Just me, my writing, and my thoughts. I've been a fangirl for most of my life. I live for fictional characters

Since Callum and Rayla had just returned from Xadia, Opeli encouraged Ezran to take some time off in Duren, with Aanya.

Ezran couldn’t help it, he didn’t even think twice. He missed her so much so here he was now. Sitting in a carriage on his way to Duren.

In her last letter, Aanya told him affairs had been a little complicated, so Ezran was thinking about how to help once he got there. Bait sometimes distracted him with his insatiable appetite.

After what seemed like months, the carriage finally stopped and he opened a curtain. The sunlight dazzled him a moment before his eyes could distinguish the great castle.

The corners of his lips were almost touching his eyes as he stepped out of the carriage and saw four people standing there to receive him.

“Your Majesty,” they said in unison, doing a quick bow.

“We are here to welcome you. Queen Aanya wanted to come but unfortunately, a last-minute event emerged,” explained a tall man with olive skin and blue hair.

Ezran nodded. Though he was a bit disappointed to wait even more to see her, he understood, and at least he was there.

He was back.

He. Was. Back.

Runaan was back, but his father was still gone.

King Harrow was still dead, while his assassin walked free around the Banter Lodge. The house he’d taken him and Callum to visit countless times, where they’d so many happy memories.

More than a week had already gone by since Ezran found out Runaan was back, and things were still tense between him and his friends, his family.

Rayla and Callum were acting with utter care towards him, thinking each word before speaking to him, if they spoke to him at all.

Rayla, mainly, had been avoiding him. He knew it wasn’t out of malice, but she didn’t want to cause any problems. Confrontation wasn’t her strength, and honestly, it wasn’t his either.

They needed time. Maybe once Runaan was out of the map, far away in the Silvergrove, he and Rayla could talk it out. But not now. He wasn’t strong enough.
