People so often talk about parallel play as a thing children do, but adults do it too! I love just hanging out with others while we do our own things. The fact that we're not doing something together doesn't bother me. It's simply being together that's important.
Whenever I'm talking to someone I rarely actually look them in the eye. My eyes usually focus on the eye brows and nose bridge. Those are close enough to the eyes that people think I'm looking them in the eye.
Day 2 of Auctober!
I've heard a few reasons as to why an infinity symbol is used. The first one I heard was because autism is something we're born with and will die with. It is with us forever. Some may see that as a negative meaning but I don't. You can't remove my autism from me because it is part of me. To remove my autism would be to completely change who I am.
I am forever neurodivergent and forever autistic. And for that I'm glad!
Day 8 of Auctober!
Non-speaking people are often looked down upon simply because they don't speak. Not being able to speak doesn't mean they're not people just like you and me. There are so many amazing non-speaking creators out there!
The latest research shows that there's a large overlap between autism and ADHD. When someone has both but has only been diagnosed with one it can make this very confusing.
I find that some people who are in a majority demographic don't like having labels on themselves. They see themselves as the default and can't grasp at the idea that others that aren't in that majority demographic view them as part of the "other".
I was diagnosed as autistic during a 2 week stay in a psychiatric ward. Many other autistics are diagnosed after hitting autistic burnout or completely melting down.
My hope is that less and less autistic people need to hit rock bottom just to discover they're autistic.
Did you still have to pay for the diagnosis?
Thankfully no, but only because I was a minor (17)
Every day we're learning more about autism, and every day more and more autistic people are being public about their autistic experiences. This is helping people recognize autism in themselves at much higher numbers than before.
More people getting diagnosed is a good thing, not a bad thing.
I hate how often someone suddenly changes how they act towards me the second they find out I'm autistic. I'm still the same person you were talking to before you found out!
I hate this comparison! Autism is talked about like it's some deadly disease. It's been compared to cancer, diabetes and AIDS, which isn't just insulting to autistic people, it's also insulting to people dealing with cancer, diabetes and AIDS!
As the child of a cancer survivor I implore you, just stop this. Autism isn't a disease, it's just a different neurotype.
You can’t just erase a part of someone because you don’t want to see it. I’m autistic. I’m nonbinary. If you refuse to see those parts of me then you’re seeing an incomplete version of me, a false version of me.
For people who require alone time it's so important to be with someone who respects that need.
I feel that imposter syndrome within the autistic community is so common. We're constantly told "you don't look autistic" that sometimes we believe it. It's okay though. You're not alone in feeling this. Don't listen to those doubts, and embrace your autistic self!

Even before I got my autism diagnosis my mom was always chill with letting me do my thing. I'm so grateful to have had her as my advocate while I was growing up.

The fact that there are autistic people who believe vaccines cause autism blows my mind! They often cause a lot of drama in online autistic spaces.
I only make a big deal about calling myself autistic because of the number of times I've been told not to.
Each of us should be free to label ourselves with what makes us the most comfortable.
