I have returned, if briefly! Over the winter break, I managed to get these pages done for y’all. There’s still one more part to this chapter but I have started classes once more and will be very busy. No, I have not canceled this project. :)

I truly hope y’all enjoyed this chapter because coming up with it wasn’t eXaCTLy easy (ask the right ppl and they’ll tell you). Fun fact: I changed a bit of the script at the very end bc I realized something important for Chapter 8. A bit of Varian’s dialogue was inspired by Beth Crowley’s song “All I Know.”

Anyway uh, I start online school on Tuesday so I’m gonna be on semi-hiatus for a bit (I may or may not post on the 15th idk yet) (*´-`)

I guess you could say that Varian is “wrestling” with his conscience (hAh). The reason why I made him like that is because our negative conscience is often seductive and powerful (which is why we give in so easily). I made the center stone a jade because in Chinese culture, the jade is used to bring wealth/fortune while dispelling off evil spirits.

When I said to keep Varian’s fears/anxieties in mine back in Chapter 5...it was for this reason. I’ve been planning this specific scene out for a few months now believe it or not.

I have a few things to say and that is Varian is insane enough to carry hydrochloric acid with him (which has many resources btw), I find it hilarious that Yong carries a sleeve of fireworks on his leg, and that how Varian acquired his staff might be completely wrong oof.

I’m starting school soon, which is why I changed the parts from 6 to 5. I want to finish Chapter 6 by then. ᕦ(ò_óˇ)ᕤ

Welcome to my longest chapter yet! I had to split it into so many parts because there are 24 pages oops. A few weeks ago I asked around if anyone knew anything about Varian’s staff and no one did, sooo I made it part of the trial.

You guys don’t know how much I STRUGGLED with this part (mainly because I tackled all the things I don’t like drawing: complex backgrounds, crowds, dynamic poses) but ehe anyway Yong is finally introduced! I apologize for the cliffhanger but I’m kinda known for them oops.

This chapter is slightly longer than my other chapters and mainly involves introductions. I had a lot of fun designing the Fire Kingdom and took inspiration from actual Chinese temples/villages while suffering simultaneously (like srsly guys it took me FIVE hours to do the last page).

But besides that, keep Varian’s fears/anxieties in mind because they play a major role later on! >:)

That wraps up Act One of my V&tSK comic! From here, Varian would travel to new places and meet new friends (I honestly can’t wait to write their dialogue hehe). Chapter five will be introductions and things, Varian IS in a new kingdom after all!

I had no idea what Prometheus’s coloring was btw, I thought a muddy brown looked nice. I couldn’t resist the iconic “Let me make you proud” too. Oh! I also took the background from the show on the last slide because backgrounds kill me. :’)

Obviously Varian is going to write in a journal like Rapunzel during his lil’ adventure, it wouldn’t be a Tangled spinoff without it. Last part of Chapter 4 and Act 1 for that matter will update next week.
