on the topic of accurate madame yu takes: it drives me a little nuts that there are so many stories taking it for granted that madame yu beat wwx all the time because in the book, wwx says at various points that madame yu "had never really done anything to harm him" and "had never truly been cruel to him."
of course you have to take both of those absolving statements with a huge grain of salt because wwx is very apt to brush things off, but it's really common in fanfic to write him as being regularly subjected to harsh physical discipline at lotus pier to the point of being visibly scarred, and i just don't think that's supported by canon. we've even got a look into his head when he sees lwj's whip scars (from the discipline whip, not a melee whip like zidian) and compares them to jiang cheng's single scar (from the wen's use of the discipline whip) while mentioning he's never had such a thing used on him.
in the lotus pods extra madame yu snags wwx on the back with zidian as he's running away because he and a bunch of other male disciples are trying to get out of a punishment they earned by being shirtless around yanli. the tone the book takes about this is roughly equivalent to how you might talk about a kid getting slapped with a sandal/chancla/flipflop because they are running away from time-out. yes it's still hitting a kid (and i would love it if in this modern era we could perhaps STOP making funny tiktoks about moms hitting their children with shoes! don't fucking hit your kids at all!) but it's not the kind of hitting that should make your mind jump immediately to regular savage beatings?? especially given how wwx reacts to being beaten for real in the cloud recesses!
madame yu was verbally abusive and extremely free with time-outs and groundings. she smacked the kids at least occasionally. but whatever she did was not bad enough to leave scars, nor was it bad enough for the mostly-happy-go-lucky wwx to think of her as cruel or harmful. meanwhile, the lans beat teenagers with wooden sticks so badly they wouldn't be able to recover for multiple days...just for breaking curfew! and that is the social milieu madam yu lives in! i just think the fanon could use some perspective.

This is a hilarious mistranslation actually. I suspect it originally said something along the lines of "Impregnerad mot vatten", i.e. "Water proof".
Impregnering is the process of making a material resistant to water/heat. The swedish word for water (vatten) is similar to the word for goblin (vätten) so I guess there was a mixup.

And poor xiao jiu first he’s the spy then he’s forgiven then he’s taken over by the big bad, I think it’s supposed to be plot twisty but it’s just kind of annoying
And wen xiao is the most useless goddess to ever exist, she’s a goddess for crying out loud yet all she does is get choked out and cry a lot I had such high hopes after episode 1, what happened to the plucky stabby research nerd?
