I am making this in good faith and I genuinely want an answer, ideally from someone who believe this.

With the current information we have, why do people insist Israel is committing a genocide?

South Africa is trying to extend the deadline to find evidence of genocide to present in their court case against Israel. Israel also makes efforts to minimize civilian casualties like warning before they attack and try to get as many people to evacuate as they can before they move to an area.

Under international law, hamas occupying hospitals and schools means that they are no longer protected areas and in those places, any civilian casualties caused by reasonable force are attributed to hamas and therefore don't count towards evidence of genocide.

Death toll doesn't automatically equal genocide as there has to be intent for it to count as one.

We can all agree that Israel has committed war crimes and even if they didn't, what is happening is utterly terrible.

So why insist on it being a genocide instead of a terrible war? Why can't it be a massive tragedy without it being called a genocide?

And I know I'll get certain comments from other jews so I'll make it explicitly clear, I'm not talking about antisemites who call it a genocide because they want a socially acceptable excuse to hate jews, I'm talking about people who are not antisemitic and call it a genocide

I think that the huge misinformation campaign that followed October 7th is very much to blame. People were shown videos of atrocities from other countries and told it was from Gaza, and other lies like the hospital bombing. Since then they have made up their mind and trying to dissuade them just got you labelled a genocide denier.

And the truth is….Muslims, which is not pronounced “muzzlim” by the way, are just people. I’m slowly realising that almost nobody thinks that antisemitism is a real problem. They only think nazis are a problem (if that even), because they were conditioned to hate them.

But they don’t consider their own antisemitism to be antisemitism - they just consider it to be common sense, or justified political activism!

It will never cease to amuse me that anti-Zionists are managing to promote Aliyah and Zionism better than Israel ever has or ever could.

Okay, so after giving it some more thought, I’ve come to realize that the anti-Zionist movement is basically just the leftist version of the anti-abortion movement. Much like how anti-abortion activists don’t seek to reduce the “harm” of an abortion (in quotes because it’s not actually a harm) by providing contraception to prevent unwanted pregnancies or support for pregnancy and child-raising, the anti-Zionist movement doesn’t seek to reduce the “harm” of Jews moving to Israel by making the diaspora safe. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about harm reduction, but about punishment for a perceived sin.

Instead of anti-zionists doing what they can to remove one of the multiple reasons jews want to make aliyah (move to israel for my goyim followers), they instead take antisemitic actions and behaviours which in turn makes jews want to make aliyah.

Non-Jewish, but the flood of absolute poison toward Jews since October 7th has rapidly convinced me, someone who is generally skeptical of both nationalism and nuclear arms and who was pretty skeptical of Israel before recent events, that a nuclear-armed Jewish state is the only current way to ensure the survival of the Jewish people and culture.

If it has that effect on me, I can't imagine how much more persuasive it is to actual Jewish people.
