okay so @raptors-n-foxes asked me to give them some art tips and gave me this drawing for a paint over so i decided to make a post so maybe it will help some of you too!^^
Wow theres a lot of going on! Its looks really dynamic and has tension, its really good!
First tip i would suggest is searching for good action pose reference on pinterest just type "action pose sword" pick what you like and apply. Right away i see a problem with a hidden leg and arm not reading very clearly. Also you can fill you character silhouette with black to check yourself if you see whats going on without and details.
Second, use grayscale overlay to check your values, plus you can turn off your line art layer so you can really see if character doesn't blend into the background. I also recommend to get your drawing far away and squint your eyes to really make sure you can (not) see whats happening on the picture. Right now i see that your values got relatively the same except lightning and character really do blend into the background a lot.
Third one. Combine your rim-light as much as you possibly can or it will get really noisy and will be more confusing than helpful for the viewer to read the silhouette better
Whats for the composition i would expand canvas on the right so link is less feel like hes literally being pushed in the picture frameXD
aaand here the end result!
I moved the whole composition to the center erased some of the flash lights while keeping only those that in the center of the composition. Toned down the background, made sure water and pears doesn't blend that much Made water highlights a bit more fitting the shape of the water Made rim-light more consistent, keeping it on the same left side Remade metal shading Aaand toned everything down with filter layers like color, saturation Also i used multiply for characters to make them darker than the background Aand i think thats all! CALEB AND HUNTER ARE COLOR BLIND IN AXE AU!! Specifically, they have protanopia. This is a type of color blindness, when everything is really bad for you, you can barely distinguish red from green even by its tone. the picture is made in this palette specifically) hence this joke about plant juice In fact, according to the Axe canon, the blood of witches and demons is really green, but for Caleb, blood, grass and sky - it's all green, he doesn't give a damn This feature of his is symbolic for the story - Caleb doesn't see any differences between the human world and the Boiling Isles, so he's cool with the red grass and purple sky, it doesn't irritate him at all. and he also doesn't care whose blood is spilled, witches or humans - all living beings. and Philip on the opposite, justifies himself with the color of blood, giving himself permission to do terrible things as always I remind you that the art was was by @angstyhikka, you can recognize her paint job by the duplicated highlighted lineart uwu
So in the Axe AU, I was under the impression that Philip was overprotective of Hunter. Does Hunter actually like going on missions with his dad? Also, what the heck do they even do? Is the Golden Guard still a thing, and Hunter runs errands for the emperor the same as the Black Guard?

Philip is always overprotective but in his owl a lil bit twisted ways, since he's very used to be in dangerous situations starting from when he traveled through the Boiling Isles and ending with his own experiments. And because he is a workaholic and at the same time actually wants to spend time with his sone and teach him everything he knows yes, sometimes he takes him on his missions and allows him to help as a lab assistant!
On missions Philip and his crew usually mostly research on dangerous creatures or wild witches that went mad and started to terrorize peaceful (if you can call witches and demons) inhabitants, but when its with Hunter most likely its just a peaceful trip that Philip called a mission to make it official and because Hunter really wanted to participate in one. Tho its not going as peaceful as he would like it to go heheXD
Nope, Golden Guard is not a thing in here tho Hunter could name himself like that after his dad, but it more of a game cus Philip is a role model for him and Hunter really wants to be like his father, smart, dangerous and mysterious. When he was a kid he though that his fathers mask was very cool and he wanted one for himself too and later Caleb made one for him as a gift :3
It was so devastating for him to learn later that Philip couldn't take this mask off in front of anyone even if he wanted to.

Axe Philip takes Hunter with him on missions, so that he can then drag him around like a puppy because he can't sit still in ambush
so sudden from me to see art for the Axe, it's like mostly Hikka and Ludwig's au, but at some point I got imbued with this Philip and his dynamics with Hunter the son boy, that I got inspired to make a whole pack of doodles with them! and I'll be posting them one by one now >:3
as usual, this page and the whole pack was colored by @angstyhikka, she just cooked the atmosphere on this page, I can't stop looking at it for a week now
