, but I also had non-Catholic classmates and teachers. The same thing applies in Japan; Rei herself is Shinto.
Also yeah, it’s interesting because iirc isn’t it mentioned that Mamoru grew up in an orphanage after his parents died? I could be remembering wrong. Honestly, anime/manga is full of worryingly young teens living by themselves (either because they’re orphans or their parents are working abroad) and I have no idea if that’s an actual thing in Japan or if it’s just a plot contrivance. It’s just that, in my experience, Western media usually adheres to things like living with relatives, foster care, living with friends, running away, etc when it comes to characters with no parents.
But for me personally, I always kinda assumed Mako’s situation is like Mami’s from PMMM. In that her parents probably left her a large inheritance to live off of but she has no close living relatives. It’s also mentioned that Mako’s parents died in a plane crash; maybe Mako got an insurance payout?
What baffles me most now is why I haven’t seen anyone talk about this scene!!
Momo: “You should join our Mekashishi Dan” too!
So yeah:
Meka = Mecha
Shishi is like = flesh, meat, lion, CORPSE, urine, patriot… and I’m practically laughing uncontrollably with the Mecha Corpses pun here I’m sorry!!
(( in case some of you have missed it, hibiya’s section has been found and added to the translation of the booklet! his eye power is also revealed!
#8: Amamiya Hibiya
After being told that she wants to go to summer school to prepare for the middle school entrance exams, he is half-forced into staying for a summer in the city by Hiyori, who he has (unrequited) feelings for. They visit Hiyori’s sister Ayaka’s home, but because Hiyori falls for a boy they meet there, Konoha, he’s hit by intense feelings of jealousy. In the middle of it he gets involved in a traffic accident while shopping with Hiyori and comes into contact with the Kagerou Daze. He is possessed by the snake of the “Eye Focusing” abilities, and acquires the power to perceive objects and details that are far away from an aerial (bird’s eye) view.
