Please don’t lose your empathy. No matter how angry you are, don’t stop caring about everyone around you. I know it’s easy to fall into the idea of self-preservation, but don’t forget those who are less fortunate than you as well.
It is what it is but like. Can it be something else

If you don’t like to brush your teeth for whatever reason (depression, psychosis, sensory, pain, trauma, honest to god laziness) I feel you but please do try your hardest. Neglecting your teeth can become massively expensive in the long run, and you’ll be in pain as well. Some things you could try to make brushing easier:
- do it while you’re distracted/excited about doing something. It goes by so much faster. I dunno why this one works especially well for me.
- brush somewhere other than the bathroom. On a balcony, while you’re waiting for a pop tart, in front of the tv
- try doing it alongside a friend/partner
- have a short clip or video that you play every time you brush
- try a different flavor of toothpaste
- electric toothbrushes are less of a strain
- clean/tidy your bathroom and make it a more enjoyable place for hygiene
- set an alarm (I hate this one personally but it does work…)
- try a different bristle hardness
- give yourself a treat afterwards/hold off on something you want until you brush (this helped me when depressed)
- don’t wait until right before bed!
- don’t feel bad if you miss or forget. Just keep trying. And the usual “fuck anyone who mistreats you over your dental hygiene”
- check comments for more ideas
I have alot of aversion to typical teeth brushing so sometimes allow yourself to make up your own rules for comfort.
I hate how toothpaste feels on my mouth and hand / arm, so I brush my teeth in the shower. This helps with the dirty feeling of the toothpaste getting everywhere and easier to rinse out my mouth.
Now for me, I can't stand electric toothbrushs, they hurt my teeth and vibrate my inner ears. But they do make some special types for those with different sensory needs. I've been eyeing the ISSA collection for awhile but I haven't personally gotten to try these. They are on the more expensive side but I do notice sales every now and then.
I'd highly look up different types of toothbrushs and see whatever looks more appealing than the typical one. Don't feel like you have to buy an adult toothbrush either, I'll probably be getting one of the ISSA Mikro eventually to try it out.
Another item I found is a chewable toothbrush called Fuzzy Brush. I have a strong oral fixation and the reviews of this looks really promising. Likewise, I haven't gotten to try it do to shipping costs but eventually I'd really like to. This looks great for low energy days, something to have in the bedside table for when getting out of covers is a huge task.
Also another tip for low energy days. Have a [reusable] bottle of water and spit bowl by your bed with a toothbrush and toothpaste. When you feel up to getting out of bed or need to use the bathroom you can dump it out. It's not lazy if it accomplished the task you needed done.
If the minty taste of standard toothpaste is too strong, children's toothpaste has much milder and sweeter flavours. some of them don't have the same amount of fluoride as adult toothpastes, so it's worth it to check if you can, but using any toothpaste is better than none.
children's toothbrushes may also be more comfortable if you have a smaller mouth or a jaw condition like TMD

Don’t look at things you know will make you angry. Don’t read the comment sections. Don’t look at the blogs of people who add dumb comments to posts to confirm that they’re dumb all the time. Don’t read old conversations you had with people you don’t talk to anymore. Go look at pictures of kittens or something instead. Protect yourself from negativity in every way you can.

today, september 13th, 2024, the ballet world lost an extraordinary dancer and woman.
michaela mabinty deprince was born on january 6th, 1995, as mabinty bangura, in sierra-leone. she was orphaned, her parents passing to due to both direct and indirect causes of the civil war in her home country. she was demonized by her caretakers for her vitiligo, being called a “devil’s child”, and suffering from other forms of neglect and abuse. in 1999, deprince was adopted by an american couple along with another girl, and they were taken to new jersey, united states of america.
her hopes of becoming a ballerina had been planted when she found a ballerina on a magazine cover in her home country. she didn’t know of ballet at the time, but treasured the picture and dreamed of dancing. this dream blossomed into truth when she moved to the states, being put into ballet lessons soon after her arrival. deprince was a four-time participant in youth america grand prix, one of the largest ballet competitions in the united states. she was awarded a scholarship to study at the jaqueline kennedy onassis school of ballet, the associate school of american ballet theatre.
despite facing racial discrimination and other hardships in and out of the industry, deprince persisted in her dream of becoming a professional ballet dancer. in 2012, at the age of 16, she became the youngest member of dance theatre of harlem, and the next year, she joined the junior company of the dutch national ballet. she soon rose through the ranks, joining the main company and attaining the rank of soloist. she was the first dancer of african origin to ever join the company, and a shining advocate and role model for black women in ballet.
her other accomplishments include being an ambassador for war child holland, a dutch organization working to improve the wellbeing and resilience of children directly affected by war. she visited uganda and lebanon through the organization. she also appeared in beyoncé’s 2016 music video for ‘freedom’.
she will dance among all the stars in the sky. rest in peace beautiful michaela mabinty, you are already so missed. ♡
