508 hens have been liberated from a free-range farm exploiting hens for egg production, but there is still a lot of work to be done at our rescue and adoption facility in Vacaville, CA. Half of these hens have respiratory illness, with a dozen suffering severely swollen sinuses. There were no roosters at this farm - all of Rosie’s brothers were killed at the hatchery the day they were born. We still need your help! Apply to volunteer or adopt some of these lucky hens...they won’t be available until completely healthy but now is a great time to apply. www.henrescuers.org
What are your favorite aspects of your job as adoption coordinator? "Talking with adopters during their phone interviews, then meeting them face-to-face and seeing them so happy to take home these rescued chickens into their homes for the rest of their lives." -Jacinda Virgin, Adoption Coordinator

Meet Jan Galeazzi, Animal Place’s Rescue Ranch Manager, who oversees the care of thousands at Animal Place’s rescue and adoption center in northern California. In the past year, Jan and her crew of dedicated caregivers have overseen the care of more than 4,000 animals!
Tweety the rooster needs a home! Please share. He is a 6-mos-old buff Orpington in Rancho Cordova. Friendly. Remember to #adopt, not shop when adding chickens to your flock! In the past week, we have received a dozen calls from people trying to rehome roosters they purchased as improperly sexed hen chicks. This is unfair to the roosters, who deserve to be treated with the same respect and compassion as hens. If you can welcome Tweety into your flock, email [email protected] to help!
