ah yes, the hogwarts houses: main characters, boring, boring, and snake
maybe the real hogwarts education was the trauma we gained along the way
For the forlorn and the weary.
↳ for my followers; happy holidays!
Picture it. In a world where you have quills that can write what is being said, why would a deaf student at Hogwarts be forced to have their hearing magicked “better”? They could just bring quills to take down what the teachers say in class. Even better, magical parchment that automatically raises up braille and illustrations in books or in time with a teacher’s dictation, for VI students. (All the labels in the Potions dungeon have those, to prevent critical mix-ups) (and all Apothecaries carry potion-making sets that help measure and cut things for VI people, or slide through while cutting easily, for those that have muscular weaknesses)
The magical moving stairs are a hassle for students that have mobility disabilities, except for how if you stand/sit to the left hand side, hold the banister, and tap the wall three times, the stairs will transport you up, like a magical escalator, but faster and safer because your feet are glued in place as it moves.
Students with learning disabilities aren’t assigned tutors, because the older members of their Houses are required to assist anyone that requests a tutor. Students that assist an impaired student through taking an exam are given extra credit in that class. Wands are charmed during creation so that if a student stutters or hesitates or tics while casting a spell, they won’t lose an eyebrow (or a hand, or ear, or turn green) but the spell will auto-terminate or complete.
Autistic students with cloaks provided from them that block out sound and light when the hoods are drawn up and can be charmed with a favorite scent and sound, and they’re always soft and comforting, for if overstimulation happens. Almost every teacher is very good about letting students sit in private alcoves if they begin to get overstimulated or panic in a classroom from anxiety.
Any medicinal treatments (muggle or wizard) needed for a chronic illness are provided by the school, as are supplies that are necessary for students to function in class, like the self-writing quills or cloaks or charmed bracelets that alert a staff member if a student in their vicinity is having some sort of emergency event.
Just….. accessible and safe Hogwarts *w*
If only JK Rowling had realized the possibilities of the world she created.
