At the bottom of the libfem philosophy is the idea that no choice made freely is disempowering, and that's simply false - unless you want to throw out what "power" means. For example, a woman could choose to throw away a great career in which she's financially comfortable and self-sufficient, and instead go live the miserable life of a junkie with an abusive boyfriend/drug dealer, rotting in a bedbug infested motel until she dies of an overdose. She chose it, and one might point out that she had the RIGHT to ruin her life; but doing so was not empowering just because the had the "power" to choose it. It was very much the opposite.

The libfem idea about empowerment is incredibly superficial because it ends at the act of decision making, while the radfem idea about it is whether it positively affects your entire existence and every level of your well-being.

And yet liberals are totally fine pointing out the false perception of free choice when it comes to issues like race and poverty. Not saying they’re entirely wrong when it comes to these marginalized groups, but they stop short when it comes to the actual harm and abuse of women. How interesting.

If men go bare face then women must wear makeup, if men wear baggy clothes then women must wear tight clothes, if men cut their hair short then women must keep theirs long, if men cover their whole body then women must reveal theirs, if men are smart then women must be dumb, if men are loud then women must be quiet, etc. Hence, why femininity can never be subversive or progressive in any context.
