Incorrect Vespa Twins Quotes

Haruko: I turned out perfectly fine! Jinyu: Haruko, this morning you thought a ghost made your toast Haruko: I DIDN’T PUT THE BREAD IN! YOU DIDN’T PUT THE BREAD IN!!!

--

Haruko: I've already sent good vibes your way… they’re coming. There’s nothing you can do to stop them. Jinyu: This is the most threatening way I’ve ever been cheered up.

--

Haruko, pointing: May I sit there? Jinyu: That's my lap Haruko: That doesn't answer my question, Jinyu.

--

Haruko: I am not out of control! I'm a law abiding citizen! Jinyu: Really? Name one law Haruko: Don't kill people? Jinyu: That's on me. I set the bar too low.

--

Haruko: Okay, truth or dare? Jinyu: Truth Haruko: How many hours have you slept this week? Jinyu: Jinyu: ...Dare Haruko: Go to bed. Jinyu: I don’t like this game.

--

Haruko: Okay, help me please! Jinyu: Got two words for you. Haruko: I bet they won't be helpful. Jinyu: Your problem. Haruko: I was right

--

Haruko: Change is inedible. Jinyu: Don't you mean inevitable? Haruko, spitting out coins: No, I did not.

--

Haruko: I learned some very valuable lessons from this. Jinyu: I’m guessing they are all horrible distortions on the lessons you actually should’ve taken away. Haruko: Death isn’t real, and I’m basically God.

--

Haruko: If there's going to be a big dramatic scene, wait until I get back. Jinyu: Of course. I can't flip this table by myself.

--

Haruko: Look. I may not be a saint, but it's not like I’ve killed anybody. I’m not an arsonist. I’ve never found a wallet outside of an IHOP and thought about returning it but saw the owner lived out of state so just took the cash and dropped the wallet back on the ground. Jinyu: Okay, that's really specific, and that makes me think that you definitely did do that.

Behold, the whole next-generation of Gravity Falls mystery solvers, the Fooly Falls gang properly designed at last! Designing all of them was pretty easy since I used a Gravity Falls OC creator I found on DeviantArt to get the basics down, but the hardest part was drawing and coloring all of them. Thankfully however, this massive undertaking was all worth it. Enjoy!

Now for the latest additions to the cast, Abby and Stan Junior from thirteen years into the future and fully grown.

Rick and Haruko chapter 3: Good Rick Hunting (originally published on June 21, 2024)

AN: Hey, welcome back, everyone! How are you doing? You all look good, you all look good. Now, pardon me for taking so long, I've just had other business to do. Been watching TV shows, going to college, playing video games, all that jazz. But now I can finally set aside some time to finally get back to Rick and Haruko! When last we left off, the Flesh Curtains had their first big encounter with Medical Mechanica on the Boiling Isles, and Haruko has now learned that someone else wants Atomsk for himself. This does not please the future Vespa Woman one bit. What will happen when Haruko's relationship with Rick begins clashing with her crush on the Pirate King? Well, we'll have to see. But for now, let's get down to more crossovers!

--

Repre S. Entative glowered as he sat down in his office chair, still recovering from his altercation with the Flesh Curtains on the Boiling Isles a month ago with his organic arm in a sling, gazing at various holographic screens depicting the band's further escapades. On one screen, Haruko played doctor and forced three young female Galactic Federation officers to strip naked so she can touch them in uncomfortable places. On another screen, Rick is shown angrily shaking his fist at his ex-girlfriend Washu Hakubi, who returned her former lab partner's anger by threatening to cut his head off for science. Squanchy was playing a game of basketball against a cyborg basketball player, and Birdperson was meditating next to a silver-colored humanoid on a surfboard.

"I can't just sit idly by and watch them continue their chaos!" Repre yelled angrily while pounding the arm of his chair with his mechanical hand. "Ugh, if only I could somehow find a way to gain their trust! Maybe then, it'll be easier for me to find Atomsk." Just then, a Medical Machine entered his office. "Unit #4113, what is your request?"

"I wish to speak to you about our research on Neural Omnipotence energy." The Medical Machine answered coldly while presenting a video on a tablet it was holding. "Our continued project has seen fruit as we can now use it to deliver the factories and associated Pins to multiple alternate universes in an instant. Here is but one example we have from Dimension A-205."

