Yes , Aomi was born female, Aoxi could only have female babies and had Aomi in an area where by tradition all first born had to be male, female  babies were buried alive. It wasn’t exactly their area of choice to have a baby.

Rahu used his arcane skills to to fool the locals because for one reason, he couldn’t go on a genocide campaign as he normally would have, and two, war had worn Aoxi and Rahu out so badly  that even their most basic of combat skills were stunted.(as demons)

Their only way to make-do was to adapt for a while.  Rahu turned Aomi into a boy and Aomi remained that way until the age of twelve , since that was when all of Aomi’s shapeshifting abilities began to manifest.

Okay fair question.

1. Pretty much all of Aoxi’s life consisted of death, war, rebirth, graveyards. She was after all Anuke’s kittypet of sorts and things pretty much are a chaotic cluster fuck if you are the comfort source for a deity and indulges in carnage and death.

2. Only sense of peace was…graveyards of sorts and among other places - libraries, etc etc.

3. the Tower of Silence in question was abandoned, had not seen corpses well over a thousand years by the time Aoxi decided to hide there. Being a war god’s kittypet has drawbacks, in this case, bunch of religious fanatics finding out the pet of the deity that brought down genocide upon them was in their midst.

Yup yup. Indeedo. Not the best of places but Aoxi (Aomi’s mum) was completely out of options at that time.
