sooo much of vax and percy's relationship post-sunken tomb is centered around percy apologizing through action (building a raven queen temple in whitestone, offering vax his mask to hide behind when he needed to face the matron, that time he made vax a raven-skulled brooch filled with flowers so his armor would be less stinky,) while also constantly reiterating that percy does not trust himself, and that if anyone else is going to never fully trust him, he wants it to be vax. and vax rises to it every time because. well. (gestures at the all of it)

and their relationship is slowly repaired over time, they hang out together in whitestone while the others are working at the slayer's cake, vax begs for percy's soul to come back even when he's not contributing to the revival ritual itself, but there's an underlying tension beneath it that both characters lean into right until the bitter end. (and part of that is what makes 'goodnight vax.' 'goodnight percival. / 'goodnight brother' 'goodnight brother' hit so hard)

but there's just something extreeeeeeemely satisfying about the two of them just having a soft moment where percy's actually expressing concern for vax's wellbeing without 14 layers of fancy doublespeak, and for vax to appreciate the attempt, even if it's not something he can fully accept at the time.

it was just... i appreciated it.