The tablet showed an armada of Medical Machines and Medical Mechanica soldiers in Dimension A-205 fighting against an army of soldiers who were using fire-based abilities against them. "Our forces were ready to conquer this land and install another Pin, but everything changed when this so-called Fire Nation attacked."

"Does everyone in this dimension have fire powers?" Repre asked while stroking his chin with his mechanical arm.

"Not entirely." The Medical Machine continued. "This is a world where humans living in four nations display mastery in controlling one of the four elements: water, earth, fire, and air. Only a being known as the Avatar is adept at all four of them, but unfortunately, the current incarnation of the Avatar, the one who is supposed to end the Fire Nation's reign of terror, is reported missing."

"Interesting." Repre muttered, showing intrigue in the Four Nations' potential. "Fire up another portal! I want a word with whoever is leading this Fire Nation. Maybe we can strike up an alliance."

"But sir, your arm!" the Medical Machine urged the Representative Director. Still, he was too stubborn to listen as he stepped through an N.O. portal that brought him to Dimension A-205, right in the middle of the conflict between Medical Mechanica and the Fire Nation's army.

"Soldiers of the Fire Nation, we come in peace!" Repre declared as he made a grand speech to stop the fighting, putting his natural oratory skills to good use. "I am Repre S. Entative, representative director of Medical Mechanica. Today, I have come here to inform you and your military of the glorious purpose your empire and this entire world have been trusted with. I have planted a large Medical Mechanica factory on your land that will one day be very useful, and I must urge you to drop all futile resistance towards our rule."

"You must be the leader of these invaders." Zhao, one of the Fire Nation's generals, declared as he marched towards Repre with a hand covered in fire that he planned on attacking with. "The Fire Lord shall not take this lightly."

"Well, is the Fire Lord here with us right now?" Repre smirked as he gestured towards Zhao's forces being brought to their knees by the Medical Machines. "If you ever see your master again, tell him Medical Mechanica will always be watching. But in the meantime, men, fire when ready."

The Medical Machines silently obeyed and opened fire on the Fire Nation Soldiers as Repre left through another portal, leaving Zhao to grit his teeth in anger as he prepared to fight these invading machines.

Rick and Haruko chapter 2: Be Excellent to Each Other (originally published on March 14, 2024)

AN: Welcome back to Rick and Haruko, everyone! Sorry to keep you waiting, I had school stuff to do, plus I spent the weekend at Anime Milwaukee and had an utter blast taking pictures of cosplayers while also spending more than $600 on merchandise, like new games for my Nintendo Switch. I finally got my hands on games such as Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge, Astral Chain, and Triangle Strategy, which I've been told is supposed to be really fun. But enough about my personal life, let's get on with what you've all been waiting for already. Starting with this chapter, we start adventuring into more crossovers with fandoms I've yet to write for, so consider this a potential backdoor pilot for possible future stories. Okay? Okay. Now, on with the show!

---

For Haruko's first big concert as a member of Rick's band, the Flesh Curtains, she was taken to the Net. Through systems, peoples, and cities, to this place: Mainframe. What she found so amazing was that not only were there more dimensions beyond the one she lived in, but so many of them were so radically different from her own. In particular, Dimension R-994 was a world that took place entirely within a computer filled with humanoid beings known as Sprites, coexisting alongside little machines called Binomes. After taking the opportunity to play a show for the celebration of scientist Welman Matrix's discovery of systems beyond the city of Mainframe, Rick took the Flesh Curtains to this new dimension on the same cargo ship they rescued Haruko in, which Rick turned into the dimension-traveling Rick-stery Machine.

"So let me get this straight, Mr. Sanchez. Not only are you from somewhere outside of any system entirely," Dot Matrix, a green-skinned female Sprite in garish 80s-style clothing, asked Rick while the guitar-playing scientist tuned his bass in front of a diner under construction, "but you have the power to traverse dimensions?"

"Yeah, I was cracking dimensional travel before your old man made it cool." Rick boasted with a burp. "Wanna hear more about my travels? You would not believe what I've seen!"

"Please tell me more, Mr. Sanchez!" Dot's little brother Enzo demanded while excitedly hopping up and down, with his red and yellow furred dog Frisket barking behind him. "Your adventures sound alphanumeric!"

"Slow down there, young Enzo," Birdperson answered the young Sprite. "As much as we'd love to tell more about our adventures, we still have a concert to perform in the Twin City for your father."

