I know there’s an existing post somewhere, but here’s the list of OBGYNs in the USA and other countries that will perform tubal ligation (aka female sterilization) without arguing with you
It's worth noting that a bilateral salpingectomy, which removes the fallopian tubes entirely, will not only sterilize you but greatly reduce your risk of developing ovarian cancer while being just as safe as tubal ligation. Some sources estimate that 80-90% of ovarian cancer begins in the fallopian tubes, so if you were planning to request a ligation already I'd strongly recommend asking if you can get them removed instead, even if you don't have any family history.
agree w/ the recommendation to remove them completely.
i rbed this post earlier to say that tubal ligation does NOT eliminate the chance of becoming pregnant. it can greatly reduce it but one percent of patients still get pregnant. it also greatly increases the risk of an ectopic pregnancy. if you do get a tubal ligation, you still need to be using other contraceptives (ideally an implant option like nexplanon or implanon). or as the person above said, consider removing them entirely.
That linked article actually states a pregnancy risk as high as 3-5% was found in a very recent study, with the highest risk in those who were sterilized young. There's only ever been 4 recorded cases of pregnancy after total bilateral salpingectomy though, so that's another reason to get them taken out
Thank you! I really appreciate the correction.
