Friendly reminder: Fourteen and Ten are not the same. The Doctor is back in his old body which = similar personality, yes, but he’s lived over a thousand years since being Ten. He did not regress into his Tenth body and forget everything that happened.
He is not the Tenth Doctor. I feel like calling him that disregards everything he’s gone through. It’s not about how different Fourteen is from Ten (though I’ll bet money David will play Fourteen subtly different—more smoothed out and less manic than the character was at the end of the first run).
And yes, he deserves a number. The Eighth Doctor got a number for less screen time, but it’s not about that, either.
It’s about where the character of the Doctor is as a whole. The number helps signify that.
David Tennant talking about the 60th in the August 2023 DWM:
“The Doctor’s been 3 different people in the meantime so I’m not necessarily the same version of the Doctor I was before I’m not the 10th Doctor I’m the 14th.”
When I read that I literally thought
Because this is what I’ve been saying for months. He’s lived 3 lives since then. 10 and 14 are not the same. He’s labeled 14 because he directly regenerated from 13. He’ll play 14 similar to 10 but it will be different. Just like Tentoo! David is a superb actor and he’ll pull it off brilliantly. I can’t wait.
Omg. I know I’m late to the party but I just randomly found out that there is a picture of David filming the 60th and he is holding a sonic screwdriver and I’m so excited this picture exists I have to talk about it. I’m going to put it under the cut because of potential spoilers.
