Attributing human characteristics to animals and things: my bizarre collection of a thousand anthropomorphism images.

The lion-headed god is one of the most mysterious entities known in the cult of Mithras. He is the god of eternal time, has four wings, a snake runs along his naked body and carries the keys that give men access to the afterlife. This remarkable example comes from Sidon in Syria.

"Queen Cat" 1928
I found a reproduction of this piece in Warsaw at the Old Town - in a store specializing in frames. From what I've been told by my friend who called the store after I snapped the picture - the owner found a slip cast somewhere and bough it very cheaply. Made only a few of those and this one is kept as a sentimental piece, the slip cast apparently is damaged.
FIREMAN'S COAT
19TH CENTURY
JAPANESE
This thickly quilted coat was worn by firefighters in 19th-century Japan. It was soaked in water before it was put on to help protect the fireman. Like other firefighter coats of this period, the exterior has a brigade identification and the inside bears elaborate designs of rabbits pounding mochi (rice cake), alluding to the folklore of the rabbit in the moon.
