An AU where Shang Qinghua was the God of stories who got cast out for crafting an abomination. Something that would've grown to have the power to conquer the heavens. Most of the world forgot his name and doesn't worship him anymore.

Then there's the Shen Family. Who has a shrine to the Storyteller and had remained faithful to him for generations. They never forgot him. In turn they have been blessed with prosperity. Until along comes Shen Yuan.

He's sickly and frail so his family appoints him as the family shrine keeper. An easy job but it would make SY feel important. It also keeps him safe from meeting strangers and getting sick. Or attempting to become a cultivator only to end up with several broken bones during a sword fight.

Shen Yuan doesn't REALLY believe in the family God. Sure, their family has done well. His mother is a respected philanthropist. His father is a very rich merchant. Even er-ge had become a powerful cultivator. But Shen Yuan has taken care of the shrine for years. Their god had never even deemed him worthy enough to help him recover from his flu last winter faster. Surely if he were so powerful others would worship the Storyteller too.

The shrine never gets visitors. Until one morning, while going to clean the shrine Shen Yuan stumbles upon a stranger. Just sitting by the shrine. Sloppily writing on a scroll. His sleeves are splattered with ink and he pays no mind as Shen Yuan approaches.

That is, until Shen Yuan asks what he's doing here and why he's disturbing the shrine. Then the stranger looks up at him with wide eyes.

"You can see me?"