"Hey, speaking of which, where did Haruko and Squanchy go?" Rick wondered while looking around for the band's drummer and their newest member before turning back to the Matrix siblings. "Well, I hate to cut and run you two, but we have some friends of our own to find. See you at the concert!"

As Dot began looking at a clipboard while Enzo continued impatiently running around, Rick and Birdperson walked away in search of their bandmates. "Any idea where those two could've gone?" Rick asked Birdperson. "We're supposed to go live in five minutes!"

"Hopefully, not too far away," Birdperson replied. "Squanchy only said they were going fishing together."

"Fishing, in this universe?" Rick commented while tuning his guitar. "How do the denizens of this place even eat? I mean, what's that diner even for anyways?"

"Excuse me, Mr. Sanchez." a Binome dressed as a construction worker said to Rick, catching the well-traveled scientist's attention. "My friends and I would like to hear some of your music before your big show today."

"Okay, fine, how about a little warm-up?" Rick said before preparing to rock out on his bass. "A-ONE, A-TWO, A-ONE, TWO, THREE-" Before he could finish counting down, he heard a loud sound coming from the Twin City. "What the shit?!" A massive explosion soon followed, knocking the two musicians and their audience off their feet. "Birdperson, what the hell just happened?!"

"Something must've happened in the Twin City." Birdperson analyzed, his composure never shaking despite the sudden noise. He then turned to watch Dot and Enzo hop aboard a car and race to the Twin City. "We can find Haruko later. I suggest we investigate the damages."

"Fine, whatever." Rick grumbled as he and Birdperson raced towards the Rick-stery Machine and flew off after the Matrix siblings.

Rick and Haruko chapter 1: Show Me What You Got (originally published on January 28, 2024)

AN: Guess who's back? Back again? Haruko's back, tell a friend! And this time, she won't be hanging around the Pines family in Gravity Falls because this time, we'll be going all the way back to her untold origin story first revealed in Fooly Falls 2: Ride on Shooting Star. Everything from the destruction of her home planet all the way up to the fabled Mechanica Mission where Haruko betrayed Rick, Birdperson, and Squanchy to get her grubby mitts all over Atomsk, and everything in between shall be revealed here at last, which will take a few cues from FLCL Alternative & Grunge and naturally involve a ton of crossovers because that's basically my special interest. Revealing just how Haruko became the woman she is today is going to be a very interesting ride, especially since as of now, FLCL has finished its final two seasons and we still know nothing of her origins. Or at least, its final two seasons until Production I.G. decides what else they can do with the franchise next. I think I'm talking too much, let's get on with it!

--

It started like any other day on the planet Wasprus for the past seven years. Workers would wake up, get ready, go to work, go home, and repeat the process for the next day. It wasn't always this way, though. Wasprus was once known as a relatively stable and prosperous planet. Then, everything changed when a mysterious megacorporation called Medical Mechanica conquered this world and forced its inhabitants to work themselves to death to produce Medical Machines.

One such inhabitant was a 19-year-old young woman named Haruha Raharu. She was a tall, slender girl with dull brown hair and sickly yellow eyes who was but one of many busy bees forced to do backbreaking labor for her planet's new mysterious overlords. Haruha remembered how they arrived when she was only twelve years old and tried to reach a peaceful agreement with Wasprus's government, but when a band of rebels led by Raharu's mother Rihanna broke into their headquarters and learned of the company's true plans, MM decided to cut to the chase and staged a hostile takeover. Most of the rebels were imprisoned and executed, but Rihanna managed to get away and went into hiding, only to be killed years later by her drunken husband. Although Haruha drifted away from her mother due to how often she was away as a member of the resistance, she does remember Rihanna as a kind and imaginative woman who encouraged Haruha's creativity and would do anything for her family.

"ALL WORKING-CLASS CITIZENS WILL BE FINED IF THEY ARE LATE!" a loud announcer commanded while sirens began blaring, cuing Haruha to get a move on and go to work. Along the way, however, she accidentally bumped into a man on the street, and the two fell over.

"Hey, watch where you're going, asshole!" Haruha cursed at the man while getting up and walking off. "And get to work already, sheesh."

"Ooh-la-la, someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning." the man belched in annoyance before taking a sip from his flask and hiding from the authorities in an alleyway. "Okay, guys, looks like we have a bit of a problem here."

