Lindsey Bergman - A 2001 Lookbook

First up in my lookbooks for Jewish American characters is someone from our May decade of the month, the 2000s. I've shared more of her story when I posted the meet outfit (linked below).

Lindsey's childhood aspiration is Creative Genius (from Growing Together) and she has the Dog Lover trait. As she grows up, I would give her the Friend of the Animals aspiration with the Creative and Good traits.

The hardest outfit to recreate ended up being the pajamas. In the book she's wearing a short sleeve shirt with matching shorts or pants, but I couldn't find matching purples with a star pattern.

Meet Lindsey Outfit - BGC

Lindsey Bergman is always looking for ways to help others. Whether it's by beautifying the city trash cans, trying to set her teachers up on a date, or advocating for animals, Lindsey gets involved. But most of her good intentions end up backfiring in one way or another. As the family prepares for her brother Ethan's Bar Mitzvah, Lindsey takes it a step too far by inviting an estranged relative without her parents' knowledge. On the day of the event as a family feud is revealed, Lindsey learns a lesson in limits and forgiveness.

Back during my follower's survey, one of the respondents said:

"You do historical stuff so feel NO pressure on this but if you made Lindsey Bergman's outfit I would die of joy"

While the Girl of the Year Line has never really been my thing, I figured that Lindsey was enough of a throwback and that her style is not quite historical, but not necessarily modern either.

  • The jacket comes in a selection from my Dear America palette.
  • The tights swatches correspond to the jacket. Tagged for all ages, since they don't use a mesh.
  • Shirt overlay has several swatches of the featured design, with two more from the book illustrations and the rest from Mothz patterns.
  • The jacket and shirt overlay are a merged package.
  • Skirt is in a combined Khaki Wacky (retired) and dirty denim palette.

DISCLAIMER: Eating random berries from the woods is unhealthy and not socially acceptable!

Lindsey and I went berry hunting! It's one of our last outings in the woods before finally leaving for the big city. We're more than ready, though; I hate bugs.

One of the things awaiting us in the future: A service dog! I'll be applying for and training for receiving an Autism Service Dog once we arrive in California. Lindsey loves dogs, so I'm sure she'll enjoy this!!! (I'll be naming my dog Harry, and he will most likely be a golden retriever. He's going to be helping me with my sensory issues and help me become more independent while I attend university/college!

Lindsey with my disability indicator lanyard!

In only three days, we take the big leap and fly to California, our new old home!

Going through Airport Security as an autistic person isn't easy, especially when you're nonverbal like me.

I have to use my iPad as my voice, and so I carry a little note that explains my disability to give to anyone who tries to talk to me. I also wear my lanyard that says "I'm autistic!" and hope that lessens any chance of mishaps happening while I try to peacefully travel.

I'll also be having Lindsey be my "small personal item" so she'll be going through the scanner!!! 🛫

Luckily the part I look forward to the most is landing and finally being home. I always can tell when we've landed in Oakland. The air becomes clearer, and my lungs can finally take a deep breath in.

From the moment we get there, is when the real journey begins!
