nothin i do ever works
I rambled about this in tags on another post but I can’t emphasize enough how only focusing on large-scale issues WILL lead to hopelessness & burnout. Activism must include small-scale, achievable works. If you don’t have something you can get your hands around and look at directly, despair will eat you alive.
I want to elaborate here for people who don’t think they’re capable of practical activism due to disability: what a LOT of volunteer groups need most is clerical and logistical support. Maybe you can’t get down to the river to pick up trash, but how about working the sign-up table? Or sending out email reminders or creating promotional graphics? How about making calls to the city to get funds for supplies?
Many volunteer groups rely on retired people to run their day-to-day functions, so as the economy worsens and retirement ages go up, charities are feeling the squeeze as their aging participants aren’t replaced. If you’re unable to work full-time due to disability but have the means to attend a zoom meeting once a month and take minutes, there’s an activist group that needs you. If you don’t have the financial means to donate to charities you care about, there’s a local advocacy group that needs help deciding how to allocate donation funds.
If you’re not sure how you or your disability can fit into a group, call and ask. My prison book group works from a basement that isn’t wheelchair accessible, so when I was unable to do stairs last year, I built them a database.
You can help and you are needed.
MUPPETS FROM SPACE (1999)
so tired of having to cook and trying to figure out wtf to eat, can I just have like. Specialized human dog food or something, like some vegetable and protein biscuits and a special drink so that I only have to think about maybe cooking something once a day instead.
The people yearn for Star Trek nutrient cubes
Watched Ernst Lubistch's I Don't Want to Be a Man yesterday for a class. 1910s transmasc yaoi goes fucking crazy.
Tomboyish girl hates acting feminine and family brings in a male doctor to "break her down" and teach her manners. Out of spite, she buys a suit and crossdresses as a dapper boy to sneak into a party. Immediately gets flirted with and chased by a literal crowd of girls. Runs into the doctor and decides to try and seduce his girlfriend for revenge. While she and the doctor are fighting (doctor thinks she's a boy), they realize his girlfriend's already gone and they get drunk. They start kissing and making out and fall in love (doctor still thinks she's a boy). They accidentally run into each other the morning after and flirtatiously promise not to talk about yesterday's "adventure." Later, the girl reveals she was the boy and teasingly tells the doctor that she'll "break him down." Instead of getting angry, the doctor smiles, knowing he got his ass handed to him, and they kiss again.
Do you guys think anyone fujoshi'd out in 1918.
Dad passed this lady her drink and she said "thank you sir... Well I guess I'm not allowed to say sir anymore... Since it's a pronoun!" and he literally just looked at her like this 😐
He's now very worriedly asking me if he "looks like a conservative".
DROVE HOURS FOR EDGEWORTH BOBA AND HE SAW MY NAILS 😳
Apple propaganda notwithstanding, the reason tower PCs are big isn’t because they’re outdated. The reason tower PCs are so bulky is because they’re designed to be user serviceable. The case has lots of open space so your big, meaty hands can easily access all of the components, and everything is secured with friction-fit tabs and standard machine screws to minimise the need for specialised tools. A properly laid out tower PC is fully serviceable with a single Phillips-head screwdriver and no greater manual skill than your average Lego playset – heck, for some of the more modern case layouts you don’t even need the screwdriver, unless you’re performing major surgery like a full motherboard replacement.
Like, think about who benefits from convincing you that a fully modular computing device that can be serviced and repaired with your bare hands and minimal technical skill is unfashionable.
local asian market reorganized its shelves. consequently when i went looking for my ve wong vegetarian flavor instant noodles i unexpectedly found myself in the Good Quality Cookware And Beautiful Dishes aisle, aka the aisle of temptation, face to face with a mug (my favorite dish) with a lid (my favorite thing for a mug to have) and a heron pattern (my second-favorite bird) at a very reasonable price (i’m on a budget and i literally do not have room for another mug on my mug shelf). it was like one of those fucked up tests they give monks in shaolin movies to see if they’ve really given up earthly desires. that mug is going to haunt the broken man that i am for a long time
i am not making it into the monastery
[ID: my hand holding a ceramic mug as described; most of the birds in the pattern are grey-feathered, but one is red-feathered /end ID]
A mug with a lid AND a tea filter AND cranes AND it was half off??! Buddha himself would have bought this mug. You did right.
Can confirm that these are cranes
Gorgeous mug <3
Centrist Joe Walsh gets a smackdown.
Citizens United was the Republican response to Obama raising small amounts of money from millions of people to finance his 2008 campaign.
Republicans knew they could never compete, so enter Citizens United.
Now we have oligarchs underwriting fascism.
The beautiful thing as you get older is that you realize so many “rules” are made up and you can just do whatever. Posters can go anywhere in the house not just my room. I can sit down while cooking a meal or taking a shower. I can make the same thing for breakfast lunch dinner for a week straight. I can roam around the house shirtless. I can wear a dress with jeans. The world is my oyster key word my and I can live as I please embracing little things such as this

the tone makes this sound like they have a recurring problem with people trying to join after a bad breakup and are just sick of this shit
'People who are getting away from a bad breakup' was a major source of recruits for the French Foreign Legion.
I have worked a lot of remote jobs and you have no idea how common it is for someone who just had or got out of a bad interpersonal relationship to decide that they need to find themselves out in the woods and work on their issues, so then they go and get a job that requires close contact with limited group of people and no one else for months on end. And then when they make their bad decisions, (the rebound boyfriend, the one night stand, the long drawn out cry sesh with a bottle of booze in the middle of the night on a work day) they're still stuck with the same 6 people on a mountaintop for another 7 weeks who are all forced into front row seats to bear witness to the ongoing character development until the guy who is nominally in charge has to make a rule about no fucking in the cook tent, because its the only structure big enough for us all to get out of the rain and while we're all glad that Sarah is taking charge of her own life after her boyfriend cheated on her by fucking literally the only eligible man for 200 miles in every direction, the rest of us would like a hot meal.
Can I join to watch the drama?