What Haruha didn't realize was that the man she bumped into would soon change her life forever. High above the planet's city of EroEro, hidden behind the smog that had covered the sky, the faint silhouette of a red phoenix hovered in the air.

One Last Thing About Fooly Falls I Just Came Up But Had No Room For In The Last Post

Stan Jr's birthstone is ruby and his zodiac sign is cancer. Even as a five month old baby by the time of A FLCL Christmas in Gravity Falls, Junior has a strong sense of empathy and is always willing to lend a helping hand or a shoulder to cry on for anyone who needs it. He likes to see the good in others, whether they be a creation of Santa Claus made to scare naughty children into behaving or other boys like him who feel like they have no direction in life. But don't mistake that compassion and optimism for weakness, because just like his namesake, Stan Junior is always ready to throw hands when anyone threatens his loved ones or the innocent in general. That kid's got a bright future ahead of him.

(also, this is my 666th post. Heh, nice. I'm going to Hell.)

What You Never Knew About Fooly Falls (part of it just being stuff I just came up with)

  • Ian Ramirez gets his name from Ian Worrel, art director of Gravity Falls.
  • Jorgé's real name is Joseph, but everyone calls him Jorgé because that's what Pacifica called Soos back in the day.
  • The idea of Soos and Melody having seven kids came from the Mabel's Guide to Dating short, where Soos says he'd ideally have seven kids for each day of the week to love.
  • For the epilogue scene of Ride on Shooting Star, Stan Jr. is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch (Ichigo Kurosaki, Adam Park, Izaya Orihara, Giyu Tomioka, Lelouch vi Britannia, Rossiu Adai) and Natsuki Hanae (Tanjiro Kamado, Ken Kaneki, Jaco the Galactic Patrolman, Cuphead, Tai Yagami, 9S), while the older version of Abby is voiced by Colleen Clinkenbeard (Erza Scarlet, Monkey D. Luffy, Princess Hibana, Marie Mjolnir, Riza Hawkeye, Momo Yaoyorozu) and Nana Mizuki (Ann Takamaki, Hinata Hyuga, Tamao Tamamura, Lan Fan, Michella Watch, Cheelai, Sana Sunomiya).
  • At some point prior to the beginning of Fooly Falls 2, Waddles unfortunately passed away from old age. He lived a pretty long life too, so Mabel made sure her precious piggy would be forever immortalized in a stuffed pig she made for Tyrone, which is where Waddles II came from.
  • I recently learned that according to Alex Hirsch in 2020, the 45th President of the United States in Gravity Falls was Old Man McGucket. Thus, I shall retcon my Donald Trump joke to be that Trump still became president after McGucket and Joe Biden but before Maki Kitaki, making him president between 2025 and 2029.
  • Dipper and Pacifica maintained a stable romance with each other throughout their teenage years until they were 18 years old, when Pacifica realized that Dipper still held a torch for Wendy and didn't hold it against him. Besides, she planned on dating Mabel just in case.
  • Ezra Chiu was the product of Candy experimenting on an anonymous sperm donation to effectively create her own super-soldier, as I revealed in A FLCL Christmas in Gravity Falls.
  • As I implied in Ride on Shooting Star, Haruko came from a broken home on her dystopian home planet of Wasprus, but it wasn't always that way. Wasprus was yet another planet enslaved by Medical Mechanica to do their bidding, and Haruko's mother Rihanna Raharu led the resistance against the company's top brass to free their home planet from MM's tyranny. Unfortunately, the rebellion failed and Rihanna was later killed by her drunken husband Reagan. All of this shall be further elaborated upon in Rick and Haruko.
  • Speaking of which, when Haruko was saved from Wasprus's destruction by Atomsk thanks to the timely intervention of Rick Sanchez, back when he was a member of the Flesh Curtains alongside Birdperson and Squanchy, that was when Haruko's obsession with Atomsk began developing. This, combined with Rick being as bad an influence on her as he would eventually become with Morty, would cause Haruko to betray Rick during an undercover mission as an officer of the Galactic Space Patrol Brotherhood. In the process, a Naked Focal Point sucks Haruko up and drops her off in Gravity Falls, where she would meet a younger version of Commander Amarao. The rest will be revealed soon.
  • Gwen is a skilled golf player, no doubt she was trained by her aunts Mabel and Pacifica, and also plays tennis with Arnold. She also shares her father's love of BABBA and has caught him singing Disco Girl only to start singing with him.
