Animal of the day: Eastern red-spotted newt! (Notophthalmus viridescens) These small amphibians inhabit the streams and ponds of Eastern North America! They are known for their red eft stage (pictured above) during which they exhibit a bright orange coloration meant to warn predators of their toxicity!
