Villain's eyes glimmered. "And that, lover, is why you are the perfect catch." Hero would be theirs sooner than they anticipated.

Hero scoffed. "Dear, it's the middle of the night. Do you think a coyote snuck into our room or some-"

"Sh!" Civilian hushed. "I saw something, alright? Over there." They gestured across the room, to a still corner.

Villain leaned beside a sliding glass door. “You never told me you were leaving,” they said as Hero walked out, a long plate in hand. 

The plate was tossed in the air, along with all the skewers used for kabobs. “Vil-Villain?”

“That’s my name. Don’t wear it out.”

“What are you- why are you here?”

Rolling their eyes, Villain pushed off the side of the house, bending down to pick the plate, which Hero so shockingly tossed, up. “Heard there was a cookout in town- figured I’d check it out. You feel like making a medium-rare steak for me? I’m not much of a burger or hotdog person.”

“You’re not supposed to be here,” Hero declared, hands shaking like a teacup chihuahua.

“Yeah?” Villain stuck the plate out, offering it to Hero. “You weren’t supposed to just...up and leave without a word. I thought we were closer than that.” As Hero clutched the plate, Villain bent down to pick up one of the skewers. “Guess I was wrong.”

Prompt #181

"I had a dream last night"- a nightmare, more like- "that...that I destroyed the world, but not on purpose. I tried to save it, but I only made everything worse." Why were they telling Villain this? They wouldn't care about Hero's stressed state of unconsciousness.

Villain's fingers remained relaxed at their sides. "Yes, well, self-sacrifice means nothing if you taunt your tormentor. It only makes me more eager to destroy who and what you love most."

'Only makes me more eager...' they'd said. Me.

"You gave me the dream?"

"I gave you the warning."

“You know, as much as you like to show me off to your little villainous buddies, I don’t feel persuaded enough that you don’t want them all to think you picked me off the streets. I mean, come on. I haven’t seen a hairbrush in days- I’m starting to get dreadlocks. Is that what you want? You want your trophy to have dreadlocks? I mean, I think they’re great on some people, but I’m not crazy about the idea of them on my own head, and I’m not sure that’s what you want either. Ow! It is not nice to throw objects at people!”

“Just shut up, and brush your hair.”

“You know what, I don’t even want to brush it anymore, not if you’re going to be rude about it...butthead.”

Prompt #179

"You gave them coffee?!"

"Well, yeah...is that a problem, boss?" Villain never said Henchman couldn't give Hero coffee. How were they supposed to know?

“They’re a prisoner. They aren’t supposed to receive such luxuries as coffee.”

Hero, perhaps stupidly, interceded. “If it helps any, it is straight black coffee.”

"Count down, love."

"No, I don't want- please."

"You already disobeyed me once. I don't think you want to do it again. Count. Down."

"T-twenty-five."

Crack!

A scream.

Crack!

"Slacking so soon, Whumpee? Well, that's rather disappointing. I hate when you make me lock you in here by yourself."

"No. No! Don't leave- leave me in here. Please. Please, I'll count. I'll- Whumper? Please don't go- don't."

Creeeak.

"Whumper!"

“Your blood smells a bit like petrichor.”

“Maybe not the best thing to say to someone who you’re cutting open,” Hero said through gritted teeth.

“Anything’s appropriate when I’m the one with the knife.”

“Take this.”

“What is it?” Hero asked, hand not moving to take what Villain held out. “A poison capsule?”

Villain rolled their eyes. “No, dumbass. It’s Tylenol. I’m tired of hearing you complain about your head hurting.”

“...I need water to swallow it.”

"You should be happy I'm about to kill you, Hero."

“I wouldn’t be happy by anything delivered by your hand.”

“And why not? Don’t you know there’s glory in being killed? It means someone thinks you’re worthy enough to die.”

“That’s not comforting.”

“You don’t think so? I’d rather be killed by someone fearful of me than to die of some petty disease and old age.”

“Are you saying you fear me?”

“I’m saying you’re worth exterminating, and you should pride yourself in that.”

“If you bleed on my floor,” Villain seethed, “I will use your very own body to sweep it up.”

Hero groaned as one of Villain’s lackeys ripped open another spot in their arm. “Would be”- they panted- “counterproductive.” Huff. “Don’t’cha think?”

“St-stop talking.”

Villain’s jaw actually dropped. “What did you just say to me?”

“I s-s-said to stop, to stop talking.”

This earned a cruel laugh, one low, and hardly genuine. It sounded irritated. “Do you want to take that back before it’s too late?”

Whumper comforts Whumpee, but it only makes things worse. They feel trapped and like they’re not breathing. They can’t get away, they can’t get away. Please get off of me. Get away. Get away!

Prompt #157

Villain held Hero’s arm in one hand and traced the bracelet on their wrist with the other. “I wonder how easily I could break you by taking such a simple thing...”

Lifting Hero’s limp arm, Villain kissed their knuckles.

Hero stirred, but didn’t wake- not even as the bracelet slid off their wrist and was replaced with another one. One with Villain’s name on it.

“You were always mine, Hero. Always mine.” With one last kiss, Villain laid Hero’s arm beside them and left the hero’s bedroom.

Whumpee is pissed about their injuries instead of being beaten down and discouraged about them. The pain only fuels their opposition towards Whumper.
