The worst fault in it, I think is a BIG FAULT: I gave no account (and had no feeling about or knowledge of) the emotional relations between Gatsby and Daisy from the time of their reunion to the catastrophe. However the lack is so astutely concealed by the retrospect of Gatsby’s past and by blankets of excellent prose that no one has noticed it - though everyone has felt the lack and called it by another name.

When I first saw Mia on the set I thought she was ravishing, just breathtaking. The New England summer sun was hitting her face under this chiffon lilac hat and she looked just like my father’s Daisy should look.

With Vacant Eyes

She went on falling, falling, falling,

She saw many wondrous things pass her eyes

Then out of the darkness his face was there,

Whispering sweet nothings.

She closed her eyes hoping not to see,

But her imagination got the better,

She looked with vacant eyes.

The dresses and suits that span past her,

Blurred in the semidarkness,

Laughter and emotion filled the air,

Surrounding her in the room.

She called out for help and reached out her hand,

Graceful and poised she was lifted like a dying fairy

From the flurry of the dance floor,

To the silence of the street,

Still the lights shone brightly,

Almost blinding under the deep blue sky,

She cried for help but the party continued,

Ignoring her pleas.

Downing another glass of the gin sling,

She regains her stance and glides

Like a swan to him,

She falls once more into the arms of drink.