  • Much like Wendy before her, Leia also has her own friend group of rambunctious teenagers. We got Robbie V and Tambry's twin daughters Robin & Roxie Valentino, who are cheerleaders at Gravity Falls High School and the polar opposites of their parents, Clayton, a terse and aloof but easygoing cowboy-looking fellow, and Johnny, who is kind of the Thompson of the group except he has a bit more of a spine. Ezra fills the Robbie role of the group. Speaking of which.....
  • Tyrone and Ezra do not compete over Leia's feelings the same way Dipper and Robbie did over Wendy, I am too focused on wholesome found family dynamics to even consider a love triangle. Instead, I implied that Tyrone is Ezra's ultimate wingman.
  • In the era of the Fooly Falls 2 epilogue, Ford would eventually die of a heart attack at, you guessed it, 92 years old in 2045, just like Bill predicted. However, just like Stan, death isn't enough to keep Ford down and he lives on as a ghost watching over the other Pines.
  • Around that time, Abby would start taking home a few gold medals in high school gymnastics, while Stan Jr. would befriend a lonely & sullen boy named Masaki Aofuji, who claims he can see strange ghost-like creatures when no one else can. Junior believes him though since this is Gravity Falls we're talking about, and also relates to Masaki since he feels like he hasn't found what makes him special yet unlike his older siblings. However, things would soon change when Junior, Abby, and Masaki are taken by Harumi Araisho to the mysterious Tsuganei Tower to try and blow it up, prompting Tsukata Kanda to contact Dipper to stop their plans while a certain three-sided scourge of Gravity Falls plots to use Tsuganei Tower as a tool for revenge. (possible hints towards a FLCL Shoegaze adaptation starring Stan Jr. and Abby intensify)
  • Preston Northwest ultimately didn't care that Pacifica was marrying a girl, but he did take issue with the fact that she was marrying Mabel, whom Pacifica made life a living hell for, out of every girl in Gravity Falls. Pacifica didn't care however, since she had already cut most of her family out of her life aside from a few cousins she was neutral towards.
  • There is at least one autistic person among the next-gen characters, I just haven't really narrowed down who it could be. On one hand, Ezra gets incredibly flustered with Leia's advances on him and tries to hide it, but on the other hand, Gwen had trouble socializing or feeling anything for much of her life and even when she started feeling emotions again after getting rid of her old hat, she was still a lot more reserved than her brother and cousin. Or it's both of them. Yeah, it's both of them.
  • Speaking of Gwen, for the first few weeks after abandoning her hat and accepting her emotions, she was very physically affectionate with everyone. She hugged her family and friends so much, Tyrone started keeping track of how often Gwen gave hugs to feel the warmth she was robbed of for five years of her life. The highest he got was 618 before Gwen decided she gave enough hugs.
  • Much like how Mabel had Candy and Grenda as her people, Tyrone also has his own plucky duo of friends. They are Matthew, a boy genius who is never seen without a set of mechanical octopus arms sticking out of his backpack, and Joanie, a very masculine boy with a feminine voice.
  • During his adventures beyond the portal, Ford has made many powerful enemies and allies over the years. He engaged in a game of wits with Makima, had run-ins with the Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, and Tenth Doctors, met Metron and sat in the Mobius Chair, resisted making a deal with Alastor, and many more.
  • Tyrone and Leia are gym buddies. They also got Haruko to come with them a few times.
  • While Gwen has more self-confidence than her father did at her age, there are still times where she gets pretty awkward. She gets the most nervous around a boy her age named Damian that she has a crush on.
  • Juan and Jorge are banned from playing dating simulators that could potentially become sentient and super-possessive of the player. Soos knows exactly how that feels from personal experience, though he was happy that was what allowed him to meet Melody.
  • During Haruko and Jinyu's travels, they ran into Commander Amarao at least once. Naturally, Amarao tried to resist admitting he still held a torch for Haruko and was super jealous of Dipper for managing to patch things up with her.
  • And finally, Stan Jr's legal name is Stanley Junior Ramirez. The name also came from a line in Not What He Seems when Soos is guarding the vending machine.

