Godzilla (2014) Review
Let me get this out the way, it was jaw dropping incredible. Not since Jurassic Park (or The Mist in some spots) that a movie gave me a great deal of fear and thrill to see a monster movie. Ever since Gareth Edwards was announced to direct, I knew he was going to share the same qualities from Monsters like relying on a great build up and it so worked for Godzilla. You can see Frank Darabont's revisions of the story in a few scenes which was always great to see. The cast did a great job, everyone Cranston to Watanabe to especially Elizabeth Olsen did well. As for Godzilla himself, I didn't mind the tease and build up, I actually loved it. As I said earlier it worked, you get a huge payoff at the end and it was glorious. I thought the destruction was more tragic and menacing than all of Pacific Rim. They really being in the fear of a horror film, as it should be. If there's any problems I had, it was maybe one of the battle scenes that kinda cuts away. They did it earlier but it worked within the context of the film but that one could've and should have been longer. I saw this at a IMAX and the sound was impeccable, even if the 3D didn't really work, the sound quality was like no other. It was like being in D-Box for free. Also the score was also incredible, it really gives that Jurassic Park feel to it. I really want to see this again soon and at a IMAX. (sorry if i'm rambling) 9/10
