If you live in the US your household can order more free covid tests. Starting in late september, 2024, you will be able to order more tests at https://covidtests.gov . No shipping handling or any other charges, just feeling your address and have four nasal swab tests sent to your home for free.
There is also a new covid booster coming out after labor day. If you are doing any kind of significant traveling, or you will be spending a lot of time around big groups of people like at college or school, please plan on getting this year's flu shot as well as your covid booster. We had a winter level surge over the summer, I am very worried that we are going to have an even more significant surge this fall and winter.
Help keep COVID-19 vaccines free in the United States!
The People's CDC has created a template for sending a letter to Congress about extending the Bridge Access Program, which has been providing free COVID vaccines to uninsured people in the United States. As of time time of this posting (July 19, 2024), the Bridge Access Program will be ending next month.
My family needs the Bridge Access Program! It is the ONLY way for poor households like mine to access COVID vaccines. If this program goes away, a lot of people like my family are going to have even less access to the outside world.
My family has already had difficulty utilizing the Bridge Access Program for our updated boosters, because many vaccination locations are preemptively (and suspiciously) claiming they can't offer the vaccines for free. We tried three different locations for our most recent booster, and we still haven't been able to get it, even though the Bridge Access Program is supposed to still be in effect. We keep getting told there are "none available" by pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens, and the current wait for an appointment at the sliding-scale clinic is longer than the remainder of the Bridge Access Program. By the time I get in, it won't be free anymore, unless Congress is convinced to extend the program.
Vaccine access cannot be allowed to be taken from us like this. Lack of updated vaccines is why I can barely leave the house.
COVID hasn't gone away, vaccine boosters are vital, and I'm asking US residents to fill out and submit the form. It's a small way to help, but the People's CDC has had success with these campaigns in the past. I choose to cling to what slivers of hope I can right now.
If you have the energy, please edit the letter a little to make it clear a real constituent sent it. I added a line about my family being high-risk and that while my vaccines are covered, ending this program puts me around more people who won't be. I also mentioned that I own a small business and that me getting sick or dying jeopardizes my employees' income.
Sending the letter is excellent, but even better is adding your own spice to it so it's counted as 'a real person cared about this' and not 'a form letter.'
A lot of racists, when they hear about black people receiving reparations, respond with "Does that mean these other groups of people deserve reparations too?"
Yes. They do deserve reparations. Everyone who was exploited for profit deserves reparations. That's why we've been demanding rich people pay taxes. That's why we've been demanding and end to for-profit housing and healthcare. That's why we've been demanding student loan forgiveness. That's why we've been demanding that workers get paid for the value they produce instead of rich people keeping the profits while the workers starve. But you've been against that. You bring up "other people are mistreated too" as if it's some kind of "gotcha", but whenever there's an opportunity to help those other people, you try to stop it.