Fooly Falls: A FLCL Christmas in Gravity Falls (originally published on December 20, 2023)

Author's Note: Guess who's BAAAAAACK! Yeah, it's not just me that's back, but the recent releases of FLCL Grunge and Shoegaze have begun reigniting my interest in Fooly Falls so much, that I'm doing a Christmas special before we move onto Rick and Haruko! As you might've heard on my Tumblr, this special was born out of watching Dragon Ball Z Abridged's Christmas Tree of Might and Plan to Eradicate Christmas specials, in like late September to early October. Come on, if people can get away with putting up Christmas decorations as soon as Halloween ends, then I can too. Anyways, I originally intended for this to be a funny throwaway line in a future Fooly Falls story, but it grew a life of its own and I just thought that with Steven Universe: Alternate Future finally done; I can focus more on other stories at last. Particularly those that I've left hanging for years on end. Anyways, let's get cracking!

--

In a picturesque winter cabin with halls decked for the Christmas season, an elderly gentleman was sitting by the fireplace's glow dressed in a smoking jacket and a Santa hat as he turned to notice the readers. "Oh, hello there. Wasn't expecting guests at this time." He gave a warm laugh as he got up from his chair and walked past the Christmas tree in his living room towards a bookcase against the wall. "Now, Christmas is a magical time of year that brings everybody together, from friends and family to even perfect strangers."

Scrolling through the bookcase, the man eventually pulled out a book with the letters "FLCL" on the cover. "As such, there are many tales about what a wonderful time of year this is, from the night that changed a miser's life forever to a man who has given everything for his friends being shown a world where he was never born, a jolly elf leaving the North Pole in search of his father, or a mall Santa who believes he's the real deal. But this story is quite different from all the others, I say."

Sitting in his chair, the man opened his book and began reading. "Twas the day before Christmas and all through Gravity Falls, the Pines family was stirring with excitement for Santa Claus. Young Gwen, Tyrone, and Arnold were walking through the forest searching for a tree that would make everyone feel joyous." Before the narrator could rhyme anymore, he heard something break down his door, followed by the skidding of tire wheels. "What in blazes?!"

"ALRIGHT, CHRISTMAS LUUUUUUNCHTIIIIIME!" a young woman wearing a sexy Santa dress riding a Vespa scooter yelled as she jumped into the air and beat the old man senseless with a Rickenbacker bass guitar. "Move aside, you old fart; I'm telling this story!"

"Who are you?! How did you find my house?!" the old man yelled before Haruko Haruhara coldly grabbed him by the wrist and launched him into the fireplace. "AAAAGGGGHHH, I'M ON FIRE, I'M ON FIRE!" he screamed as he scrambled around the room covered in fire, lighting the rest of the house ablaze in the process. "SOMEONE PUT ME OUT!"

"Just go outside; it's snowing out! Sheesh!" Haruko complained before sitting in the old man's chair and picking up his book while the man burst through the wall and ran into the snowy wilderness. "Now, where was I? Oh yeah!" she beamed before looking at the readers. "Strap in, nerds! I'm gonna tell you the story of how Jinyu and I helped the Pines family save Christmas!" Haruko opened the book and began to read, blissfully nonchalant to the house burning down around her. "We begin on Christmas Eve 2032 in Gravity Falls, Oregon…."

A Postmortem on the FLCL Sequels

So, with the end of FLCL Shoegaze comes the end of the FLCL series. Or at least, the end until Production I.G. decides to dig it back up and see what they can do with it now that they're no longer co-producing new seasons with Adult Swim. Whether or not they were good will be a debate that'll be as endless as who would win between Goku and Superman, but that's why I'm here to give my thoughts on all four of them, my history with the series, and do my best to analyze the themes encompassing this era of FLCL. So you all better pack your bags, ladies, gentlemen, germs, and every other gender in-between, because you're about to go on a trip.

As far as I can remember, I was relatively new to the FLCL fandom when Progressive first aired in 2018. I was introduced to the original series by my art therapist in 2016, I got the complete series DVD by Funimation for my birthday (along with the first two seasons of Rick and Morty on Blu-Ray), and my life was possibly changed forever. After watching the first episode, I told my art therapist how I thought it was a mix of Rick and Morty and Star vs the Forces of Evil in how they both centered on an average awkward boy (Naota, Morty, Marco) being taken on bizarre adventures by some lunatic from beyond the stars (Haruko, Rick, Star) and learning valuable lessons from having his life repeatedly put at risk.

