Wilbur is a Friend, Not Food

At 9-years-old, Wilbur is a sweet, sweet pig. Can’t you just tell by his eyes?

It’s hard to believe that 110 million pigs are killed yearly in the US for their flesh — at only 6 months of age. Go vegan to help stop this violence.

During her internship, Eden participated in our most recent rescue of 2,000 hens from an egg farm on July 3rd. These hens had been living in wire battery cages for the first 2 years of their lives and were scheduled to be killed.

Describing what it was like to witness these hens’ newfound liberation and safety upon arrival at Animal Place, Eden says, “I truly had the best time just sitting in the hens’ barns with them watching them get to be real chickens for the first time in their lives.”

These three rabbits were rescued from a research lab in 2014. Enduring regular, painful experiments before coming to Animal Place, these rabbits are victims of cosmetics that were needlessly tested on animals.

Rabbits are commonly used in labs to test the safety of makeup, hygiene products, household cleaning products, and medications.

Condemn animal cruelty through your consumer choices. Be sure to only purchase products that clearly state that they have not been tested on animals.

Magnolia Gets to Live

Magnolia was born on a dairy farm as a twin to a male calf. Because she was exposed to her brother’s hormones, she is unable to get pregnant and therefore unable to produce milk, making her useless to the dairy industry.

At two years old, Magnolia is still a teenager and far from full-grown. Yet if she hadn’t been rescued, she would have already been killed for “cheap dairy beef.”

Luckily, she has found liberation and will continue to live out her natural lifespan of 15-17 years at our sanctuary.

Go vegan to help the billions of individuals not as lucky as Magnolia.

Without your help, we wouldn’t be able to do our life-saving work.

Verna suffered from an extremely difficult and painful labor when she was about a year old. She was being exploited for weed abatement along with a herd of other intact male and female goats, and she was was left struggling in labor for 18 hours without any medical attention. The farmer was willing to pay for someone to shoot Verna, but not save her.

Fortunately, a compassionate neighbor stepped in and contacted us. Verna underwent a C-section, but her baby sadly did not survive.

Show Verna your love by sponsoring her today at http://animalplace.org/donate-sponsor-an-animal/!

After being born on a dairy farm, Nicholas was separated from his mother and sent to auction at hardly a few days old. He was bought for $15. Nicholas was then chained up outside an apartment complex in Berkeley, California, and was not fed any milk—only hay. Animal control confiscated Nicholas and brought him to our sanctuary when he was still only a few days old in December 2007.

Stand Up for Hens

“Depopulation” is the industry term for killing hens when their egg production declines slightly. They either have their throats slit in slaughterhouses or are gassed.

Pictured are several of the 2,000 lucky hens who we rescued from this unjust fate on July 3rd, and are living at our rescue and adoption center until they are adopted into forever homes.

(Their feathers look like this because they were molting at the time of the picture)

Words of encouragement from Emily!

Emily entered her internship as a vegetarian and left as a passionate vegan! She also says that “veganism opened [her] mind to being more creative with cooking and being healthier.” All positives!

Annie!

Annie’s fate turned around in the nick of time when she was confiscated by animal control from a slaughterhouse that allowed customers to choose the nonhuman individual(s) they would like killed for them. Annie came to Animal Place in 2008 with 5 other goats and 3 sheep from that same rescue.

Never again will her worth be reduced to her flesh.

All so people could eat her eggs...

When she was only a day-old, her beak was severed with a laser, so that she could not keep herself safe in a cage.

98% of hens in the egg industry are debeaked without any pain relief as mere chicks in order to prevent serious injury from any fighting that results from being forced to live in such confined, stressful, and unnatural conditions on egg farms.

Since being rescued, each one of these hens received the medical care, love, respect, and freedom that every individual deserves but never receives in animal agriculture.

We wouldn’t be able to save this many lives without our adopters.

If you can give a loving, forever home to some of these rescued sweeties (and you live in California), then apply to adopt at henrescuers.org
