“When we first met Simmons in Season One, we really experimented with colors and patterns for her. At the end of Season One and going into Season Two, when SHIELD fell, her costumes took on a darker done. We stripped away some of the color, but we still played with patterns. Then in Season Three, she wound up on Maveth. When she got back, we wanted to show the emotional trauma of what had happened, so we stripped away both color and patterns. As she slowly started to come out of that trauma, we brightened up her palette a little bit. Coming into Season Four, she really grew up.