At first, I didn't entirely pay attention to the messages because I was more distracted by the fun animation, giant robots, excellent dialogue (Kari Wahlgren and Barbara Goodson have such great chemistry together, by the way), and Haruko herself, who quickly became one of my top waifus and comfort characters. A few months later, one Tuesday evening in April 2017, I came up with the idea to have Haruko hang out with Dipper and Mabel Pines from Gravity Falls, wrote it down on the notes app of my phone, and so began my fanfic-writing career. I just thought that FLCL's off-the-wall humor would fit pretty well with the weirdness of Gravity Falls, and I also believed that Haruko and Grunkle Stan would make a great duo. And sure enough, the resulting story I called Fooly Falls was successful, and I've been writing crossovers ever since.

FLCLlge AU (you can tell I put a lot of effort into that title)

Julia Raharu, often referred to by her middle name Jinyu, is an accomplished lawyer working for the legal firm Ikari and Kiryuin, Attorneys at Law who owns a Bel-Air passed down to her from her Italian father, frequently goes out for coffee with her friend and boss's daughter Satsuki Kiryuin, is a card-carrying member of Silverman Gym, and lives in a modest apartment close to her old alma mater of Tsurumaki University.

Coincidentally, that's where Jinyu's rambunctious, mischievous, neurodivergent, and sassy younger sister Haruha Raharu, or her stage name Haruko Haruhara as she prefers to be called, is currently attending, and now Jinyu is forced to house her little sis after Haruko got kicked out of her dorm room by her roommate Nonon Jakuzure for being a nuisance. The last time the two saw each other was when Jinyu graduated high school and moved to Tsurumaki University to study law, so it'll take a while for the two to get used to living together as sisters again. But deep down, beneath her middling empathy and penchant for trouble, Haruko desires for someone to be proud of her, as the girls' father believed that her destructiveness is only wasting her potential.

Also present is Tasuku Nandaba, the oafish but kindhearted leader of the university baseball team that Haruko joins, Adam Smith, an old money upperclassman that Haruko develops a crush on (and basically this universe's equivalent of Atomsk), Tasuku's precocious younger brother Naoto who Haruko becomes a big sister to, and other characters from FLCL.

Other anime referenced include:

