To produce a ¼ pound burger requires immense natural resources. Water is needed to grow the alfalfa and grains fed to the cows. Water is needed to hydrate the bovine himself (and they drink 20-30 gallons a day). Plant-based foods generally require less water and are less resource intensive. Eat vegan!
Which consumes the most water? A) a 10-minute shower B) a handful of almonds C) a quarter pound hamburger patty D) a washing machine load Check out the answer here: (The answer might surprise you...)

A large amount of water is used to produce these animal products! Eating vegan is an easy way to be environmentally conscious.
Care about California’s drought? Go vegan.
Truth or Drought
In the face of California's severe ongoing drought, it's time to finally make the connection between animal-based diets and devastating water shortages. 47% of California's water footprint is associated with meat and dairy (Pacific Institute), despite the fact that vegetarian diets require half the water (UNESCO) and each person eating a vegan diet saves 600 gallons of water per day (National Geographic). Help others make this urgent connection! Restaurant signs, lawn signs, and informative factual leaflets are available at truthordrought.com
Live in California and care about water conservation? Eat plants! California is in its 4th year of a historical drought. Governor Jerry Brown declared a State of Emergency, issuing an executive order to reduce urban water usage by 25 percent. But does that make sense when 46% of California’s water goes into producing feed and growing animals for slaughter? While taking shorter showers and sprinkling your lawn less are easy actions to take, eliminating your consumption of animals makes more water-conservation sense. https://www.thedodo.com/drought-1085519358.html?xrs=RebelMouse_fb#
With water scarcity becoming a more pressing global issue, and the California drought dragging on well beyond our comfort zones, the connections between raising animals for food and excessive water use are coming to light. Check out this article from One Green Planet and find out more on how eating meat affects your water footprint.
"Unless you are a climate change denier, it is inconceivable to ignore one of the largest contributors to global climate change -- industrialized animal agriculture ... If it's hard to go vegan, how much harder will it be to either endure floods or extreme heat and droughts, which will lead to food shortages and power outages at the very least."
"Each of us has an opportunity to take action that could cut our water waste far more than any household use by reducing or eliminating animal products from our diet. It takes less water to produce one year’s worth of food for a completely plant-based diet than it does to produce one month’s worth of food for a diet with animal products."