  • Kill la Kill: Ragyo Kiryuin runs Ikari and Kiryuin with Gendo Ikari, her oldest daughter Satsuki Kiryuin is groomed to eventually take over the firm alongside Gendo's son Shinji, Satsuki also happens to be friends with Jinyu as the two go out for coffee and yoga every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Nonon Jakuzure is head cheerleader and Haruko's former roommate, Ryuko is a member of a study group Jinyu makes Haruko join to keep her grades up. The two become friends and form a band called The Shooting Star Riders.
  • Neon Genesis Evangelion: Gendo Ikari runs Ikari and Kiryuin with Ragyo Kiryuin, his son Shinji is being set up to take over the firm alongside Satsuki, Asuka Langley Soryu is a member of Haruko's study group and later becomes one of the founding members of The Shooting Star Riders.
  • Gurren Lagann: Kamina Gurren is the passionate leader of the university's robotics club alongside his younger brother Simon Gurren and their friend Yoko Littner, Rossiu Adai works alongside Jinyu and Satsuki at Ikari and Kiryuin, Kittan is a member of Haruko's study group and a founding member of The Shooting Star Riders.
  • Little Witch Academia: Akko Kagari runs the DND club themed around her favorite book series Shiny Chariot du Nord, Diana Cavendish is a second generation student of Tsurumaki after her mother and friends with Nonon.
  • Brand New Animal: Michiru Kagemori is captain of the basketball team and Nazuna Hiwatashi is her personal cheerleader, Shirou Ogami serves as a history teacher at Tsurumaki, Barbara Rose is the dean of Tsurumaki.
  • How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift?: Jinyu and Satsuki are members of Silverman Gym, where they also take Haruko and Ryuko with them, Akemi Soryuin is a member of the student council and good friends with Milly Ashford.
  • One Piece: Brook is a fun-loving music teacher that Haruko grows a friendship with, Nico Robin is a campus therapist, Jinbe is a retired Olympic martial artist turned fitness doctor, Franky is a local mechanic who Haruko starts working for, and the other Straw Hat Pirates are basically the Hungry Days ads.
  • Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: Josuke Higashikata is a member of Haruko's study group, Jotaro Kujo is a biology professor specializing in marine life, Rohan Kishibe publishes Haruko's favorite manga Pink Dark Boy.
  • Sailor Moon: Usagi Tsukino is a member of Haruko's study group and quickly develops a friendship with Asuka of all girls, Ami Mizuno and Minako Aino are members of the student council, Makoto Kino once dated Kittan, Rei Hino is a member of the archery club.
  • Code Geass: The student council of Ashford Academy is the student council of Tsurumaki University here with a few additions from the other shows listed here, Kallen Kozuki is a member of the cheerleading team.
  • Keijo: The elite class of Setouchi Academy are now the girls' swim team and friendly rivals with the boys' team, aka the boys from Free.
  • Dragon Ball: All the Z Fighters have long since graduated from Tsurumaki Academy. Goku is now a martial arts teacher, Vegeta has taken over his father's company Saiyan Inc. and entered a partnership with Capsule Corp, Piccolo is a former violent tough guy turned babysitter, Krillin has settled down with his crush Lazuli to start a family and became a police officer, Yamcha is a moderately successful baseball player, Tien Shinhan and his little friend Chiaotzu travel the world together, and Yajirobe runs a local coffee shop called Bean Daddy's, Frederick Coleman (aka Frieza) runs Saiyan Inc's chief rival and former business partner Coleman Industries, having inherited the position from his father Kingsley Coleman (aka King Cold).
  • My Hero Academia: Bakugo was forced to join the study group because his fellow students were tired of his bullying and attitude problems, Izuku is an aspiring comic book artist who credits his favorite superhero All Might as his inspiration for drawing.
  • Baccano: Issac and Miria are the local theater kids. Come on, look at those two and tell me they don't radiate theater kid energy!
  • Soul Eater: Maka and Soul are members of Haruko's study group, Black Star is a total weeb who wanted to become a ninja after watching one anime too many (yes, I get the irony) and it's up to Tsubaki to keep him down to earth; so same dynamic as always, Death the Kid is an upperclassman whose father was a student of Tsurumaki before him and his brother Asura, who is currently off working for the military, Crona lives with their mother Medusa, who works as a campus nurse. However, they'd much rather prefer spending time with Maka and Soul due to Medusa's emotional abuse.

And potentially more that I can't list right now!

Well, FLCL Grunge was certainly something

Kind of wish it was more than three episodes to further justify it as a prequel to the original series, but I'm not Adult Swim or Production IG. But on that note, that inspired me to make a grand announcement regarding my old Fooly Falls fanfictions.

Coming soon, hopefully, is a prequel I've saved on my phone for years now, but now I feel like releasing it to the public. Ladies and gentlemen and every other gender in-between, I give you.....

RICK AND HARUKO!

In this prequel to Fooly Falls taking cues from FLCL Alternative and maybe a bit of Grunge too, witness the secret origins of Haruko Haruhara, or at least my spin on it, as she leaves behind her humdrum life on her dystopian home planet after being saved from the Cromulons by the Flesh Curtains.

Through Rick being his usual charming self and her growing obsession with Atomsk, watch as Haruko slowly develops into the irascible scooter-riding maniac who would one day be a thorn in the Pines family's side, all while the band is pursued by Medical Mechanica, led by the Lord Superior Officer and his arrogant and violent-tempered right-hand manchild Representative Director Repre S. Entative.

And along the way, the Flesh Curtains' antics would take them into dozens of new crossover opportunities, including but not limited to:

  • ReBoot (pre-series, during flashbacks in Daemon Rising)
  • The Owl House (pre-series, during Eda, Lilith, and Raine's teenage years)
  • Steven Universe (pre-series, pre-Rebellion and "death" of Pink Diamond)
  • Super Robot Monkey Team Hyperforce Go! (pre-series, takes place before the Alchemist becomes the Skeleton King)
  • One Piece (pre-series, post-execution of Gold Roger)
  • Star Wars (Clone Wars era)
  • Gargoyles (pre-series, takes place in 980)
  • Hazbin Hotel (pre-series)

With Steven Universe: Alternate Future's end on the horizon, this might be another story for me to obsess over in the years to come. Stay tuned.
